*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

yeh pretty much, as your phone is on standby locked (as it is when unattended) just pick it up and hold down the centre button and it just pops up with the time in big, good if you prefer not to have your time showing permanently on standby.

has anyone tied the n86 with slingbox/slingmedia?
im thinking about upgrading my n95-8gb, the improvement in camera is not a big deal for me, but sling box is, anyone have any thoughts?

I have the Sony (not Sony Ericsson) DR-BT100CX and I have had no problems whatsoever. In fact once I turn the headset on it takes a few seconds before it connects and it's rock solid with good sound as well. Believe it or not given that this is Sony, it uses a generic micro usb for charging! It's also easy to control the music player and the phone capabilities from the headset.

To all people involved here I am sorry for what had transpired, I never wanted to cause any trouble at all I just wanted to find out about the phone that I have preordered, I just feel that I need to say I am sorry and that this will be my last post on this forum, I hope that you hold no ill will with me I just have a real short temper and when it is pushed it just lets go like road rage I guess!!!,So to all the innocent bystanders I hope you can forgive my poor judgement!!! Thank You all kindly and thanks to the people and friends who have been so kind to me, you know who you are. :2thumbs: :buddies:

@uncanny - I know the best cameraphone on planet has to be pixon 12. What did u mean by outdated camera features? cos face, smile, blink detection, touch focus, auto tracking focus, fast/slow motion videos is what I consider extra add-on fun features. They do not help much as far as image quality is concerned. Also can u confirm that omnia hd can do 720p videos smoothly at 24fps constant. I heard it does have trouble keeping it at 24 fps locked. How good or bad is pixon12' videos compard to omnia/ N86 ? Also how good or bad is those led flashes on samsung compared to N86 dual led flash while video recording?

I hope I am not asking too many questions? :)

I feel like my point is really not coming across.

First of all, I asked, aside from the camera, what is it that people like about the N86, so the "8 megapixel > 3 megapixel" point ignores the question I was actually asking.

Secondly, I wasn't saying the iPhone specifically is better than the N86--and in fact I also mentioned the Pre, not just the iPhone (and of course Android ought to be thrown in here as well, as others have mentioned). I was saying it seems like the general type of OS and interface found in the iPhone, the Pre, and with Android, really represent the future of cell phones, whereas the N86 is one of the last greatest iterations of something that seems more and more to me like the old technology (e.g. the current state of S60). Given that this is the case, why do people still like the N86? What specific functionality does it offer that somehow the iPhone, Pre, and G1 all collectively miss? I guess my question is more one about the general state of the technology. Why go for the past, when the future seems to lie elsewhere?

Also, more than one person has criticized the touch screen on the iPhone as not necessarily the input method that everyone prefers. Obviously people's preferences will vary. But when comparing specifically to the N86, the Pre and G1 have full QWERTY physical keyboards, so I don't see how the N86 wins that one. And even when comparing to the iPhone, aside from for T9 virtuosos, I really don't see how the simple numeric keypad on the N86 is so obviously better than the iPhones onscreen full QWERTY keyboard. It seems to me that the iPhone is lacking when compared to full QWERTY physical keyboards, but not really obviously lacking compared to a simple numerical keypad like on the N86.

Anyway, so again, aside from the camera on the N86 (which honestly is pretty much the main attraction for me), why do people like the N86, compared collectively to things like the iPhone, Pre, and Android phones? What does the N86 have (aside from the camera), which collectively these phones don't have? (And again, I'm not an iPhone, Pre, or G1 lover, defender, or apologist. I'm just trying to pose an honest question.)

Its excellent after ver 20 update. Camera hardware was top notch from day one. Image processing algorithms were not tuned up properly and now they are pretty much spot on though we can expect few improvements in those with future updates. Gsmarena also stated this. They never said its bad though.

Just wondering if anyone experienced this before.

My OVI map crashes when I turn on network based positioning for GPS.

I'm abit stumped over this problem. Anyway to fix this?

Or better, does it help with the positioning much? I'm not too sure how accurate the GPS is suppose to be, but right now, with AGPS & the integrated checked, the position right now is a couple houses off from my own.

Thanks

First off, why are you comparing the N86 to the iPhone, Pre or an Android device? The N86 is an 8mp Nseries smartphone. The iPhone, Pre and Android devices are considered PDA'S. If you want to compare the N86 to a device, compare it to the SE C905a or the Samsung i8510 INNOV8. If you want to compare the iPhone to other devices, pick devices that have a full touchscreen. I get so tired of people comparing the iPhone to the Bold, when the two are completely different devices. If you want to compare phones, compare phones that are designed in the same format, like a phone with a physical keypad vs. another one of the same, a full touchscreen phone vs. another full touchscreen phone, a qwerty keyboard phone vs. another qwerty keyboard phone, etc.

Further to gwapz's reply, *#7370# hard reset will delete any information in the phone's memory, including apps, contacts, e-mails, messages, etc. It will not affect any mass storage memory, either memory card or built-in.

The factory, or soft, reset, I believe will leave this information intact, but just reset the phone's settings.
