Around page 220 or so someone was concerned that their E71's display was leaking light through a gap between the display's cover and the keypad. While it's possible there's some kind of fault in that particular unit, I tested this with mine and noticed something that might be of value to those who are worried:
Go to a room you can turn dark with the flip of a switch. Make sure the lights are on.
Wake up your E71 and give it a few seconds to adjust to the room lighting. Keypad lights should not turn on.
Before the E71 dims itself, turn off the lights in the room and observe the gap - you should notice that there is absolutely no light leakage in the gap (well, there isn't on my unit anyway).
Wait for the E71's light sensor to realize the room is dark and turn on the keypad backlighting -
now you might see some leakage (I do).
It's still possible there is some other way for dust to get between the cover and the LCD, but there's clearly no light leakage from the display to indicate
this is the way in.
As for the keypad backlight leak indicating a potential "future dust problem" (you'll notice the d-pad pulse also leaks if you're in the dark), I'm not concerned by that myself above and beyond the norm. Every single phone I've used has featured gaps between the keys because, you know, those buttons have been designed that way. Same with the E71. I have never owned a dust-proof cellphone, so I've never expected any of my phones to be dust-proof, yet none of them (Nokia 1630, Nokia 8210, Siemens S55, QTek S100, Sony Ericsson k800i) have failed due to dust or otherwise. I'm hoping this will be the case with the E71, although I'm ever so slightly concerned about the long-term durability of what I believe are lead-free solders used in the E71 (it's a MIF unit though, if that matters).
Anyway, I suppose issues with dust have something to do with where you live and how you handle your phone, too. I'd expect Las Vegas, USA to have a much bigger dust problem than Helsinki, Finland, for instance
