*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia 6650 (RM-324 6650d-1bH) NAM 3G 850/1900

Got my 6650.. How do I change the shortcut menu on the main screen?
Seening as how I never user things like "Yellowpages" I would like to remove them from that menu and add something more useful like Nokia Maps.

I used the key mapper "Tracker" and I could only get it to replace the keys with other functions in their places... I couldn't get them to just do nothing, which is what I really wanted it to do... I didn't have a chance to use MagicKey or any of the other ones so I can't speak for them... AT&T totally ruined this phone(!)... putting too many keys on the keypad... I wish I could find an unlocked Tmobile UK version... I think that one is the better phone!...

FYI - I was able to purchase a bundled Unlimited MediaNet with AT&T Navigator for $20 a month. If you purchase separately, MediaNet is $15 and AT&T Navigator is $10.

I did not see this advertised on the AT&T website. When I called AT&T, they informed me about this bundle.

So far, I'm happy with the Nokia 6650. I can tell my reception is better. There were certain areas at my workplace where my old phone could not make calls, but this Nokia is able to. Sometimes I do inadvertently hit the Camera key or the Navigator key, but as I get used to the keys, it is happening less often.

just got my silver Nokia 6650 didnt like the red one at all. This is my first Nokia phone So far I love it. It is a well build phone with a lot of extras. I replaced my old Blackberry Pearl for it. I also have a iPhone that will become my fancy iPod, didn't care to much for it as a phone.

OK. I've found a way to automatically unlock the keypad when you flip open the phone...and lock the keypad (along with the external soft keys) when you close the phone.

1. Download PythonForS60_1_4_5_3rdEd.sis from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=154155&package_id=171153&release_id=644640
2. Download flipper.rar from http://flipper.tgae.pdg.pl/flipper.rar

Install the Python file, then decompress flipper.rar and install the two resulting .sis files. Then run Flipper. Don't concern yourself with the fact that Options and Exit won't work. The author of Flipper acknowledges this in his readme.txt file. The program satisfies the need, and that's all he cares about. I agree. Nothing fancy, but does the job. Close the phone to exit the blank screen. It doesn't survive turning off the phone, so Flipper will need to be run again in that instance...unless you use another nifty utility called PowerBoot.

Does anybody knows a program to use the LED light as a flashlight? I know there are programos to use the screen as a torch, but I want to use the LED of the camara.

Thanks

I had the memory error on my 6650 a few times. It was when I had a lot of stuff running, but otherwise, a really solid phone. I just hate that AT&T had to put their stupid media net and nav buttons on the phone.

I went from the e71 to the e72. I just sold my e71 on ebay for 190 bucks. And mine was in super good condition. I loved that phone. That said, I love my e72 also, except for a couple things, I wish Nokia didn't do the e72. I wish they would have kept the speaker on the top, and not moved it to the back of the phone. That is my biggest gripe with the phone. The prices of the e72 are also coming down. Whichever you go with, you won't be disappointed.

well, i just got this phone too.. it's a good and bad thing to have read this thread first though (the volume is too damn low, and yes, i keep hitting the gps button!). all you guys have been helpful describing the phone yet the criticism makes me look at the phone harshly too!

anyways, something that bugs me. each time somebody calls me, i flip up my phone to answer BUT i can't hear the other person talk (the green phone icon is on the top and the only way to answer is to press the "back" right shortcut button). Does anybody know what's up with that?

also, i would LOVE to get rid of all the at&t links and some locked themes. please let us know, thanks!

Magic Key works great, it can have them do nothing, but what I did was have them extend the keypad, so GPS was down, browser is left and camera is right. It works out extra well. on another note, does anyone know if this thing supports the 16GB SDHC cards?

I don't even see an option for "settings" or anything that might be settings in the Google Maps menu.

3.25, 01-10-08
customer version 3.25.01, 10-02-08.

The GPS works great in Nokia Maps, but I get nothing in Google Maps.

Check,
Options , tools , use gps

One more thing,
Google may mis-identify the 6650 as needing the java version of Google Maps. That one will not work with GPS.
You would need to find a way to download the Symbian version in that case.

Same here. It actually handled most things pretty nicely, in terms of multimedia. As you can see, I ended up giving it a 'highly recommended' rating. I found it hard to find fault, which is rare for Moto phones, lol.
