*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia 6650 (RM-324 6650d-1bH) NAM 3G 850/1900

So I just heard about the phone this weekend, and I'm excited to come in on the front end of this one. My last phone was the 6682 when it was about two years old. I saw the 6650 in my local cingular store and I had a few questions. Whats with the center soft key now? How are you guys disabling the annoying GPS button? Would all my apps from my 6682 still work? oggplay, smartmovie, vNES, vGBA, vSUN, Office, CALcium, Fexplorer, etc... If they won't work will I atleast be able to find replacements for them? This upgrade is a no brainer Right? Thats what the stats say on phone scoop. Has anyone found a way to delete the bloatware stuff yet?

Ha! Yep. Thanks, thunder and Tofu; that was it. I'm now That Guy(TM) who can't figure out which way these durn technology things go. I'm also having trouble with my computer's retractable cupholder, if anyone's interested...

So far my biggest gripe with the phone compared to my N75 is the keypad. There aren't keys on the thing. I like the tactile feedback of separate buttons. But, then, I'm the sort of person who never likes new things at first; and I haven't really had the opportunity to play with HSDPA, GPS, or the battery life, which are the three reasons I upgraded. Ask me again in a week, and I bet I'll like it. Especially after I get around to installing MagicKey.

Does MagicKey always run in the background like Tracker or does it permanently change the buttons?... I doubt it can handle 16 gig cards... mine would crash/ have random restarts just about everyday... you guys aren't having that problem?... I was also missing calls which was really annoying... and the ringer was too soft... you guys really like it?...

I have had the 6650 for almost 4 months now. Probably the best phone I have owned, besides my old school 6230. The only thing I hate about it besides the ATT ad-ons, is the charger plug. Hard to use the phone while charging. Battery life is good. Google maps kicks ***.

i dont have the phone but i just read it in one of the reviews but i guess the att version doesnt have office...i thnk tht is a deal breaker for me..i think ill go for the N78

Demand paging is an amazing thing. Can you run MFE on it? If you can and use the Music Player and take pictures at the same time it satisfies my basic requirement.

I've had my 6650 for 6 months now. I don't think there's a way to remove the AT&T bloatware. That crap really bothered me at first, but once I installed MagicKey and put in a microSD card, I can completely avoid the AT&T stuff.

Has anyone installed Swim (Bergamot) on their 6650? I installed it on an E71 with no problem but the 6650 keeps giving me install errors. I went through the Symbian signing process with my 6650's IMEI but it just won't complete install.

Why should you hate it? It still is a S60 and it should come with every benefit of owning a S60, all that 5MP camera/TV-out jazz is just icing on the cake. It's a not requirement for a good solid device that does what you need it to do. Let us know about how all your software runs on it and whether it is stable. That's what's really important.

So, it's the phone that's stupid, not you right? There's nothing quite like people who complain first, then ask questions later.

Incidentally, if you don't want something that's crippled, buy an unlocked phone. Otherwise, expect it.

If you don't mind shelling out for it, the N78 would be a much better choice than the 6650. The 6650 is great if you want to get an S60 for dirt-cheap.

It's been a busy couple of weeks, but I finally got around to trying another download. I chose the N95 phone, previously I had chosen the N75 because it was a folder. The file it gave me was "InternetRadioUpdate31v18". It seems to work like a charm so far, thanks for the help! Now all I need is to find a station that plays a lot of Jimmy Buffett

Not one crash as of yet no restarts. And factory ringer was ok then I changed it and it's about as loud as all my other Nokia phones. So far for the money it's a pretty good phone. Sounds like you got a dud.

Still some features that my 6300 has that this doesn't have but I'm adjusting. If they come out with a bar phone S40 operating system with u.s 3g then I'll sell this in a second. Until then this is ok.

I'm gonna exchange mine tomorrow... I think I got a lemon... if the new one gives me problems then I'm just gonna return it before the 30 days and go back to no contract... the N78 nam is looking pretty good... too bad it's $300! Usually I like flip phones but why do most flip phones have to be crappy specs-wise?...

Does anyone know if there is a setting that can be changed so that the external screen is locked when you close the flip? I hate having to manually lock the external keys every time I flip the phone closed.

I don't want to use the lock timer because it works when the phone is open as well as closed. If the phone is open I don't want it to auto lock after xx seconds.

I've looked and can't find a setting like this, so maybe there is an add on program that will do what I'm looking for...

Hey sariehs, you think you can instruct has to exactly how you went about deleting the at&t stuff off of the phone? I also use X-Plore, but when I try to delete the at&t items, it doesn't allow me to.
