*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

No, profiles don't change it on the NAM version. It depends on your region as I understand.

That aside, I understand that the patch method works and already knew about that. I'm just interested if another NAM region, like LTA, has the ability to disable shutter sounds in it's firmware. That's my question. I appreciate the suggestions about the patch solution, but it doesn't answer my question.

Hmm. Yeah, I'm definitely not see the 15% deal. The best price I can get is still from Dell for about $460, with tax and free shipping.

I'm also inclined to wait a bit for the price to come down. This phone just became available and the price is definitely highest in those first few weeks when the earlier adopters have to have it.

I dont have v20 on my n86, so i cant tell u, but the battery on the n97 has been pretty good for me. I love the n86 also but its like a throwback and in the current modern times with , twitter, browsing gps ect everything just looks better on the n97 in my opinion of course. :buddies:

Had ver 11 on my N86 since july 4th to be exact. That's more than a month ..

What kind of bug? Fm transmitter worked well even with ver 10. I mostly use it in my car which has internal fm antenna , hence the combo works very well.

If ur talking abt its effective range then its the same as upto 6 feet or so.

Also I dont know why most reviewers dont consider it a useful feature. Its very handy and works very well within its effective range.

How much faith do you have in a company that can't even launch a camera-focused phone without a major fault in the camera?

Or one that took nearly a year to fix the E71's camera?

The n86 was a great phone. They probably just sold what they had, and that's it. The n86 is now a collectors item.

If this were 2 years back, it would be selling like hotcakes. But these days, people are going for touch screens. And the people that don't want touch screens are going for e71/e72 type devices. There really isn't a large enough market for non touch t9 smart phones.

There will always probably be very cheap slider dumb phones. But I think the n86 was the last of its kind.

I am so tempted getting this phone. I lost my E51 last Friday and I am using a 6620 and it is so slow especially using Gprs. So I decided to get a phone this week while I wait for the E52/E55 (either of them).

I can get the N85 for 280 after MIR at Amazon, the N79 for 250 after MIR at Newegg or the N5800 for 300 locally at Craigslist unopened box or 289
at Amazon after MIR.

I want to try the 5800 because of it's video capabilities but I have never been a big fan of touch screens, I had a couple of ipads, a mp3 player and I tried the IPhone.

I am not a big fan of sliders either (I had the E65). However I am not totally against it and I am interested in the N85's screen and when I get the E52/E55 they would be similar to the N79 in style so I would have 2 candy bar phones that's why I am hesitant when it comes to the N79. OTOH the N86 will come out pretty soon.

I also bought Garmin XT but I never installed it on my E51 because it has no gps built in and I already had TomTom working with my standalone gps receiver.

As I understand both N79 and N85 will work with Garmin while NAM 5800 will not work, not yet at least.

I have read about the build quality with regards to N85 but it seems it was the earlier batches. I haven't read anyone receiving the phone in the last months complaining about build quality. I must make up my mind no later than Thursday so I can have the phone for the weekend. It's very hard indeed :)

You wont see the cash back on the Dell webpage. The cash back will show up in your Bing account a day or two after the order. Do a google search of Bing, Dell and 15% and there is plenty of discussion on the topic. I have used Bing/Live Cashback for a few things. The good thing about Bing is the refunds seem to be in days instead of weeks.

Like I said I could get the N86 for $387 (so can anyone else that wants to mess with Bing)

only when you are changing sites or typing in a text box, if i'm changing sites I'm not looking at the site i'm on anyhow, and if i'm typing in a text box i'm looking at what i'm typing, so it's really a non issue to me.

The All About Symbian reviews tend to come out one part at a time over a time span of a couple weeks. They are extemely detailed and thorough. As I noted, the link I posted above is just their preview and not really the main review yet.

Really kind of disappointed. Not really that much of an improvement. If they were trying to position this phone as a premium imaging device they should have had xenon for sure.

I know it's all speculation, but for the first time they put some decent materials on it. Some metal, some glass. However, you're right we won't know until we see them and then wait a few weeks to see if someone posts a thread about parts falling off or not.

Aside from the glass face and the upgraded camera, what does the N86 have that is so different from the N96 or n85?

Don't take this the wrong way, I may buy this phone. But I am not overly excited about this phone.

Also remember that most people were excited prior to the release of the n96, n85, 5800 and the n97. It wasn't until the phones were out for awhile that people started turning away. The N96 had a lot of bugs, battery life was bad. The n85 had poor build quality. The 5800 lacks S60v5 software support and no kinetic scrolling. The N97's problems with the camera lens scratching, not to mention numerous software bugs, that may or may not get fixed over time.

The hype was there prior to these phones being released because they had something new to offer. It wasnt until consumers got them in their hands that the flaws were discovered and the phones lost some of their appeal.

The n86 may suffer the same fate. The one thing that sets this phone apart is the camera. But, there is some concern about the way the camera shutter button is recessed a little too far, making it difficult to fully press. Making for blurred pics.

A couple of years ago, I was excited for each new release that Nokia produced, the N95 was amazing, as was the N82, even the n73. Over time, Nokia has made me very skeptical.
