*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

Yeah, the n86 slider is pretty nice. But really got into playing vnes and vbag on my phone since the form factor is perfect. And that little play in the slider is annoying. The keypad is kinda stiff, but not too bad. I'm sure it will break in a bit over time. I liked the keypad on the n82 better, at least could type faster. But the n82 would feel like typing on pins after so long.

As far as the camera, can't tell since using opera mini, but will check when I get home, and maybe post some pics I took with the n86. What I learned is don't go from focus to picture in one motion, you will surely blur the pic. Focus and slowly take the picture while keeping it steady as possible.

My only complaint with this phone is the camera button could of been better. It's not terrible since it is possible to keep it steady, but could of been better.

But overall can't say enough how happy I am with this phone. Before I bought it thought it would just be a n82 in a different case. Definitely a nice upgrade to the n82 in just about every way.

The N900 runs Maemo. The only 3G you're going to get with the phone in the USA is from T-Mobile.

Those chat reps are as dumb as the support people on the phone. Shipped means it's been sent from them. Delivered is when it gets to your house. Why would the status say delivered when it gets shipped?

I just realized that I switched routers on my home pc without changing the settings for Nokia Internet Radio on my N82. I just updated everything and its working fine. I am able to search, and add stations manually without any problems. But, I havent updated from my original version of NIR. It still asks me every time I open the app if I want to upgrade.

all though thinking about it. I would love it if they got rid of the media slider, put the buttons on the face above the display and made the whole thing thinner. I remember on my original n95 you slide the media keys open to flip the display orientation and unlock the phone, but with accelerometer integration now and the lock switch, they can get rid of the physical slide.
Making the phone thinner! :buddies:

The N86, or ANY Nokia N-series NAM phone will not work on T-Mobile USA 3G .. TMO USA uses the 1700 band for 3G. If you want 3G speeds you'll have to buy a phone FROM TMO, not an unlocked generic phone.

The NAM versions will work however on ATT's 3G network.

Have you tried the hard reset? Some people have reported problems after doing a FW update which a hard reset usually resolved. How much free space is on the phone memory (C drive)? I would keep it free as possible and only put stuff on the mass memory or memory card.

I'm making the plunge this week. The iPhone's texting, email and web is second to none. But the lousy RF and weak battery on it is too much for me.

1. YES

2. YES

3. NO

There can be no perfect Dual Sliders... It so hard to complain since Nokia is the only Manufacturer I know that produces Dual Slider in Potrait..

Don't want to compare those Pantech phones that slides from side and top.

If the N86 was a single Slider.. I think its comparable to the INNOV8 Slider.

Supposedly it's just like the beta, just a little cleaner looking, and it's still a separate application from SMS-when you get the new message indicator it'll take you to the sms app and not conversations. That's what I've heard, don't know if there's anything else thats new.

Just to let you know there will be more information on the camera. There's a balance between doing everything in one go (and the time it takes to do this) and delivering regular content.

Next up is an intermediate part which features some basic camera comparisons (N86, N97, N82 and i8510). My colleague Steve will look at the camera and video performance in greater detail.

Part of the reason I left off some of the camera performance is that you actually need to use it for a while (and there's only so much you can get from photographing the cat) before coming to a conclusion. I can upload some additional photo samples to Flickr if that's of interest.

I'm willing to listen to feedback on anything particular you would like to see though.

Cheers

Rafe
