*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

Ok. Sorry for using the word substandard. It is below par vis-a-vis its competition w.r.t features.
So was/is the ipod.

Edit: Demo pages have been pulled off. :help:

I am still struggling to install this stupid email app but no luck so far

I have made a test call .. the ear piece volume is LOUD! louder than E90 & on par with N95! I love the default ring tone on this.. really sweet!

Sorry to make you wait guys.. I really need this goodlink app to work, otherwise this phone is no good for me :(

Will post the pics soon...

Yea, I've always got three inboxes. One of the biggest issues I had with S60 was that only two can be set up for automatic checking, the third had to be manual. This really pissed me off, something BB-Connect resolved.

I've yet to use MFE for that.
And S60 doesnt really have anything 'unique' from PIM point of view that isnt already native on BB. Atleast what I've noticed. S60 should add category syncing, and man, the amount of WM users that'll jump ships!

Well you know the E71 is one slim jim of a business device. Even the BB bold is rather wide in comparison to the E71. Its a nice point of distinction if you value you this in your mobile communication device. The very reason why I walked away from my E61i was the fact that it is a thin brick of a phone (way too wide). The E71 appears to carry a much sought after almost perfect set of dimensions for some.

Totally unacceptable situation at the moment.

My battery just died while Im at work. I took it off the charger this morning at 9am(after its second full cycled charge). I have bluetooth on as well as email checking every 5 mins. Ive done 2 phone calls at a total of 5 mins and about 10 texts. Maybe about 10 email reads. No internet surfing at all.

My curve at this point with the same stuff on would have only lost half a bar to one bar. There is no way I can keep a phone that doesnt last even a full day at my normal usage.

Yup THATS the hidden costs; at least for us in Canada. Wonder if there'll also be a SPECIAL data cap, as that App Coder company & Apple Messaging PUSH service for multitasking apps, or notification really, is going to eat up Data on the network like NOTHING ELSE. I love that presentation though - totally hilarious how Forestall said "This is nuts" about Microsofts Task Manager and brushing up your computer science skills. This is translating into Mac sales in the past 6qtrs exponentially as well. Data costs STILL are NOT mentioned on Rogers' confirmation of equal US pricing on 3G iPhone 2 and availability. Don't worry the same will happen a few times around the world in those 70countries as well.

Sorry humans evented buttons for a reason, not to go back to a slick surface for Hunt & Peck like chickens. Sure if you write in Kanji then the touch screen makes absolutely perfect sense.

It's cheaper to buy it unlocked and unbranded, yes.

The contract-price subsidy doesn't equate the amount of extra money you pay throughout the time of that contract. Otherwise they wouldn't give you that subsidy.

You can use the GPS without a single cent worth of data, in fact if you go to GPS -> GPS data -> Options -> Position settings, you can permanently disable "assisted GPS" and "network based" and use just "integrated GPS".

You have to be prepared for two things if you want to use GPS as a navigational tool and don't want to use data.

1.) Be prepared for a long first time to fix and this has to be done outside (IMO). This can be anywhere from 5-10 minutes, depending on when you last used the GPS.

2.) You have to download the maps for your region or your destination in advance. Google "Nokia Map Loader", there is a tool that you can download from the official Nokia website where you can get select maps (i.e. in North America, you can choose Canada + US or a specific country or dial it down to specific states/provinces. You have to download these and save them to your memory card.

If you don't follow #2, you will still use data IF you have a Nokia device that is not from your region (i.e. I have a E71-1 and i live in Canada) because it will download map data as you move.

AFAIK, this means that if you plan on using google maps, be prepared to incur data charges as google downloads the map data on the fly.

Hope that helps.

I mean nobody is being asked to wait here..

I am sick of people whining and posting if this phone doesn't come out now I'm getting me a BOLD or the iPhone 2.0..

please... Does it really matter when it comes out? I mean even if it comes out next year, you guys will still get it.

If you really like the device, you wouldn't even care what RIM or Apple puts in front of your face.

and BTW!! Hell to branding the E71!! Cause I know their going to cripple it anyways..

Rap, can you explain how the Beamer BT functionality works with your phone, obviously for voice calls, but for contacts too?

I have an X5, but its an 01 but I still love it. The new X5 can not be purchased with a 5 speed anymore, so I have decided to continue to continue to drive mine another year or two, (still have kids that do sports and camping that an SUV comes in handy) and will then get another 5 series sedan (with a 5 speed of course). Im curious as how they integrate?
