*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

Hey people, just got my N86 today, with no zenon in sight no other choice, so far pleased. The V11.043 seems fine to me, whats the bugs in it? I don't want to upgrade as I want to apply the hack so I think im keeping it as it is, no face detection for me then.

In general loving it, just waiting for my Invisible shield and 16GB micro SD to arrive. My N82 is scratched to deatch on the back from putting the phone down, the lens protector area on the N82 I mean as thats the most raised part on the back I imagine the same for the next 18Months with the N86.

By hacking ur phone , u can install any unsigned application in ur phone without signing it with ur phone's specific certificate. Also u can mod few things like camera mod where u can get bigger file sizes with less jpeg compression, no beep while call recording, restart phone by holding power key longer.. I have all these three mods working on my N86 now. I am waiting for someone to make a patch for that stupid red light which comes on while video recording. My N86 is working fine with this new hacking method by PNHT .. :buddies: Also there is possibility of cooked roms like samsung omnia hd..

LMAO! You're right about SR's tirade its on full swing again - but he does have a point with this award Nokia N86 had won. I don't see any photos - but then again they've never posted photos of ANY phone that has won the award in the past 6yrs.

Proof IS in the pudding - many that saying is older than dirt & nursery rhymes I swear!

I'm looking forward to this phone - but the N85-3NAM gets priority for me first as it'll be a fantastic road trip backup for the ruff environment. Hmm ... wonder if the N85's AMOLED can be shoehorned into the N86 nice & neat & easy?!?!

Samsung Mobile is the largest producer of AMOLED's btw.

well if the code is from your provider then ok... try it once the #1 code.. If that dont work don't try again because if you put multiple attempts in and it dont work your phone can get permanantly locked.

Ha,Ha  for all the critisizing we give nokia, we still stick by them hoping against hope they release something state of the art and yet we continue to be disappointed and continue to buy sloppy slider etc. devices. I fully understand where yur all comin' from with the comments. I don't disagree one iota. Yet yur all still here and getting ready to pony up yet more of yur hard earned cash.:befuddled
Once in a blue moon something good comes out ie;E90,E71,N95's and we dig the crap out of the innovation and usefulness. I for one am ready to go back to something proven and reliable like the e71. Small screen and all. I know what it does and I know I'll like it. Just gimme black!

I agree 95% of my pics were taken with my phone on vacation and events, because it has been with me and like i said many times before the best camera is the one you have with you.

Here is an article i wrote about it and some pics i took with my n95-4.
This day an age many people share pics thru internet and dont even print them, except for the photo enthusiast that have the dslr's.

Steve even admits he's a nokia fan. But i do read many criticisms from him in alot of reviews of nokia phones. But they have to balance objectivity and sustaining their site with funds:). If only we could live in perfect world! But he did actually bash the n97 on a few issues. And on his personal twitter that came out even more.

But i enjoy their site and reviews and podcasts, and even the forum occasionally.

Nokia will probably sell the essense of the N86 8MP repackaged as a Cx phone but with cheaper material and components.

non-touch T9 smartphones aren't out, they've just been moved downstream to the low and mid-tier markets

My understanding is that this is in fact not the case and mechanical shutters are much better. The reason many cell phone cameras get a lot of motion blur in their images and can't do anything about this is because they lack a mechanical shutter.

It does appear that the N82 and other older N series phones have mechanical shutters as well, which go up to 1/1000th of a second, which is pretty good.

Can't go back to the N95 simply for the bad battery life. Honestly though at this point the reasons to pick an N95 over this are limited, other than price and *possibly* voip? There's more but I don't feel like listing them.

This is my first post :clapping:

I pre-ordered the N86 on NokiaUSA for 558. It comes with a Nokia Bluetooth headset. I rechecked the site after a few days, and it was down to 499! I called and asked to cancel/reorder, and they were very helpful (neither of these prices includes tax, but it is free shipping)

There is currently a promotion for 10% off. The promo-code is nokiatheatre. Using this, you get 10% off the price, but lose the free bt headset. My total with tax was 476. I was warned by the sales associate that it may not stay at 500 for long and might go back up to 558!

Also, it appears that it will arrive at resellers on Aug 22, but when I spoke to an online chat rep, he said pre-orders will ship Aug 15.

From speaking to multi reps, I have gathered that the NAM does not come with the TV-out cable or an SD-card

Finally, the pre-order from NokiaUSA comes with an extended warranty (two years warranty total), but it is unclear whether regular ordered phones will have the extended warranty.

Hope this was useful to someone :D

I remember someone commenting on problems after updating to a newer version of Nokia Internet Radio. (I think it was on the N82 or N95) Because of that I havnt updated my N82. Everytime I open the application I get a message asking if I want to update to the new software, I select no.

I cant find which version of NIR I have it doesnt show in the app menu. Also, not sure if you can install an older version of NIR on the N86 to see if that would work.
