Do not get the N79 instead. I did and it's not as bad as the N85, built better but still light plastic feel - and the keypad is horrible. I got it and regret it, what a waste of money. Spend the extra money on the N86 as you won't regret it. I did, and it makes the N79 feel like a toy.
 
well from what i hear he gets more company phones than unlock. he did a ok review on the e75.. im starting to sounds like a noah groupie hahahaha... the best reviews i seen are from gsmarena i must say
 
First of all, I want nokia to succeed. S60 is still my favorite OS and I've had most Nokia models. However, It has been disappointing lately and a lot of people would share my feelings. 47% WORLD marketshare....and what was the percentage 2-3 years ago?
 
It means nothing. It means someone at Nokia is a good old boys with someone at whatever that EUIAA, EURGJ, or THX or whatever it is.

The real test is when someone actually posts shots that show it to be better than the Omnia or Omnia HD. So far the shots we've seen are not impressive.

Otherwise the phone is a nice update the N-series. The only dersirable N-series since the N95. Should be at least as good as the N95 camera (hopefully). Wonder if they toned down that aggressive noise reduction. The proof is always in the pudding. Where are these 'award winning" shots?


Also pretty sure it will settle at $400 in about 15-30 days after release.
 
This is true.....but I think it's the way screens are laid out that makes the big difference. For example, Nokia new calendar for the E-series is a better way to use screen real estate than previous versions....
 
I just updated to v20 and now I don't like the green square that pops up when I shoot, I liked the previous white square, why this green square does not stay in the middle? any way to get rid of it? I tried turning off face detection. I really like photos posted above by ASLEEPER, so I thought v20 is worth the upgrade, but have a look at following pic shot today at 5mp after update.

am I doing something wrong? Firmware v11 photos were shot at 3mp and Firmware v20 photo shot at 5mp.
 
touchscreens aren't new technology.....
the N86 still has more features than the iPhone and implements some better than the Pre and the iPhone....

it's all about what each handset does better and what you prefer...

prettier interfaces does not equal more powerful operating systems....
 
Well I just got mine today. Build quality is excellent, slider is solid, feels great in hand. Buttons are great. :buddies: Much improved over the N85. Phone feels snappy especially the camera, nokia messaging works well. Call quality for me is excellent. Pictures leave a bit to be desired, however I am used to this on early Nokia firmware. Shutter button is much improved over the horrible one on the N85. The flash is surprisingly good. The gallery and also photo viewer are still painfully slow to load the thumbnails, they stay blurry far to long, I don't understand this as my N95 had no problems here. FM transmitter is not as good as the N85 :( Cell and GPS reception are excellent. Overall hardware wise the phone is near perfect! :clapping: As I predicted this phone is the ultimate interpretation of the dual slider N series design. The firmware is surprisingly good for an early one. I think this phone will get a following with the N95 faithful and as a result will end up with an excellent firmware within the next year. I wish I never had to use the N85 for the short while that I did. If I had been going from the N95 to the N86 I would be overjoyed. As it is going from the N95 to N85 then to N86, I just feel as though Nokia cheated me on the N85.
I feel this is the true successor to the N95, I cant wait for the v30 or v31 firmware, when the software is perfect.

On a side note, does anyone know how to silence the shutter sound? and where is that cool clock I saw in so many pictures, would love to set that for the kickstand.
 
To be fair, Nokia is not alone in not caring about call quality. Only Motorola seems to have focused on this in a significant portion of their handsets. Which is odd, since Motorola did everything else so wrong, after the RAZR craze died.

I'm seriously considering giving the Droid a try, just because it has noise cancellation. Even though in all other respects I'm far more interested in the N900.
 
hi guys...just wondering if anyone try to use the Nokia DC-6 car charger w/ N86 ? Since it's not listed on the compatibility list on nokia.com (which is pretty mind boggling).

if it indeed not compatible, anyone can recommend a car charger that will work w/ N86 ?

I canceled my order last week, because they took away the promo code with my order costing me $40. They never asked me why I wanted to cancel. I used a debit card so the money never left my account. I don't know if they could take away the promo code with a credit card. Originally I was going to ask them if I could get my promo savings back, but since I was 30 minutes on hold I never bothered to ask and just outright decided to cancel it. Their customer support hold time was not worth my time. I had to talk to three people to finally cancel it. It took 40 minutes total. I preordered with Amazon, because I've dealt with them before. If the date gets moved beyond the 18th, I might reconsider.

I know the Ovi Suite is coming out with a Mac version soon. The Nokia Ovi Suite will eventually be replacing the Nokia PC Suite. iSync from Apply may work. I don't own a Mac so I really don't know. This is not the best thread to ask your question.

I got my replacement. So far so good. Camera works so far. Slider looks symmetrical. I guess when people take off the back cover, they move the slider in a direction it's not suppose to move causing problems later. My question to everyone who owns it is when you open the back cover, by the top right screw above the camera, does that area look different than the left side? Is it supposed to look like that? My other phone looked exactly the same and the IMEI number was different. I noticed my USB cable has a grey tip this time. Last time I thought it was all black.

I've seen so many ask how to turn off the shutter sound. For the main camera mode, go to options, settings, capture tone. There are four options. Tone 4 is the least annoying, and I like best. The first two tones sound like a camera. I guess to get rid of the sound you would have to delete the tones. Whether this would cause a bug I don't know.

For the cool clock, do you have pictures? Maybe you're talking about the date power mode under settings, general, personalization, themes, power saver.
