*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

From what I have read, if the N86 is hacked, then upgraded to V20, it will stay hacked, UNTIL the next hard reset. Then it will be hackproof.
Good luck, I was interested in one until they made it hackproof.

Here are a couple comparison shots with some Canon compacts. The first shot is the N86 8 MP, second is canon SD1200 10 MP, third is canon D10 12 MP.

Predictably the canons perform about the same, both are DIGIC 4 and have the same generation sensors though separated by 2 MP. The N86 is using Nokias crappy processing, which is now becoming very revealing. I have a feeling the preview Nokia gives you after you take the shot is before compression. It consistently showed more detail then the shot afterwards in the photo gallery(even on the tiny phone screen). Not to mention the N86 ends up with a picture less then 400K, the canons are 2.3 mb and 2.4 respectively. The canon cameras obviously ramped up to ISO 800, the N86 was stuck at ISO 400. The canons F-stop was at 2.8, the N86 got a bit larger at 2.4. All in all very impressive showing for the N86 though it is obviously suffering from bad post processing and compression, I would like to see what would happened if the same picture turned out at 1.3-1.4 mb. The Canons get to go to ISO 800 which predictably allowed for a brighter picture though the noise level steps up accordingly, the N86 suffers from compression heavy compression artifacts but is surprisingly noise free.

I just picked up the N86. I wanted to know if anyone else have this problem. My standby clock would stay on for an hour or more or could be less, then it goes off. Is this a bug?

I know my friend but you are always busy with the family and the little guy, your plate is full so to speak, but you are also many miles away, when I was speaking of that I meant people around here, no disrespect my friend, I guess I will have to wait for the N86 before we can talk again, and thanks to you and the little guy for the great help on the phone the other day. :2thumbs: :buddies: As you can read on here I did preorder the N86 and cannot wait to get it!! :clapping:

I sat on my n86 while it was charging and I heard a crack- my charger port is now broken. Does anyone know where I can buy n86 parts so that I can reorder it and replace it?

How strange! Mine doesn't work like that at all, it works like a normal camera button. That is, press it halfway to focus, then press it right down to take the picture.

I got mine yesterday from amazon, and so far lovin it!! Just one question for other owners out there. I have the N86 white theme on, and when I turn the brightness down, the whites seem to turn pinkish. Is that supposed to be normal?

I've been trying to, but there's a huge typhoon here at the moment (eighth this year already, so it's not like that's a big surprise) and the sun isn't exactly cooperating. Will post as soon as I do have some! :)

On a different topic, I just got off the phone from a 1-hour conversation on Skype via the N86's wifi, and it's only down one bar since this morning! I've had Nokia Messaging and Gravity on all day, with a smattering of music playing, video watching, and taking pics. My N82 would have been dead by now! Looks like that AMOLED screen DOES significantly increase the battery life in real life use.

For all intents and purposes, Rogers and AT&T are the same company, thus any Android handset subsidized by Rogers that has NAM 3G will work on AT&T 3G - and we have both the Dream and the Magic.

BST has unlocked ones.

I like your alias "Ghostofsparta", lol. I did see your review on the W995. I don't expect the camera to be great because it is a Walkman phone. I want it for the size, walkman features and even though the camera is not great, I'm sure it's probably their best walkman/camera phone to date. I'm waiting for the NAM version to come out. Thanks for the offer, but I'm not into Samsungs. LOL. I love the N95-4, but I hate how slow it is to transfer songs. I've always prefered phones with an external memory slot. Also opening the music player is slow. When I had the N95-3 it wasn't this slow.
But otherwise the N95-4 does rock and I still think the N95's are the best Nseries phone to date. ;) What's BinPDA? :)
