*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

What kind of battery life are you N86 NAM owners getting? With the 1200mAh battery its only 150 mAh more than the N82. Wondering how the OLED and the FP2 helps with battery life? Especially compared to other phones that you own.

Yep, cooked ROMs are on the way. There's already a custom firmware for 5800xm based on V40, it just has minor adjustments but is a step in the right direction.
Im busy considering getting the N86 8MP as my upgrade, what holds me back is S60v3 and the now dated 240x320 res, coming from S60v5 on 5800xm, the screen in general will be a downgrade. :(

Did the blurriness some people noticed in their pictures improve and how much better are nighttime pictures with flash on moving objects? Did it get better at all?

if it gets locked try sending it to someone in the marketplace area of the forum they are the ones who can usually unlock the phone with a cable.. But i'm not even sure if the n86 can be done...

The difference is the N86 actually has a hole in the camera slider plastic right where the lens is, so only the area around it gets scratched...there's a picture somewhere in this thread.

A fairpoint. I do have Integrated, Assisted, and "Network-Based" checked, but I suspect I'm not actually getting a lock on the GPS satellites. The navigation app isn't a feature I use often because I already have a GPS unit in my car, but it would be nice if the function actually worked as advertised :p

2.8inch screen wouldn't matter much to me - that .2inch is hardly perceivable (unless the case design enhanced it; hidden borders). However if we finally got VGA resolution then I'd be stupified.

For now that N86 will suffice with faster cpu, better Ovi Contacts support & Nokia Messaging integrated - hoping FW upgrades add IM and social sharing with Music Player/Video Player suggestions in a way that BB Messenger works.

N86 gets rid of any creaks the N85 had and improved build quality to levels of E71 or better. I'm looking forward to it.

N97 is still jsut too steap for me to justify.

EDIT: This slide from Nokia Developer Conference from April '09 showed N85 shipping in July (but its called the N86).

In general I accept this point of view. But I do think that when the phone fails to work well as a phone and the manufacturer just ignores this element it's a bit ridiculous. I do think the "phone" function of a phone is kind of fundamental.

And in the case of a cell phone, obviously people are going to use it out and about in the world, not just at home where it's quiet. So it ought to perform decently. Nokia just blows in this respect. I really thought after three years they might have gotten somewhere.

People should check out this site:

It's the only place that I've found that consistently and seriously reviews the actual call quality of phones, particularly that bothers to review the outgoing call quality in noisy settings question. This reviewer over the years has clearly shown that, although Nokia phones have very good call quality in quiet settings, they have always been at the bottom of the barrel for noise canceling in noisy settings. Nokia is very consistently the worst.

I think in flagship N series phones Nokia should get its act together, when other people are doing better in plain everyday phones. Maybe not everyone cares about noise cancellation in noisy settings, but it's not going to hurt anyone to put this in. I mean, why on earth has Nokia put this only in the 6720 Classic and the E72, but not in a single N series phone?

I think there are no excuses for Nokia having done this so badly for so long.

I've want to encode in H.264. MP4 container for this encoder isn't working for me on the phone or MPC. It works on VLC. The AVI container for that encoder will work on MPC but not my phone because the phone doesn't support AVI. I did get the Xvid encoder to work on the phone with MP4 container.

I'm guessing the original name called N85 8mpx was probably because the only difference between the N85 and N86 is the 8mpx....everything else seems same or very similar.

I don't think Nokia will go out of business, but I do think they are beating a dead horse with rehashing of the N95. At least the N97 with the widgets front screen concept is something new for Nokia. Even the E-series seems to be getting newer forms and change in the UI...

Guys, why some of are soooooo interested in N900? The OS is very new and there aren't too many apps for it. What it can potentially do still remains its potential, and hasn't been realized yet while android is maturing at a very fast rate. Maemo will never catch up to android and today Droid kills N900 in every aspect except the camera(photos only).
