*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

I think Nokia is upset about the unauthorized leak of Liam (E71) from Vodaphone. Perhaps they decided to deley the release to make substancial revision. E61i is a pretty solid model and there is no hurry to upgrade it immediately. Let us see...

All good points. Since exchange has ActiveSync built in, by default WM devices, iphones and S60 are supported via M4E. It may be hard to convince a small company to implement a managed solution. I like S60, but would be hard pressed to ditch our BES server. It is very stable and just works, and it is the biggest reason for me to move to a Bold. When I got my first BB, and I was searching for the best way to integrate to Exchange (before BES I tried BIS, and the desktop director and both were a step BACKWARDS from the IMAP solution I had on my Treo), I was very unimpressed with my BB. The beauty of the BB didnt show in its true form until I actually implemented the BES. Then it all made sense. Of course, I paid $1100 for a 10 user license before there was a BES express option, which was released about 6 months after I plunked down the cash.

somebody PLEASE tell me they think switching the back battery covers with each other would make both phones look immensely better!

...if i get the grey e71 and it doesnt grown on me real quick, im goin out and buyin an OEM white-version battery cover to throw on there!

pretty sure I'm going to be selling this e71 and wait for the nam version to come out in hopes of better rf quality. I've never had to resend so many messages on any of my past nokia phones until this one. I don't understand it.

Speaking of the E90... anyone think we'll see a refresh of the E90 (E91?) to include new styling (like the E71 compared to the E61i), and AT&T 3G support?

Lately, I'm sort of thinking that my ideal Nokia phone would be:

1) sort of like the N810 in form factor (including the larger screen size - 5"-ish with 800x480 resolution), only the shoulders wouldn't slide (sort of like a sidekick slide) -- and the dpad, soft buttons, and call/hang-up buttons would all be on the shoulders. And there'd be a decent picture camera on the back.

2) tilt screen, so you can lay the device on a table, and angle the screen up for use with an external keyboard

3) Bluetooth HID support for using an external keyboard

4) have 4 WCDMA variants (Euro/Asian, Oz, AT&T, T-Mobile), and be a GSM quad phone. (though, instead of 4 WCDMA variants, I'd actually prefer quad WCDMA capability -- all four variants in one unit).

5) UMA call capability (and, so, Wifi as well)

6) RSS reader client (similar to the one on the N810)

7) I sort of like the Firefox based N810 web browser more than the one on the E61i... so maybe that.

8) Built in OpenSSH client (open ssh specifically, not putty) (built in VNC client/viewer, might be nice too)

9) directy sync calendar (via wifi or EDGE/HSPA) to google calendar

10) directly sync contacts (as above) to google mail contacts

11) All of the other software and features I'm growing to love on the E61i, but updated to be more in-line with the E71's feature set.

But, an E90 type form factor, instead of the N810 form factor, might be ok. So, I might be interested in an updated E90...

Exactly. I was thinking of picking up a Diamond, but it was $780 flat.

I refuse to pay that much anymore. Did that for the E90 once (WAY over$780), never gona pay that much again. E71 is not going to be reasonable when it's out, so BB for now, iPhone as a backup, and then E71 when it's dropped.

Now Nokia, release the damn phone already!

Im too ugly to be a triplet!! (actually in real life i AM a twin).
No WM for me. I have dabbled there and it was ugly. My biggest beefs are:
1. terrible one handed ops.... too many clicks to do simple tasks
2. Most devices seem to have lousy battery life
3. Too many lock ups and reboots

The things I like:
1. Lots of device choices
2. Lots of software
3. Pretty open architecture

Ill stick to S60 and BB devices. I would like to see a linux mobile OS come out... that might be fun.... can you say android.

I dont like running Windows on my laptop, but it just makes life easy in the corporate world. I have never used a Mac and I'd prefer for my laptop to be a tool that works (WinXP really is pretty good), and not have to dabble and tweek Linux.

^try resetting the noisy e71 to default camera settings...i had to do this after updating to v300 to see camera improvements[/QUOTE

I tried to do that.... nothing changed, seems the old E71 is a lot grainier !

I'm also a Canadian citizen! Living in Toronto. Let's hope, nah pray that Rogers - if they get either/both it will fall into the same category as the Nokia N95-4 (the Black 8GB) they've just released 1mth ago ... as a VISION phone! Then my current plan will suit this perfectly.

Marketing & Legal team can be challenged if they go against this. Their going to have a tough time explaining the reason for the change as well.

Quick question:

I just picked up my 2nd E71, and the entire keypad seems to slide around a bit inside the casing. Also, the keyboard back lighting is slightly uneven, with the top 2 key rows brighter than the bottom two. My 1st E71 didn't have these problems. Should I get a replacement, or is this just a common issue with the newer models?
