*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

I never said he was a hater, I said that if it's not Apple-related, it's just another piece of news. Same goes for Engadget live blogging the announcement of iPhone 3.0, what was the big deal? They just announced that they gave it features it should have had 2 years ago.

"ZOMG, Cut, Copy & Paste!!! Send the chopper! 2 cameras! 2 cameras!"

Had the phone for a while and heres what I likeand don't like:

Like:
-The Design - looks very good, nice uniform shape
- Keypad - is much nicer than the N82, more usable
- Email client nicer looking preview screen.
-Can use the LEDs as torch.
-Constant backlight for standby, can see time in the dark nicely.
-8GB internal + Micro SD expansion (+16GB hehe)

Dislike
- Standby no popup email notification on screen so unless you have only 1mailbox its a hassle to navigate to it, no screen lightup, only glow light.
The biggest problem I have!
- Camera button is harder to press than the N82, I did not realise until I was doing self comparison shots.
-No xenon- obviously I knew that before buying but have to mention it.
Due to sliding form factor they could not put in the xenon without making it very thick,
then dont make it sliding simples.
-OTA update clearly a mess I had GPS issues because of it.
-No T9 contact access like E71 included, I was naturally expecting this, unreasonable?
-Cannot turn off auto screen rotation and keep accelerometer functions (snooze alarm etc),
it simply does not work, too many times it changes when I do not want it to.
-Standby screen daylight visiblity not so good.
-Poorer antenna than N82, I get more bars on the N82, and in funny signal areas only N82 manages to pick up, where as nothing on the N86.
(I have put an Orange sim in the N82) e.g In my room full 3G 7BAR on N82 but only 2/3BAR 3G on N86.

Also not a complaint but I fail to see the use of the media keys for media I find the direction pad much easier.
I suppose its for when its on your pocket? how do people find it useful.
I guess this applies to all N95/96/86 users. Or maybe its just a habbit from the N82.

Yeah, I'm having trouble gauging the size of the N900 vs the N86 and other phones. Here's some comparison shots with the N97 that make the N900 look huge. Although the N900 is in the foreground, so that may well be distorting things.

Here's a comparison the the N86, N97, and N810. It's definitely a lot bigger than the N86 and probably not that pocketable. But you can see it's really not fair to say it's almost in the class of the N810, which dwarfs the N900.

But here's a couple comparison shots with the iPhone (scroll down), which make it seems relatively small, though kind of thick:

That said, those cc specs always seem all over the place to me. I don't really trust them.

Hell yeah the camera is improved. You can get much closer with macro, and shows you point of focus. Aside from other algorithm changes to make pictures better in general.

And then face detection.

When I had the N82, I thought the camera was decent enough not to buy a small digicam.

For me, having a good phone camera is good for those times when you wish you had a camera and didn't want to have the pictures look like crap. My old N82 took really nice pictures....too bad the design of the keypad and such were a let down for moi.

Yeah, sucks big time!! Never had it lock up on me, but it would often be out of sync with my personal Gmail account. Once a message dropped out of the inbox list it would never come back, even though it was still there in the "real" gmail account. And it was always only a few days old, so it wasn't just dropping off the list because it was more than 30 days old.

It's not the cheapest software available. But I'll be totally honest: I found it for "free" from the usual internet outlets but decided to pay for it regardless because they seem to be doing such a great job at supporting it. And that's GOT to be encouraged because now it's working great ;)

The flash would have hurt the picture if anything. It is a little blurry, but I'm still pleased with how it looks when it it's at a decent size. It would make for a good 4x6-

It would SEEM this way ... but you guys didn't notice that these N-Series devices are getting slow in processing vs the competition. Nokia is NOW laying the foundation for SMP to be fully utilized by Symbian-Foundation OS by end of year, or 1H_2010 for some SERIOUS cpu power.

Do you want serious power now that is just marginally impressive, or with unified Ovi Services, serious power (1Ghz 2/4-Applications Core ARMv7 Cortex A9 cpus from: Broadcomm, Qualcomm, STElectronics)?! Remember today's cpu announcments??!! ITs because of the long standing war of:
Nokia vs Qualcomm
Broadcomm vs Qualcomm
Nokia unable to use Broadcomm chips because of above.

Where have you guys been the past 3yrs? Just gaming away on the N95's? ;)

You're serious right?
Nokia has enough users - especially a large Brand-name recognition and following in India for when they go 3G soon, VERY soon. Even in the low end of the market which the following tend to ignore: HTC, iMate, Motorola, Apple, and other smartphone manufacturers. HTC only has the G1 and upcoming G2 vs Nokia's 5630, E55, E71 (now), 6K series Classic S60 phones for under $200Euro on Vodafone, O2, or Orange in various European countries. Most WM mid-tier and High-end phones are priced considerably more vs S60. Also only HTC comes close to the number of provider contracts and relationships for growth or sustainability in sales. Nokia also offers services: Telefonica, Rogers, Vodafone, TIM, and about 4 others where more than 1 service from them is offerd by the provider and profit sharing is involed. Ever stop to think how RIM is making cash even when they significantly dropped pricing of their BES Server in the past 12mths?? APN and Service!! Think beyond just the hardware and listen to the keynotes fully next time - trust me it helps you understand what a Silverback Gorilla is doing to prepare against young bucks in the industry to maintain and setup for more of his seeds to populate.

Good to know. Shutter - the physical - speed shouldn't really matter. We're not dealing with film but with a sensor which is powered by electricity; since the charge can be turned On/Off within the speed of light - effectively what you wish to control with a Shutter; then the speed of light & duration of light hitting the sensor at captured moment really should be controlled by the sensor getting power or not, n'est pas?
