*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

I remember the E65 and E61i were released really quick, but so was the N95 8GB, so I'm not sure.....all I know is there has been no new announcements for new E-series devices for awhile and the E65/E61i are at least a year old so they are overdue.....

Wirelessly posted (Nokia E71: Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaE71-1/100.07.76; Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413)

Its fairly decent. I'm liking it but with the new data plan (i will switch when I'm back) NAM will be an awesome choice. I really want to get the Bold but seeing as how my QWERTY needs are addressed with this, I may get an iphone instead.

But who really knows! Any word from SN?

Wow I can't believe I have read this whole thread, I am tired.

Soo I got mine and it is all sorts of greatness, two observations and two questions:

1. html viewing of emails is easier than e61/e61i, push email is superfast as usual on exchange. Edge is faster processing webpages and downloading (How I have no idea)
2. it is a geek magnet! I went to fry's today to get a 8gb microsd (39$!) and I could barely get out of the store.

I could go on and on because this phone is great...

Questions:
1. what is the best way to get US maps?
2. Did I hear you could take a picture of a business card and it would import it? I haven't found that yet.
3. (I said two sorry) Anyone figured out the barcode scanner? I have pointed it at many barcodes but have no idea of the purpose or if it works..

Thanks for the link. Nice looking device. Does anybody else wish the screen size was just a tad bigger? Also, has anyone heard whether t-mo 1700 will be on it?

I'm liking the look of the e66 also. I love a good slider. Having t-mo g3 capable would be the scale tipper for either one of these.

I read it too about the 9000. Looking forward to that announcement.
Though I am scared of investing in a BB, since the whacko Indian Govt. may suddenly stop all BB services one fine day.

1. Look at the sticky in this forum about maps and navigation. Plenty of different options, depending on what you are looking for. You can use Nokia's maps free but without navigation, or you could use google maps, but would need datat etc.
2. Yes, there's a Nokia apllication for that included with the phone, but the installation files are located on the 2GB msd that comes with the phone and automatically install on boot (you need to copy that card into your new card if you upgraded to a bigger one). In my tests it worked pretty well.
3. I'm not sure about the barcode scanner if any different than the N95, but it def works with 2D codes (look for those around, you basically point and it retrieves the info, which could be internet address etc. and you could load the link that way on your phone). Kind of fun, could be convenient sometimes. As for regular barcodes, not so sure, but either way, not really useful imo.

it depends on the app, but yes. Most apps will ask you what data access point to use (ie the carriers network, or a wifi AP it has defined). Some apps will allow you to store the default AP for the application, others do not.

I was on the verge of grabbing the 910c too, but I backed away after reading how many people are returning theirs. I jumped on the E71-1 (I've been a T-Mobile user so no 3G for me) and even over EDGE it's a great phone. Now that the -2 model is out I'm getting one of those (arrives later today or tomorrow) and jumping ship to AT&T (Yay! 3G for me!!). Although it's only EDGE for me right now, battery life has been stellar! I can go days without charging.
