*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

QWERTY, resolution, screen size, an LED, a lens cover, either microSD or 24GB, solid build quality, most of the movie watching I do at lunch or break or what not since the tiny, low rez screens don't appeal at all.

Bout the only thing that I would gain, OTOH, is a physical numpad and IR.
 
That's a gimmick that's been around since WinMo phones. Touch focus is nothing new. Sucked on my XPERIA, and I'll expect it to suck on the 3G (not speaking of the camera, just of the touch focus "feature").

I heard the 3G is limited to 30-second recordings..
 
That sux, phone disconnected within 1 year of release, how come N85 still available? Seems like Nokia is not keen on releasing anymore non touch N series phones this year,even though they work a lot better then touch N series.I donno what's up with Nokia, they are just holding back everything and N8 release in August/September is stupid because by that time HTC Evo gsm will be out and other competitive smartphones too
 
I think there will always be a market for the numeric keypad type of phone. Some people only use their phones for talking and like to keep it simple. In the future, there will be less demand for that type of phone. Today?s younger generation do a lot of texting. Some never talk but only text like they do with instant messaging. I text when giving detailed information like an address, but it?s extremely that I ever do text. I?m in my early 20s so I really do wonder how conversations will be like with younger people when they get older. There are people around my age and older who already mostly text.

Exactly. Not only two but three, four, five, or dozens like some members here have done.
 
I've seen the N85's screen when outdoors and would say that the N86 is definitely a marked improvement over it. It's still nowhere near as brilliant outdoors as it is indoors, though.

The N86 does NOT have anti-fingerprint coating, unfortunately. The glass face is a fingerprint magnet!
 
Go back a few pages and see the picture of the oranges. The highlights are so blown out coupled with aggressive noise reduction that it looks like a cartoon.

In fact it was another poster who used the word "cartoon" - I thought it was the perfect word to describe what I saw.
 
Add battery life that doesn't suck and a better headphone jack to that list too, but I think the only ones that actually matter to the majority of people are the first 3 you listed. Obviously a better choice for a new user, but people who are coming from older S60 phones aren't getting too much that's new, considering in general operation virtually nothing has changed.



3.0 really made me dislike my 3G, I can't even believe how slow this thing is now it takes forever to open up messages or even make a phonecall and I want more than 8GB so as soon as I swap my current phone for a refurb out the door it goes. If I had the money I'd get an N86 and a zune HD, but there's other expenses I have to take care of right now.
 
I think the n86 does a good job with 90% of the pictures. My question then is what percentage of the n82's pictures are considered good. I understand one is an 8mp and one is 5mp. (even though 8mp is overkill)

In the end, n82 owners will need to decide if the n86 gives them enough upgrades in other features to warrant purchasing.

Its also important to remember that Nokia doesnt have any other smartphones with a xenon flash. (N82, 6??? Classic) So, when you look at the N86 compared to all the other phones Nokia has to offer, then it would be the best choice for camera buffs.

It may also be the best camera on a phone with 3G, or with Fp2 or whatever else may be important to you.

For me, I will stick with my n82 until Nokia releases another xenon phone. Its that important to me. I dont see a need to give up features to gain features, I have that now in my n82.

If Nokia doesnt release a new phone with xenon, then I will look at other phone manufacturers
 
I personally think they don't care about a lot of BIG things anymore:

RAM
Call Quality
Graphics Acceleration

The only phone they have right now that has all of these things is the N95.

(N900's call quality is crap as well)
 
Funnily enough the C905 is getting discontinued due to horrible quality in general. I guess companies skimp on the QC to save every last penny now.
 
Curious...

I can send files to my N86 via bluetooth from my Mac, but I can't send them from my N86 to my Mac. Says unable to connect. Any ideas?
