Using the phone for quite a while now, I dont think OLED is very good, I cant tell the difference in display quality, I did not complain because I just assumed it is how it is, but when I took my N82 with me the N82 is better since I can actually see it, I thought woah much brighter and clearer I can actually use google maps.

I guess Its kinda cool because there is not really a backlight it lights up individual pixels etc. Novelty wears off and I don't care now, Nokia thinks its the way forward since this is whats on the new phones now. How are you meant to use it outside effectively. Clearly no one else minds,do the advantages really outweigh the disadvantages?
 
i have been much more impressed with the quality of the videos vs stills. i cant wait for the firmware upgrade to come out for the nam devices. videos are very sharp when you are close to your subject, pretty much the opposite of what i remember my past n series being.
 
my N85 does that too, but only when the keypad is locked. The clock goes off after 40 min or an hour or so. If my phone stayed unlocked, the clock stays lit forever.

I will receive my N86 tomorrow; after reading this long-gated thread, I just hope I can make a call out.

On a serious note, I do not want to install the OVI suite, I have the updated Nokia PC Suite.

Will I have any disadvantages or issues, by not installing the OVI suite.

No, but with a good lens and a better sensor you could take a picture that looks like people sitting around a campfire, as opposed to looking like people with a floodlight from an airplane landing light blasting in their face.



I would turn the lights on if I was in a completely dark room.



Actually the best most professional DSLRs don't have flashes built in. Lower level cameras have increasingly had flashes built in because consumers demand them, even though they suck and are often unnecessary (due to new low light sensitivity sensors). They're just there because people don't know how to take pictures and manufacturers have to follow market trends, regardless of whether they make any sense.

Of course, professional photographers do use artificial lighting, as mentioned in another post. But comparing this sort of elaborate, carefully staged lighting to a built in flash in a cell phone is absurd, even comparing it to a professional flash is absurd (which have filters, can be positioned to bounce off ceilings, etc.). The two things have nothing to do with each other and the results can be seen in the photos of professional photographers vs. cell phone snap shots.

I really don't understand why anyone would resist the potential benefits of better lenses and low light sensitive sensors in cell phones. Again, the low light sensors are a real revolution with digital photography. It is not unrealistic to imagine these making their way into cell phones. This is the path forward. Not relying on flashes which are basically old fashioned technology that was always a bad solution to the problem of low light.

Well, they responded the description is accurate, and that says it is 3G 850/1900/2100.

Geeze, I had just talked myself into waiting for an N97 sale when this hit at near $500, now I am really tempted to get one. I just wonder if the 8MP camera is as good as promised. My wife is after my E63 - because it's red :lol:
 
If you have a NAM N86 and couldn't get the v21 firmware earlier, try checking now. I tried again this morning and was able to download it (OTA) and it seems to have installed just fine.
 
You don't think that any camera even a DSLR will struggle with a strong light as it is calculating exposure?

Come on they tell you not to take a picture facing the sun for a reason.
 
yeah, there nice pictures. Cant argue that. I spent a lot of time looking at the low light pix last week. The picture of the girl holding the coffee cup looks odd when you look at it full size. It almost looks as if the photoshoped her finger. Its too sharp or something.
 
How u people are getting blurred photos? Had my n86 for four months now and I can even take a perfectly focussed picture with one hand only. I know the camera key is not great but it does ease out with the time and now I got used to it. If ur comparing N85 cam with N86 then , I dont need to tell that N86 is just miles miles ahead .. :buddies:
 
Well first off I don't think people are talking about out of focus pictures. I think people are talking about the blur you get if you move the camera while taking a photo, particularly in low light conditions.
I am guessing you running firmware V20, that might play into it. I don't get pictures that are blurry under any conditions except those that would cause blur on most pocket cameras. These conditions being low light quick snap shots, like those at a bar. I have a feeling that the photographer might have something to do with the blur for some people. The constant call for xenon says that to me. While xenon is better when taking flash photography, a flash is not a fix for being a bad photographer. I would easily trade the sensitivity of the sensor on the N86 for xenon any day. A steady hand and decent composition is all it takes to come out with a great shot flash or not. My comparison to the N85 was in terms of hand motion blur. I seem to remember that my N95 in respect to the camera as a whole and also blur got a lot better with firmware updates. To that end I still cant wait for the N86 NAM to get V20 or V30, etc..... Now I still would not mind having a xenon flash on the N86, but that is not going to happen. I am a happy camper with the N86, it is easily the best camera phone on the market that I have seen. With most of my photos my friends would never guess it was a phone. :buddies:
