*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

Reply to the camera not taking the pictures, above poster is correct, the camera button has two stages, first is to focus/facial recognition, pressing it down hard will take the picture.

On another note, I have another dilemma. I received a replacement phone brand new from Rogers after calling tech support about the lag and other problems on the original phone. However the replacement phone does not have the same build quality as the original one, the top slide has a huge gap and is wobbly!! What the hell should I do? stick with the original that looks nice and flush but have to deal with faulty functionality? Or stick with the wobbly slider phone?!?!

Just look at that sample shot. It's nice, but nothing great. It's pretty noisy when you view it at full resolution. That can't bode well for low light shots. But we'll see.

It's an improvement but very incremental in terms of what needs to happen.

The data sheet says 16GB because that's the current max size. You shouldn't be worried about 32GB working because they will.

I'm not entirely sure what the read/write speed of the phone is, I'm just going by my experiences/pretty much everyone else's on this board haha. Anyone know?

Because if they give us a date and then miss it, there will be much gnashing of teeth.

Whereas if they just give us a vague "soon" answer, it largely serves to grow interest.

I can only hope that the N86 is not Nokia's replacement for the N82. I hope there is another announcement in few months of a phone with a xenon.
For all the people that feel that xenon is not that big of a deal, I will try to give you some perspective.
What if all of Nokia's new phones came without 3G. You cant get it at all on any of the phones. I am sure people would be screaming about how stupid Nokia is. I could then make the simple statement that 3G is not necessary to use your phone, you can still surf, get gps info, and upload photos just fine over Edge. However you would feel that this is unacceptable, and would flock to other manufacturers that produce 3G phones.
The bottom line is that an LED equipped camera phone (such as the N86) may take great pictures 75% of the time. But why not equip it with a xenon that will take great pictures all of the time. It just makes the experience better, just like 3G.

I'm curious, aside from the camera, what is it that people like about the N86 over something like the iPhone or Palm Pre. The N86 to me seems like a great phone and I want one. But at the same time, it seems like old technology, at a time when smart phones are developing much more sophisticated interfaces and operating systems. I'm not an iPhone lover or anything. I don't have one. I find the Pre more interesting, really. But in any case it's just more and more striking to me how S60 seems like old technology these days. Again, I'll probably get an N86, but I can't help having the feeling that it's one of the last of an era.

thanks for the brightlight program. i've used this before on my 5800XM.

however, on the n86. you have to turn on, then off, then on the program twice for the LED to come on. AND then if you want to turn it off, you need to open the camera program and manually turn of the LED.

I'm still waiting for my replacement from Adorama. I'm thinking of sticking with v11 firmware. What are the differences between that and v20? Just face detection? I'd like to avoid the keypad tone and GPS issues I was having with v20.

It really makes no sense to me that you can't downgrade to whatever firmware you want. What does Nokia care? It would be nice to be possible to try a new firmware and if it's not working go back.

I just bought my SLR two months ago, so the points you made are quite correct, regarding natural light VS Flash.

Cellphone camera's are for the in-the-moment shots. SLR's/P&S are for taking pics when you intend to do so.
