*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

Maybe....but at least we've seen the bold being actually announced and the Iphone will be announced in June. Unless Nokia will announce this phone with stores stocked already, it will certainly not come out before the bold...as I think this is the main competition of the E71...the main competition of the Iphone will be the Tube or even the N96 as it's more multimedia focused.

A QUESTION for E71-2 Owners

Are you able to Switch between Non-Active Standby and Active Standby w/ the Switch Mode Feature

For Example: Play Mode have active standby turned off but Work Mode have Active standby ON, can you customize a key to switch between them..(long/short press a key to switch)

I have been reading the last 10 pages of this thread and still couldn't figure out what's going to be release/onsale this Wednesday (tomorrow). Is it an official release from Nokia or from pre-order places like Tigerdirect, buy.com or?

For those of us in NYC, you can always go to NYC flagship store and ask them (nicely) to play with the prototype. I went there last week after work and had a chance to play with both graphite and white version.

I can't wait to get my hands on the graphite version. I don't really care about 3G as I need to use it with AT&T under iPhone data plan and don't want to raise any flag with them in term of 3G vs. Edge data usage.

Media player is fine for me; I usually use my 80 GB Zune though in my car; that way I have all my music (and the wife's music) with me. But if I am walking somewhere I just take the E71, my Yuin PK3 earbuds and a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adfapter, and it works great. WIth Mobbler running in the background, of course, as I am a last.fm whore :silly:

I cannot remember where you got the "plus.smtp/pop" type settings, but I think its specific to some providers for Outlook access. If you can remove them take out the "plus." in both the outgoing & incoming mail servers.

Curious what is your yahoo type? (ie Yahoo.com, Yahoo.ca, Yahoo.uk, or ymail.com/uk/ca/etc)??

I hope Nokia does well with the E71, but I take offense to the "stupid american" remark. You may consider yourself in that catagory, but I dont. One thing you need to understand is that every market is different, and thus different products differ by region. Every multinational automaker has known this for years, and thus develops and markets different automobiles for the needs and desires of the target market.

That being said, just because Europe or Asia has a different market structure and different requirements doesnt make the American market "stupid". If you know anything about economics or marketing you should understand that in the end the market will dictate to the manufacturer what is desired. It is not up to the manufacturer to determine what is needed.

You guys can love them or hate them, but Apple seems to be very in tune to this. The reason the iPhone and all the other idevices have been so popular is because Apple is good at developing products the market actually WANTS. It has nothing to do with what is superior on a technical basis.

This post is not in defense of any platform, OS, or device. My only point is, if you give the market what they want, you will have a sucdessful product.

Personally, I think nokia has a winner here, provided they team up with the carriers and get the chip off their shoulders. Wake up Nokia, marketing in the states is different that other parts of the world. Its not right or wrong, its just different.

Good to hear! I may keep this phone after all then :clapping: I was so scared to brick my e71 tho. So is NSU down for everyone or just for me? Thanks for all the help!!!

I finally got my N75 unlocked and Nokia-flashed, so now I'm back to this from WinMobile...YAY! Only thing is, I realized some of the cool stuff I had sitting on this thing Java-wise, and I'm not sure they'll translate well to a portrait screen on the E71....and using the numeric keypad instead of a QWERTY isn't quite as bad as I remembered it to be. Maybe I'll get the E66 instead. Or I suppose I could always grab a big-screen N95, hehe...
