*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

I surfed around some and found a lot of people complaining about upgrading the internet radio software and then having it fail. Seems like this problem has been around for a while and not addressed. Someone did start a thread on it for the N86 in the Nokia disucssions. But it only has two posts. Perhaps people should post their comments there, so Nokia knows the problem is effecting (apparently) everyone:

I'm still on v11...but, for you guys that got GPS locking problem w/ aGPS on...did you try to change the positioning server to: supl.google.com ?

I used Ovi Maps a couple of days ago after I did the change and it locks faster for sure.

Yeah, I agree that the dual-slider form factor is probably on the way out. In the broader category of "feature phones", though, I think the n86 still stands apart. That stands to change, though... and I hope it does, because they're definitely still room for improvement.

I'd love to see an n97-style touch-qwerty-slider like you describe, with the requisite face buttons and n86's camera (in fact, I was hoping that's what the n900 would be). I imagine we'll see something like that announced pretty soon, but whether it comes from Nokia or not remains to be seen.

Moe, I'm not trying to pick a fight with you. But the 5800 was Nokias first touch screen phone. The N97 followed with a unique form factor, touch screen, home screen customization. Both phones were like nothing that Nokia had released before.

The N86 really has very little ground breaking factors to draw huge interest. Yes, the camera/flash is unique. Other than that it is a revamped N95, n96, n86.

I loves that screen saver clock ... very modern!

Pixel density does NOT increase just cause screen size increases. We need higher resolution for that to be enjoyed. QVGA on a 2.6/2.8 screen would look harrible; yes HARRIBLE! VGA on 2.8 would be just about right.

For this to happen, Nokia has to strengthen ties with Samsung and cough up the dough! Samsung is the largest manufacturer of AMOLED screens in the world.

They better chop off a couple hundred off the price because now its an old phone and their will be newer phones coming out with better capabilities.

Here is the link from fatwallet discussing the 15% Cash back. LINK

Maybe you are not able to get 15%, or the offer has ended.

When I log into my Bing account and search dell, it shows 15% cash back for me. The fact that I am charged $30 tax still makes the deal $387. I could have bought the N86 this morning for that price, but I am still undecided.

Whats the best price that you have found????

A quick question of my own: any idea what playlist format the music player accepts? I tried both M3U and PLS and it doesn't seem to even detect either.

It's kind of a pain in the butt to make playlists on the device because you can't see folder structure, so it would be nice to be able to set stuff up in Winamp and just import the list.

From what I could pry out of the Nokia people and the runaround they give they said that there may not be a white NAM only the Black or what ever that color is, but from everything I have heard from them I would not put to much stock in what they say, but I am having fun calling everyday just to see if I can get some viable informatin from them!!! I really do not know if they really do not know any information or if they are really good at acting really stupid!!! :befuddled I just cannot believe that Nokia is so tight lipped that no person that works there knows what is going on with the company!!! It is not like the release of a cell phone requires National security and a no reveal clause in their contract, after all it is only a phone not WMD'S

Hi R-486,

My phones internal version is RM-484-1 (european I think)

Yes, my brightlight is the way you described. Wish someone comes up with a better version or software for flashlight.

AS for camera, i just tried sequence mode, i find it less laggy but the processing photo word still appears and takes a long time. When i'm in single mode, it takes a few seconds, the screen goes black with "processing image" for 8sec, then the camera mode goes back to normal viewfinder mode.

I'll try a reset. I know for soft reset, but how do you do hard reset? is there a different?

I read it. But the exposure time has to be raised to 67msec. A xenon can release its light for much shorter exposure times. There are definite trade-offs. This is also with 4 LEDs.

Yeah I really can't decide if I can type faster with t9 or qwerty. Honestly the main advantage of qwerty is for websites and weird words (which does come in handy). Browsing the web on the n97 is quite nice.

Lester now says "middle of September":

Thank you for choosing NokiaUSA. A sales representative will be with you shortly.

You are now chatting with Lester.

Lester: Hello, I am a Nokia sales representative. May I ask which phone are you looking into purchasing today?

You: I am wondering what the status is of the N86 - I see it is still listed as "pre-order" but I had been told it would be available in August. Do you have a ship date?

Lester: The preorders will be going out in the middle of September.

You: Yikes - any explanation of what is going on?

Lester: At this time, I don't have that information. That was the date that was given.

You: Disappointing - first the date was 8/22, then the date was before the end of August, now "middle of September". Thanks.

====

And the IDIOT I spoke to at Customer Service was even more worthless - she said "your order has been submitted". Me - "what does that mean?". Idiot "the order has been submitted and we are waiting for FEDEX to pick it up" Me: "So it is shipping out today, great!" Idiot "No, it has been submitted and we are waiting for the carrier to pick it up" This went on and on....
