*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

You know...RIM has four phones that have been leaked by BGR and other sources...and RIM has not only acknowledged their existance, they have actually provided information themselves to substantiate every claim. They have said that the four phones are to be released...and released soon, but they don't give dates. But, they don't act stupid and deny their existance.

I'm not waiting on the E71, although I really, really want it...I'm snapping up the Bold, and/or the iPhone-2 when...not IF, they drop.

Heck, at least I know that RIM and Apple will actually release those two...

Why? I wear the things a lot. Then again, there's a lot of situations I'm in where I have to be on the phone and typing at the computer at the same time, so anything that frees up my hands is a very good thing.

haha, another thing I found the first day of playing with it, but couldn't find it afterwards, thanks. Things seem to be in odd places and not organized that well, but im starting to get used to it. The e71 and s60 are growing on me surprisingly. And so is the keyboard. All I need now is a 4gb or 8gb mem card and the phone will be perfectly setup with my music, pics, vids, and moto s9's :).

What is a place to get good free games? I found tons, but the majority or 240x320 (n95 res?) resolution instead of 320x240 :(

Just got an E71 and I can't seem to make a bluetooth connection with my mac yet I can connect to phones no problem. Is anyone else having this problem and does anyone have a solution?

Does it sync contacts, calendar, notes? What is the cost? I may have to check it out. Thanks for the info. I know I could look it up on line, but much prefer to ask questions of actual users.

i'm seriously about 50/50 between this and iPhone2 for my next phone. I currently have an e61, so obviously it's time to replace. i have tmobile and find they're the cheapest, and i assume the 3g on the e71 is compatible and the allaboutsymbian review mentioned the magic words: easy tethering.

2 things that make me lean toward the e71:
mp4 playback (i watch tv show videos on my device a lot), which would have skewed me toward the iphone if the e71 didnt support it, but i'd rather have both mp4 and .avi,
and
tethering (tmobile makes it incredibly cheap and convenient, att/iphone does not).

The one question still not answered is processor speed vs. iphone. I heard somehwere that e71 processor is a lot slower than iphone though faster than previous eseries. Has anyone done speed tests between e71 and iPhone with web browsing (using 3g, EDGE, WiFi)? if the e71 is noticeably slower that might be the deciding factor.
if anyone has the answer, much appreciated.
also any other comparisons.
thanks!

Curious finding, but it provoked a thought. Here in Canada on Rogers Wireless there is a feature that I have on my account. Missed Call Alert. If my phone is off or I'm out of signal range (in the subway here in Toronto) If I get a call obviously my phone will not ring. However when I do get signal back/powered on ... within about a minute I'll get the SMS showing me that I have a missed call and it'll show the number within it. I'll also get the icon (top of display on my K850i) stating there is a voicemail. I'll also get one more SMS stating "Voicemail 1, Urgent 0" or "Voicemail 5, Urgent 1". Seems annoying but useful. I'm wondering if this blank SMS is either supposed to let you know the number that you missed, OR how many Voicemails are in your inbox on the network. Give them a call just to see if they can disable & re-enabled SMS Originating & Terminating directly on the switch which won't screw up your billing plan. This may fix it. I know you stated not a problem with the network but worth a try. Or is it a function on all the FP1 phones??

tkao2025..... your battery cover doesnt creek? My right most row of keys have become very mushy as well. Im not using it much, but have decided to keep the E51 and forgo the E71. It would be cool for a while, but I know I would go back to a BB eventually.

the build quality of my 8820 is excellent, but all my BB have been excellent. I have only owned 2 Nokia devices (E90 and E51) and in general I have thought my BB have had better build quality. I do think however build quality can very very much between units of the same model.

I never got a chance to try the E61, but from my limited time with the E90 and longtime use of the 9300 (I swear that thing was made of depleted uranium, it's been through hell and back and works just as well as the day I got it) I'm quite looking forward to the release of the E71. I just wish they'd left the keyboard layout alone, the Z key right under the A is going to bug me to no end if I ended up buying it.

I just got an email yesterday morning from WomWorld stating that they've got review units of the E71 in stock. I am guessing that these are Euro versions, but for a free 2 week trial I am more than happy to test it out and speak about it on my blog and YouTube channel.

I should have the E71 shipped to me by the end of this week and I will keep everyone posted on what I think.
