*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

No I never seen an N85 after a few months of use. I was never interested in that phone, but I do want the N86. As long as the numbers doesn't completely come off, then it's all good...I hope. :)

i haven't (yet) got to use the e75 keyboard. I will say I can type much faster on a t9 than on the N97's QWERTY.

I'd definitely pick one up at 400. hopefully by the end of the year it is in that range.

I have the same problem w/ GPS. A quick google search yesterday showed that this is a problem w/ N86 at least on the v11, which I'm still on. Compared to my good 'ol N95, I have to say that the GPS is worse on this.

No doubt. After upgrading to v20 my GPS is totally useless which is freaking peeing me off as I use it daily. Or used to use it daily. Locking sometimes doesn't happen perioid and if it does, takes about 10 minutes. Sheesh!

Bad news in regards to v20 for many product codes:

"Big apologies for the delay, we are working on the issue. I won't go into the details but suffice to say that we had high confidence the first round of NSU updates would be available last week. Unfortunately we were unable to meet this in the end as you now know. I have my fingers crossed later this week for 1st round variant updates but am unable to guarantee it.

If yours is not in this 1st round we'll bring it as quickly as we can, but the process does take time. I appreciate this can be frustrating but is way more complicated than it sounds on the surface. If you have already tried FOTA and it says the update is not available the chances are that your variant code will not be available via NSU this week either. The exact schedule for other variants other than those released already via FOTA I am unable to comment further at this stage.

Please be assured we are doing everything we can to get the updates to you as quickly as possible.

How can it be discontinued? It's Nokia's flagship camera phone and one of the best camera phone in the market. N86 is outta stock at the moment and that's why it's tough to find, same thing is happening with HTC Desire, selling like hot cakes and outta stock and that's why every seller has jacked up the price of Desire. I hate when that happens.

Of course, that does mean the N86 could be improved with a firmware update. In the GSMArena review, they seem to think this is likely, since Nokia has done it with their devices in the past. So (hopefully) this will just be an example of the mistake of being an early adopter of a new device. Better to wait a bit for firmware bugs to be worked out, than to be a self-inflicted beta-tester.

I'm hoping by the time a NAM version comes out, it will have much improved firmware.

Just played with mine and did notice that the theme could affect how those options are presented--maybe try a different theme and see if it changes anything? Although mine was viewable without having to highlight the choices in both themes, I do recall having installed themes before that in the deeper menus the theme writer hadn't thought too much (or tested) how well white text was going to show up on a white background, lol. Hopefully its something simply like this....

As for a browswer, try Opera Mini 5.

I agree, but I think he was referring to the small C drive on the phone and not the main 8GB. The phone's C drive will fill up rather quickly if one isn't careful-

Yes that's exactly my experience, keypad tones work on the function keys, but not on the numeric keypad. I like the tones, because I like it to sound like I'm dialing a regular phone when I'm dialing a number and the tones make it clear that my key press was registered. The keys on the N86's numeric keypad have almost no travel and I find it a little difficult to tell if a key press has registered or not. With the tones set on the lowest level, I find them pretty inoccuous.

I guess this really is a bug in v20, although when I called Nokia they said they'd never heard of it. I ask again, anyone with v20 have keypad tones working?

If that's true and she has her slide handling option keyguard activation set to "ON if closing slide", then I would guess that's why her screen is going OFF. Changing slide handling option keyguard activation to "OFF if closing slide" may fix it. The keyguard activation which is ON by default locks the phone. I always had it set to OFF as it aggravated me.
