*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

Was wondering if anybody with an e71 was having any trouble getting opera mobile to work. While I'm using an e66, it is about the same o.s. specs and all. On my 66, opera won't budge. Just frozen on the start page. I've re- downloaded it 3 times and it's the same. It works great on my n95-4 and I'm thinking it's an e series thing or maybe just an e66 thing. Any issues on the 71 with opera mobile?

I got an E71 today as well. I wasn't expecting it for a few more days.

E71-1 (from Womworld, so it makes sense why they sent me a Euro one instead of a NAM one; but that's ok, I use T-mobile anyway, so it's not like I could have used/evaluated the 3G).

It's small enough that I'm actually wondering if it's TOO small. The keyboard is just slightly uncomfortable for my hands, based on size and density of the keys. The feel of the keys (pressure required, tactile feedback of knowing whether or not you pressed a key, etc.) is OUTSTANDING... but I'm not sure I like how small the keypad is :-}

The new UI looks a little more slick, but under neathe it's mostly the same. The active standbye home screen has a little bit more to it than before.

There IS a screen saver. But it's hard to see it, because the screen dims so quickly and so deeply. But you do get glimpses of a HUGE clock (bigger than on the E61i), and the status icon(s). I'll see what I have to do to make it more visible. (EDIT: when the screen is dimmed and then the device locks itself, if you hold down the dpad select button, and the "screen saver" comes up and goes away when you let go; when its like that, you don't unlock it via the select button, you have to click anything other than the dpad, and then unlock it; also, when it's in this state, the light throbs even if you have no new messages/calls ... so, basically, what used to be the screen saver is just an info screen for when the device is locked)

I'll write more in my blog later.

Well I think I will hold off on judgement of the camera until I try it myself. I really can't imagine the camera being that bad as Nokia has been really good in implementing a good camera, even in the E-series. The E61i had a good camera without auto focus.

Does anyone know how to get the gallery to rescan your directories? I renamed my music directory on my microSDHC card and nothing will play in the music player :(

K wait a moment. why did you hard reset?
Check in Menu> Inst.Apps > and see if you have to pinkish Email swirl icons there titled "Email" and "Email Setup".
If so then that is Nokia Messaging.

Have you registered a logon email address (your first is your default) at http://email.nokia.com/account/home.action site?

IF not, go there. Register your email address & password to sign into THAT site (not your email address password.

Then setup your first email address. Then any others you need - if your pressed for time then register the first; have the site send you a push sms - this is opened in hte phone's messaging (SMS) Inbox and boom it'll download the Nokia Messaging client.

Launch the setup from the Menu > Installed Apps (Inst. Apps) and Email Setup: (it'll most likely auto open up after install from the Push SMS from registration site: FREE).

Now you can finally setup any additional email addresses.

If not just launch Email and if you have a data connection (APN or WLAN active/or not it'll prompt) push email will begin to work.
Within Email> Settings you can set days, time range of sync, and "SOONEST" is the auto push setting. If you change from SOONEST then it polls your email servers.

I currently have an E61 on Rogers. Last week they upgraded their data plan and blackberry plan to 1 GB for $100 but you still only get 200 MB on Blackberry Connect. They advised me that they are no longer supporting BlackBerry Connect. I am more than a little miffed. However, I was wondering if anyone knows if the new E71 will support Blackberry Connect?

Well, coming from a BB 8820, the size is definitely smaller/pocketable, and the screen is almost identical (E71 being a bit smaller), but the 16M colours make up for it. I've had it literally for like 10mins, still setting up Outlook sync, activating maps, etc.

Hey,
I don't know if this is the place to ask or not, but I am on AT&T's unlimited data for $15. I know it can't be unlimited. What is their data usage cap, if they even have one?

Never knew that, well, that would require a data plan which is still frigging expensive here, but it's good to know there's an option now.

Because we've all been waiting for so long and trying to keep the spirit alive, but I think we are all finally starting to fade.....We're all going a little cookoo...
