*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

You missed the point of my post; I never stated the SE products were in any way good (or even functional!), rather I was stating what has been done before.

If the N93 is the imaging flagship for Nokia, then the N80 is the media flagship :D

No one is disagreeing that the phone is better on paper - - I just think many people with an N85/N96 (I'm most certainly not one of them) may be curious if this phone warrants a purchase. Yes, it is a better phone, but only slightly so.

So I wasn't talking about the iPhone but any of the many items they sell.

I am not an Apple fan at all, but you got to respect how they do their biz.

I have the ultimate solution to Nokia's (and everyone else's) problem. Since Nokia has been calling its phones computers for the last year. I think they should start selling phones the same way computer manufacturers do. First you select a case, candybar, slider, flip, or qwerty. Next you fill it with the things you want Processor, Memory, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth, Wifi. Select your LCD screen, large or small, touchscreen. Select keypad, color, accessories and your done, they build your phone to your specs. Perhaps you could even select what OS you want installed, windows, symbian, android.
Wouldnt this be the perfect solution in a perfect world.
OK, everyone can beat me down now, on how this could never work. LOL

Thx THETRUTH for letting me know.

I'm thinking of switching to n97, does it lag compared to v20 N86?

Also, how is the battery life? I find that the n86 battery wasn't as long as my 5800. I don't know if the N97 will be better or worse

I finally decided to take the plunge and ordered the N86 from buy.com. Was $395-$30 instant coupon for registering for the buy.com credit card(which will be paid off in full when the bill arrives).

Hopefully, it'll be here by the end of the week.

Nokia USA told me that both the N85 and the N86 have been removed from the official Nokia inventory, when I asked what that meant they came right out and said discontinued from the Nokia line, I was thinking about getting one to replace my N97 mini but after I found out that they were gone I got my N1, so thank you Nokia for helping me move on to a better phone!!!! :2thumbs:

Saying that the N97 and the N86 have "the same camera" is pretty damn misleading, if not completely off-kilter.

Even if you ignore the megapixel difference, which may or may not contribute to better pictures, multiple comparison tests in the past few months have shown the N86 to take much better photos than the N97, especially in lower light (aka "day to day use")

Add in the fact that the N97's lens cover actually SCRATCHES the lens it's supposed to protect, and you can pretty much rule out the N97 if you want a phone with a halfway decent camera.

I think everyone is in agreement that the larger sensors and not more megapixels is the best solution for better pictures. I just dont think that phone manufacturers are willing to give up the physical space inside the phone to the camera feature. When you look at all the point and shoot digital cameras on the market, they are all similiar in size to a wireless phone. How can we expect them to cram all that into a phone, with keypad, wifi, gps, rf, fm, etc, etc. I think this is why you see the a megapixel race, it is something that phone manufacturers can increase, giving the impression that the camera is improving. Nokia is even naming this phone n86 8mp. They want everyone to know this phone has 8 megapixels. Even though the picures quality does not improve at the same level.

If they dont have room to include a xenon flash, how are they going to find room for a larger sensor, and at a time when consumers want smaller and thinner.

Yeah something's weird here. It's constantly connecting to my AT&T Internet. I go into Connection Mgr and delete the connection, but then it starts up again in a few seconds. No apps open or polling that I know of.
