*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

1. The breathing light blinks fast when you have a message, missed call, email, etc.. It just pulses when there is no activity on the phone. You can always use the old active standby screen if that suits your needs better.

2. The bar code reader is a internet bar code scanner thing, its pretty useless but cool to use like once. Usually its a html link embedded in the code.
3. have no clue what remote wipe youre talking about

The screen res on the Bold is tilting it all towards the Bold for me. I knw I'll get the E71 for sure, just wont be the first few buyers though. Might jump into it few weeks after it hits the shelves.

Yep, white will certainly show the dirt. This brings to mind a question. I'm wondering if anybody else is as meticulous as I am for keeping their phones spotlessly clean. Nah, I'm prolly the only one.

SanDisk 8GB from ebay. it comes with the adapter to regular SD size, and USB reader. found one for $27 + 9.99 shipping + CA 8.25% tax (doh!!!!!!)

I used an ebay coupon redemption for 10% off; it came out to be $37.00 after the coupon. so i pretty much got the tax waived LOL

The bad thing about AT&T getting the E71 is that they might crack down on unlocked E71 users that are using it with a $15 data plan. The phone will be in AT&Ts system so they will recognize unlocked ones being used on the network. AT&T will probably require a $30 data plan for their version.

Just a guess, I could be wrong.

So I have used my e71 for 4-5 days, observations:

1. Nokia maps work great, but the gps takes a bit to aquire, also twice when starting nokia maps it has locked up completely requirung battery removal.. Maps download on edge at an acceptable speed (Being edge)

2. Processor is way faster, email syncing takes 1/2 the time on e71 compared to my e61i

3. I am running MFE and Roadsync both with push email to two different exchange accounts and it works great, every once in a while MFE drops but reconnects a short time later.

4. Volume is much much louder than e61i, I only have 70% hearing on the left, if I have it all the way up I have no trouble hearing it, on the right it is almost too loud :)

5. Setting the popup function on the home screen is nice, allows for viewing recent emails for both my exchange and text and call logs while not dropping them off the screen where I can't see them unless I clear (Like e61i or e61)

6. I have yet to hook it up to wifi, the edge just seems alot faster on this phone, I am on tmobile and the edge is faster than when I roam to att, probably all those iphones. Large webpages load up fine, no more browser crashing. I loaded up a 3mb page and it was crunching a bit but loaded up fine.

7. Downloaded a PDF through email and apparently the fonts are screwed up and all you see are boxes instead of letters.. It was a pdf from quickbooks so I don't see how that could be non-standard. pulls up on e61i fine.

8. With two push email accounts and edge on all the time, I can get two days out of it. (Keep in mind I am not using 3g)

9. Like the leather case, proves useful!

10. Month view on the calendar is much better with summary of the day you are on.

11. I like the dot in the menu on what you have running, nice to see if you are running alot of stuff, you can close out apps if you forgot you had them open.

12. Bluetooth, it is synced with my car, and works great, sound quality is better and I can see signal strength now, but twice it has failed to connect, switching bluetooth off and back off fixes it.

13. Again, it's a people/geek magnet. And if you want to scare them away, turn the flash on and take their picture.

There is my two cents, really 4 cents.

Depending on the program, Exchange will syn with Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks, but not notes.

If you buy Roadsync, you will have the option to move emails to folders. MFE does not support folders at this time.

Thank you for your replies - I searched around and could not find a definitive answer. I kind of wish it was stated somewhere...hard to tell what a modem is these days :P
That's unfortunate. I guess from my experience with standard modems, I noticed that the bluetooth one "appeared" similar...so I hoped it would work similarly.

Yes, that would be an example of it.
