*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia 6650 (RM-324 6650d-1bH) NAM 3G 850/1900

So, I'm checking the Skyfire website, and it looks like a lot of other people are having trouble getting it to work on their S60 phone... something about PIPS vs. no PIPS... so it's possible it's not the phone's problem after all... I'll keep you guys updated... if anyone knows anything, let me know plz...

Thanks for the heads-up on the correctly-signed Opera. I'll look around later today. I tried both the version that Opera "thinks" that I need and an earlier version, but no dice on either.

I might give MagicKey a spin later as well.

Your experience sounds like mine so far. I just got mine yesterday.

I've been more than pleased thus far. It's a definite step up from my old Motorola V710, which wasn't and still isn't a bad phone, but definitely not as capable!

Oddly the USB cable adapter came with my wife's V9x so I have one but since I have Bluetooth available that's easier for me to use.

The phone seems like a good balance for me. I'm not willing to shell out big bucks for the higher-end S60 phones as I don't need that much capability, but this one has more than a standard phone which pleases me.

I don't know if anyone else tried, but I was able to log into GMail Mobile. You can't type in the log-in textbox, but you can go to a notepad page to type in your username and password if you press '5'.

Overall, this is a very nice and powerful flip phone. Although the extra row of buttons that AT&T put in could be a dealbreaker. I constantly hit the GPS button when I'm pressing down on the D-pad. I will try out MagicKey after reading Symbian-Guru's review.

BTW, any micro B USB cable will work with the 6650 right?

Sounds exactly like me. :D I trade off to a Moto RAZR2 V9 now and then, like if I'm going out and need a slim phone for my suit jacked pocked, or if I'm going to the beach and don't want to risk getting my N95 sandy. I miss having GPS though, even in a run-around phone, and the Moto RAZR only works with the paid TelNav service.

This new 6650 looks like the perfect upgrade to the RAZR. I was pretty hepped up for the new RAZR2 V9x, with internal GPS, but it's the same deal as the regular V9 - GPS only through the paid service. Clearly this is a phone limitation, not an AT&T limitation, because my Blackberry's GPS works with either BB Maps or Google Maps. The only reason to pay for directions is if you want spoken route guidance. Same with my N95. Freakin' Moto.

does anyone know, do the exterior touch keys change color with the internal keypad? im trying to figure out how nokia says that they can cycle different colors for notification of missed calls etc... you wont see that if the flip is closed.

It's kind of weird but I've had a few people call me lately and tell me that the phone rang on their end and even went to voicemail but I have no record of them calling... usually if it rang on their end then it would show up as a miscall on my end, so I don't know if this is a problem with the phone or with AT&T or what...

Nice...despite my protests, my brother-in-law got one of these recently and after handling it, I'd say I was most impressed with the build quality. I too thought on that aspect alone, it wasn't half bad. I just can't handle the Moto interface.

I have one too. The battery life is super; I can go three days without a charge. The only thing I don't like about it are obviously the small screen, the frequent 'low memory' messages and, ugh, T9 is getting on my nerves.

I'm seriously taking a look at what you also have, an E72. Its numerous reported problems make me hesitant, so I may just go for an E71; Amazon has the 71s for around $250.

Folks, as a Symbian S60 newbie, I've read through this thread and learned all kinds of useful information. I uninstalled the AT&T bloatware using Xplore and the trick of loading them onto a memory card; I even took off AT&T Nav and it let me delete that icon. (Did anyone figure out how to take off the shopping links?) I have Google maps, Skyfire and other nifty apps. Now I want to install MagicKey to remap the PTT and the GPS (was AT&T Nav) keys. I have My phone set to install all software and online certificate check turned off, but I can't install MagicKey; it fusses at me about certificates. I went onto Symbian Signed and tried to sign MagicKey, but it fusses at me about UIDs. I can't install the software that makes MagicKey load on startup if I can't even get MK installed. I'd be grateful for guidance from one of you experienced folks.

^alright! another 6650 member!

Colbey> yeah, with the phone closed, you want the Micro SD inserted upside down so that the teeth is up. it's strange why it's like this (i accidently had it jammed the other way too!).

i've gotten pretty used to using the keypad. i'm able to avoid the gps button. i don't really get how to set up magickey correctly but so far so good.
