*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

That's part of it...$418 is pretty decent...but I still don't have anything firm from Dell about carrying it either. I might be able to do better from them....

Hey, does anyone know how to format the e71? I'm about to sell it to get the NAM version (supposed to be out this week according to rumours), but didn't find out how. I tried Nokia Software Updater to restore the original firmware, but I get "Sorry, the Nokia Software Updater is currently unavailable. Please disconnect the device and try later".

The E71 will not have any problems against the Blackberry Bold. The E71's size and execution of the product (metal body), will lure a certain kind of business customer. The Blackberry bold is going to be a mainstream commodity smartphone. The E71 will be a true executive business device.

to call 1-800-FLOWERS:

dial 1800
press the shift key twice, then press the function key once
then go on typing FLOWERS

should work

I got a question too.
Is it just me or can the screen saver not be turned off when you're in any profile except normal? Ex: only in normal is the screen completely blank. I have the screen saver turned off in theme settings. but something about the profiles is messing it up

Wirelessly posted (nokia n95-3: Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaN95_8GB-3/1.2.011 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413)

I'm changing my mobile mindset for this phone to justify the smaller screen size than my n95. Having the e71 with its awesome battery and keyboard, s60 OS, insane build quality, etc is all i want out of this device. Not having to worry about a wall charger is huge. And the fact that this thing is so insanely slim yet solid keeps me from caring one bit. I'll still have my n95 anyway.:)

Around page 220 or so someone was concerned that their E71's display was leaking light through a gap between the display's cover and the keypad. While it's possible there's some kind of fault in that particular unit, I tested this with mine and noticed something that might be of value to those who are worried:

Go to a room you can turn dark with the flip of a switch. Make sure the lights are on.

Wake up your E71 and give it a few seconds to adjust to the room lighting. Keypad lights should not turn on.

Before the E71 dims itself, turn off the lights in the room and observe the gap - you should notice that there is absolutely no light leakage in the gap (well, there isn't on my unit anyway).

Wait for the E71's light sensor to realize the room is dark and turn on the keypad backlighting - now you might see some leakage (I do).

It's still possible there is some other way for dust to get between the cover and the LCD, but there's clearly no light leakage from the display to indicate this is the way in.

As for the keypad backlight leak indicating a potential "future dust problem" (you'll notice the d-pad pulse also leaks if you're in the dark), I'm not concerned by that myself above and beyond the norm. Every single phone I've used has featured gaps between the keys because, you know, those buttons have been designed that way. Same with the E71. I have never owned a dust-proof cellphone, so I've never expected any of my phones to be dust-proof, yet none of them (Nokia 1630, Nokia 8210, Siemens S55, QTek S100, Sony Ericsson k800i) have failed due to dust or otherwise. I'm hoping this will be the case with the E71, although I'm ever so slightly concerned about the long-term durability of what I believe are lead-free solders used in the E71 (it's a MIF unit though, if that matters).

Anyway, I suppose issues with dust have something to do with where you live and how you handle your phone, too. I'd expect Las Vegas, USA to have a much bigger dust problem than Helsinki, Finland, for instance ;)

But the Symbian aficionado would point out how much time people waste hacking other systems in order to do what Symbian allows right out of the box.

I'm waiting until they are readily available at several different locations...then I'll lurk around and see if the early adopters are wrestling with any bugginess or issues...

Not scared...just cautious. I almost bought an SE k850i the week that it hit...and that phone has turned into a major nightmare for many.

So is it possible to do it right now? If yes, can you show me step by step? I didn't have much knowledge with cellphones stuffs, that's why I bought that version of the e71. I really need those accent since I'll probably use this phone a lot for e-mails and spelling is very important.

Funny - I'm using my unbranded E51 and E61i with AT&T and they do not do this.
This was a problem with unbranded Motorola phones for a while - never saw it with Nokia.

Hello, got that app. installed and up and running great as is everything else with this phone. Just a little bit of a learning curve for me with s60 menus. But the Gmail app works great.

Question, after installing that gmail app, I am trying to link it to the email key if it is possible. However when going to the email key settings it wants to set up a new mailbox or define my mailbox which I assume to be push mail, correct or no which I don't want. I started to enter my gmail info here and see where it took me but thought I would ask first.

I am basically just trying to get this email key to be a shortcut to Menu/Installations/Gmail, (no push). Do anyone know if this can be done.

Thanks
Sammy
