*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

Plenty of "commies" here at home too, I think we are catching up in "commies". What has become of this country? (tongue firmly planted in cheek).

n78 screen goes blank too. just install large time, its free and i like it better than the regular s60 screensaver because the clock and message indicators are much larger. it worked well with my n78

got a couple of questions hofoers:

1. What are the chances that buy.com cancels their E71 pre-orders?

2. What are the chances buy.com raises their E71 prices once they receive and ship all pre-orders?

3. Has anyone found it any cheaper anywhere else yet?

4. Can I use the MEdiaMax unlimited plan($15) on AT&T since the phone is unlocked and unbranded, even though it's a qwerty? I read somewhere on hofo earlier that they won't charge you for the smartphone plan because its unlocked and unbranded. Can anyone confirm?

TIA

1. I DON'T want this! Less Real-Estate on the screen for application shortcuts, or other sublistings! No thanks the clock is fine, just switch to digital if your eyes are straining - then again you should go for the E90 if your eyes strain to read the screen less than 2ft away if glasses don't help. Remember, app shortcuts are right beside the clock.

2. I choose Silent profile (other than Normal) and its displayed, without fail. Not sure why your having this issue. Maybe you're using a third party app to manage auto profile switching and thus causing this issue?

3. I'm not understanding what you're saying. My E71-2 does show the numbers/letters I type on the home screen and the contacts listed that are associated with what I type.

No thanks. If Nokia or the Symbian Foundation start incorporating TOO much functionality into the core OS that was engineered/concepted by other coders/company's (3rd party) that made their software for sale then it kills the aftermarket - what we ALL love about S60/Symbian. Kill them off and our thirst for customizations go with it. However, purchasing the company and their crew or a HUGE lump sump for the individual coder, even offering them freelance project jobs where their work is incorporated into the upcoming Symbian Foundation release, then its worth it.

Yet everyone will NOT agree on a layout (GUI) that is presented with just 1 weather application. HTC on Touch 3D did an excellent job, but I suspect it slows the OS a lil', and not everyone likes it in the WM camp. Remember S60 is about choice.

Totally agree! Now your thinking about end user CHOICE ;) .

Personally I'd rather have the ability to SAVE a new page as a bookmark into Folders I've already made (I save in categories like: Finance, S60 Forums/Blogs, Sports, E71 Info, etc), or am about to make - like on the BB platform.

You mean only the track that is playing is displayed? How would you propose to control it from the Active STandby Screen? Maybe highlight and right click to get Pause/Stop, FWD, RWD? Hmm that may work. I'd like to have the Up/Down volume keys to be able to Next/Previous Track like on the SE Walkman phones when on the homescreen if not controlled by any other app function.

Agree! Choice again is trumped here. But I think Wikipedia is available, haven't tried yet.

A two line email is displayed in a downloaded S60 Headers function - you're reaching on that one, hehe. But I agree that its fustrating. Also I WANT to force the client to use POP3 not IMAP as online email servers always are found with IMAP settings first before POP and its MORE infruriating to CHANGE it to POP after IMAP is setup by the auto client wizard. More also if I've already downloaded the email and I cannot retrieve it in Outlook on my home PC.

* New question: WHERE do I store my Ringtones, and Music (AAC/MP3s) so that I'm NOT seeing them BOTH listed in the Music player in ALL MUSIC. Ringtones are not music to me. Also Everytime I launch the Music Player I get a "Repairing currupted Music Database" or something similar and I've gotta wait about 1min for it to auto repair. I saved it in the Sounds>Digital folder on my 8GB MicroSD card.

If everything is working that you don't have to add any specific settings just go ahead and have fun with your phone.

If you are not using 3g then you go ahead and disable it.
Its in Menu --Tools---Settings---Phone---Network

so i got my e71-1 today from rose. I love the phone!! The keyboard is not bad at all, i got used to typing on it, and the phone looks very slick and stylish. The speed of the phone is very quick. One thing i did though was that i accidentally formatted my memory card hehe. By formatting my memory card i lost some programs that came with the phone such as that one racing game, card scanner, solitaire, and a few other programs. I'm not sure if there is a link to a place where i can re-download these, so if anyone know please let me know. But overall this phone is great!!! I'm going to try to get garminxt and see how it is on this phone. Oh yeah one more thing, the battery life is unbeleivable! I've been playing around with this phone the whole day and i still have half of the battery left!!!

Well after struggling with the signal strength of my e71, I took it back and exchanged it for a new one. I can say that this phone is alot better than the one I returned.

So I guess most people have given up eh??? Everyday I wake up hoping that they would release this phone already.....although I still wish they are coming out with something soon...my attention has slowly shifted to the new Blackberry and HTC phones that are coming out.

Seems like there's more info available for these phones than the E71....I'm sad that it's taking Nokia this long to release this phone....wonder what the problems would be? Seems to me that phone is pretty much done...and I'm sure with FP1, there's no big software problems

This is interesting, is it just Garmin Mobile XT which has problems with the card? Or does music functionality and other phone functions (Maps, etc) work with the 16gb card?

Thanks
