*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

Wirelessly posted (Nokia N95-3: Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaN95-3/20.2.011; Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413)

will e71 be att hsupa capable?

Shared Drafts/Sent/Outbox?!!?! That is NOT cool! How is a person supposed to know which email address his/her composed email is going to be sent from when its complete - or WHERE it was sent from once the email is sent.

If this cannot be changed/altered or fixed in the first update, looks like I'll be using ProfiMail from LonelyCat Games for multiple mailbox handling - unless this ideal works out well.

Not to be mean, but since when does the word "Attach" mean/equal "read" ??
Attach ... you're sending an email out.
Read ... you're receiving an email with an attachment. Yes you CAN Read the attachement along with emails.

* Now the question is, will the current E90 BB Connect client install & work on the E71/E66; moreover, is there going to be an updated version from RIM & Nokia collaboration.

* Of note, I remember reading a RIM technical doc that said ONLY the E90 can RECEIVE PIN messages, just not send.

Oh i got a word from Rose and it has been shipped... I might get it by tomm

Sorry if this has been asked already. Is the gps the agps variety. So it doesn't need a cell signal to work? My n95-4's gps needs that signal which can make it useless or expensive to use if out of the country.

Why do they do this? I mean the form factor is large enough to handle a 3.5mm jack, same with the e51. The Nokia adapter is ugly and large, but what are we to do I guess?

Nor does the carrier get a chance to remove functionality from the phone.

Yup, I agree. Factory fresh, and unlocked, all the way. I'm fine with paying an extra $200ish for that.

E71 hopefully will hold me for a long time. As a person who has a N95-3 and N82, i'll ditch the N95-3 for it most likely. Keeping the N82 for night shots for now.

Where do you get that question from?

Of course I will. I'll use it with an AT&T SIM that isn't under contract.

For example, get a prepaid SIM card for any of the 3 prepaid plans, and use that. Pay Per Day with $20/mo unlimited data and $20/mo unlimited TXT. That's a good start. Or do Pick Your Plan.

Just because you don't buy the phone from AT&T doesn't mean you can't use it with AT&T.

You should have bought it from plemix/importgsm. The device is so perect that you dont feel bad about those little chinese lines on few keys. Infact you hardly notice on a QWERTY pad compared to the regular traditional keypad in which they are on every key. Also, we don't live with one phone forever! You can always get rid of it when the hype is over ;)

I totally agree with you. There is a gap below the screen and I, too, noticed light escaping from it with the illuminated screen.

It has only been a few days and I am already bored with my E71's capabilities in comparison with my old E90.

There is one redeeming quality in this E71 for those who do not already have the E90: portability.

Other than that, I believe that the E90 surpasses the E71 in all other regards when it comes to convergence and multimedia capability. I honestly wonder if I am getting bored with the Nokia S60 OS as a whole instead of just the E71 itself, because it appears to remain the same with even the feature packs. I really don't think that there will be any sort of overhaul on the S60 OS until the first touch screen UI device is released, and until then the S60 will continue to be predictable with the exception of new media and office capabilities.

Navigating the menus and trying out different apps was interesting for the first two days, but after a while it seemed to fall into the "E90 wannabe" stage. This would be a welcomed device if I didn't already have my E90 for when I have the need to play with Symbian S60, but to own it would be like buying a high-end VW when you've already got a more capable Audi.

For Nokia fans without an E90, this E71 is a sure step in the right direction for qwerty functionality with a sleek form factor.

While the E71 review trial has been fun, I am surely glad that this is only a review unit that I eventually get to send back overseas.
