*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

I was not able to put a SIM in it since I was told "not to do so". But I had my 8820 right beside me to compare it, and the Bold is a tad bit wider, the screen is what's the winner here, it was just so crisp and bright and flush, and beautiful. The keys are flatter, but the layout is similar to 88xx not 83xx. I hated the 83xx keys and loved 88xx keys and as you can tell, instantly fell in love with the Bold's keys. Definitely heavier than both (for obvious reasons). I can see almost everyone from the current userbase switching over to the Bold once it's out (Which I dont know, but I'm told is end of June for Rogers/Early july).

Also, this was a pre-production unit (no branding, nothing) but it felt solid, and the metal sides were definitely plastic, but it's solidly built. Also, because the screen is entire flush side to side, I dont forsee any "dust got under my screen" problems with this baby.

Dont ask me for pics, as I was not able to take them.

Thanks...

I just looked at the pre-order price, ouch.

I bet if buy.com DOES honor the pre-order price, they don't get stock for 1+ months (by then, other retailers prices should be in the low-mid 400's).

Looks more like what the E61i should have been. Other than the Communicator series, Nokia doesn't have any experience with QWERTY phones, especially when it comes to the Treo/BB-style of form-factor. The E61i/E62 were an OK first effort but WAYY too wide. That appears to have been fixed: while it's not as narrow as a Blackjack or BJ2 it's definitely in the right direction.

I just wonder how many S60/J2ME games will work properly with the landscape screen? I MUST at least have Arkanoid and HoldEm Poker of some sort. :D Since Nokia doesn't have a lot of landscape phones (this and the E61i/E62 are it I think) there might not be as many apps around. Except maybe the NGage stuff, and so far those offerings are pretty slim.

Hey guys,

I'm evaluating between the E71-2 NAM or the Blackberry Bold 9000 (soon to be released).

I'm a newcomer to smartphones and to full QWERTY keyboards. In fact, I've never typed on one ever.

I decided to go this route rather than the iPhone because my fingers are a bit too stubby to work on the touch screen keyboard.

I've read reviews that the keyboard on the E71 is smaller, although it still works. Would you guys post your thoughts on the keyboard, its ease of (or lack of) use and what it felt like using it the first time...compared to other smartphones?

Thank you so much for your help!

You know whats easier than that? Sliding the phone into a holster and putting it on sleep mode in Blackberries

I think the Nokia's lock fine. Autolock can also be used.

@ Rambo: That conversations thing is exactly what Im looking for. However, under that link there wasnt anythign specific for the phone, how do I know which one to download?

@ tkao2025 & Blacksrt4guy: 3g was running all day as well as bluetooth, no wifi. Very strong 3g area. When I took 3g off to save battery life my signal went from full to 1 bar on EDGE. Again, comparing this phone to the curve in terms of having the same functions running all day I expect the same if not better performance. Ive always sworn by nokia battery life and reception, I know I cant be wrong.

That being said, Ill try the phone again tomorrow and see how long it lasts.

Anyone else finding the lens to be extremely hot when touched? I put the back of the phone to my cheek and it feels like it was in the oven.

Am I a big complainer or do I have high expectations? Apparently iSync wont work with entourage on a mac. Thats all I use.

Seems like there is no luck here, why not try the main S60 forum? Or try the WM PPC forum, title something like "Thinking about leaving WM and join S60, what do you all think?", that might attract some attention :) . I am a casual user of email functions for both MFE on E61i and WM 6 on the Tilt, but not an expert, sorry.
