*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

It's REALLY annoying. Just found out that not only is it including app-specific pictures and icons, it is also including thumbnails of full pictures. So I have a dozen thumbnail pictures in the 'All' section, each about 8kb each. This is ridiculous. I want to be able to put all my pictures/videos on the removable memory card AND see them all properly in my gallery without having to wade through unnecessary pictures. Can anyone with another S60v3 FP2 phone confirm that this is a FP2 related problem, not an N86/N97 one?

I am definitely still enjoying the N86. There are a few disappointments, I have to admit. SIP profiles being disabled on it was an unpleasant surprise. I also find that a lot of the pictures are ending up blurrier than on the N82. I am still unsure that the N86 can truly be called an upgrade to the N82 in terms of imaging, since in some situations it does noticeably worse.

However, I don't regret moving to it from the N82. It's faster, more stable, the screen is gorgeous, FP2 makes everything look nicer and load quicker, the build is solid, the camera takes better videos and (mostly) better pictures, the digital compass is handy... so yes, I'd say it's worth it. It's not perfect, but I can see myself sticking with it for a while.

Looks like a NAM variant of the N86 is coming your way, Mike... is your wallet prepared? ;)

Does the sky plunge into total darkness at exactly 6pm where you live? Otherwise, both of the photo comparison writeups I've read seem to indicate that the N86 camera handles very well in lower (evening) light, and can even take visible photos in near-total darkness, which is more than can be said for any other LED Flash cameraphone I've encountered. It's not perfect, but it's wrong to call it "useless".

If no xenon is a deal breaker for you, that's perfectly fine. I would wager that for many smartphone shoppers, though, its omission isn't going to be that big of a deal.

lolz.. N97 was a old news.. Didn't even touched it tonight..

I had played with it last month's meet up..

Check out my blog got some photos and videos about the N97 and my 1st impression..

What really blew me out on this meet was the E75.. I was fooled again by the pics online..

It actually stood out to a lot of people, it was the busiest phone tonight, people were checking it out, didn't even get a chance to take pictures cause it was so busy.

All I can say is don't let the picture fool you.. The phone was small and thin. Damn that thing was a beauty.. Plus its a Eseries so you bet yourself it has the best quality..

I can forgive the n97 not having a flash, but really, you are kidding yourself if you think not having xenon is a good thing for what is considered an imaging device

actually, i've read on gsmarena that that's the prototype, and the manaf. version will have a 1500 mah one.

I'm in love with the design of the phone. Take a look at the multiple photos GSMArena.com has... it's very thin, and looks amazing! just image a 3.7 INCH OLED display!!!

I can't set my own ringtones as well and I have the Rogers N86. I was able to set it on my N95-4 when it was still branded to Rogers. I had to cut the song to around 600KB. It also worked on the Rogers E71. I don't know why it doesn't work for the N86. I think it either has something to do with OVI or FP2. I'm going to get my unbranded soon. Just testing it out more to make sure everything is working ok before I do that.

Lol.. the point of the strawberry picture is, rather obviously, that you can take decent pictures in lower light conditions without flash - you almost never want to use a flash (of any kind) if you can avoid it. Second, even the N82's excellent xenon flash (I have the N82 and love the cam/flash combo) is not going to illuminate VERY far, so not having to use the flash at all (as illustrated by the strawberry pic) is great. Sure, they could have added a "at dusk" picture or two that were not close ups, but the general finding should still apply (as you could also see in the AAS pics form April).

The snail pic - he says its less than a meter, so its probably more like 2-3 feet. I made a comment there (perhaps you should too if you have not already) that he should also post pics with flash on from further away. Second, he is clearly saying that the Xenon is superior, so I am not quite sure what your complaint is.

got mine earlier today. Enjoying it a lot. lol like I said 2 times before, you guys looking to purchase get it from buy.com

452.99 shipped.

about to upload my unboxing. :D

Haha, I was definitely referring to the branding on the device..sugar cube is a good idea. I'd probably only really go for the Hero at this stage in the game-

Okay, finally got to do that battery test. It took 8 hours for the N86 to turn itself off from lack of battery. Sounds like nothing, but I was impressed. For most of those 8 hours I had it connected to my WLAN network sending/receiving tweets on Gravity, with Nokia Messaging pushing email via 3G. That also includes 1 hour of VOIP on Skype through Nimbuzz, 1.5 hours of video playback on CorePlayer while connected to bluetooth headphones, a smattering of videos (with full dual LED flash on) and pics, some web browsing, and some tinkering with the GPS/compass. Frankly, I'm impressed. There's no way my N82 would have lasted that long.
