Is Ferguson in the second movie?

And, just so ya know, Canada isn't covered in snow year round or anything.

Though, I am going skiing this weekend, but I'm actually going specifically to the mountains to do it! Haha.


But anyway, how was my Ferguson performance this week? I hope I didn't disappoint too much.
 
Woah. A Toei dub that doesn't invole Cloverway or Optimum Productions? Guess Toei learned their lessons.

Name changes aren't really that big of a deal. I mean, American dubs aren't the only ones to change names. Glad they're keeping the original music. Does this series have any vocal songs in future episodes? Maybe they'll be dubbed?



I see your point. Even if they keep in later Japanese references, it could get messy. Just at Sailor Moon's dub. The main characters have American names, yet the dub still takes place in Japan.
 
That's why this airing is so important. If it's well-received, it might ultimately be what keeps non-toy commercial anime alive on YTV. (Yes, I am aware of Pretty Cure's merchandising background, but that's not how the show is being marketed here.) Hopefully it catches on with younger audiences and doesn't a) get pulled after 13 episodes, or b) fall into 'fan only' territory like Zatch Bell did.

I've never really watched this show before, but it looks like a lot of fun. I might actually follow it! Action was actually very good, and I loved the bit with Nat being surprised after she and Hannah automatically recited their magical girl speeches. The dub itself is really good. It seems to be a straight dub of the original, outside of the name changes and digitally replaced text. But nothing sticks out like a sore thurab, at least not based on the first episode. As for other references... well, we'll see. The opening, despite sounding like it was recorded in a tin can, is pretty catchy. Definitely above average for original dub openings. And the end of the credits did indicate that the dub was done at Blue Water.

I was also surprised that they said "oh my god!" Do cartoons normally still try to avoid that?
 
Finished watching the second episode earlier today. I almost missed the recap because YTV, for some screwed up reason, decided to air the show 4 minutes earlier than its scheduled time.

Anyways, the dub is looking pretty good. The girls haven't settled into their roles fully enough but I believe they'll improve as the show goes on.

The Dark King's voice was pretty fitting and I so expected the chef to have a French accent.

Oh, and Willjwood, welcome to the forums. Great to have you here! You guys are doing a pretty good job on the dub so far. Can't wait to see what the rest of the Dark Zone minions sound like.

It's waaaay too early to be thinking about the Pretty Cure movies. I think Toei wants to see how the show will do ratings wise before allowing YTV to license any of the Pretty Cure movies.

P.S. Don't be discouraged by King Hippo, Willjwood. He's been punched in the belly button one too many times.
 
I don't think it'll be much of a problem. The dubs of Digimon, Sailor Moon, Shaman King and Dinosaur King are all example of shows that have Americanized character names, but still have the setting in Japan and keep most cultural references.
 
Man I totally messed up my recording today >< I ended up recording the wrong channel. I'm still getting theh and of this DVD recording thingie. I also ended up missing Ruby Gloom...drats. What I'm curious about is if there is any overt mentions of Tokyo or Japan anywhere... I'm not sure there is even any in the original... unless there's a fight at Tokyo Tower (good chances there is all things considered...).
 
The word "Tokyo" is never mentioned in the show, from what I recall.

However the "war" is mentioned in an important character building episode with Honoka's grandmother, and has a nuraber of scenes that clearly take place in the aftermath of the fireborabing of Tokyo.

The only place name that is mentioned is "Wakabadai", the suburb of Tokyo in which they live (the train station is also "Wakabadai" train station).

However, ironically enough the train station used as a template for the shot is not wakabadai station, but in fact "shindaita" station (4 stops from where I live).

The Wakabadai in Pretty Cure is not a real Tokyo suburb, but sort of a fictional corabination of a bunch of different ones.

It's kind of like saying that they live in "Springfield".
 
Then discuss the point calmly then - if it's genuinely poor, you can make your points in a calm, not agitated, fashion, and you can back with a reasoned argument. You don't just call it "a hackdub" then expect people to agree. Considering how little has been changed (especially vs. the original pass at dubbing it where it was completely rescored too,) you'll have to back up what you say if you don't want a immediately skeptical reaction.

That goes for everybody in thread, capiche? You want to talk ad-hominems, "this is teh suck" and "no u" there are countless other places on the internet where you're welcome. Not here.
 
Thought you'd be happy to hear, Hippo, that a line in episode 2 is:
"Nothing beats the simple joy of rice and miso soup".

They could have easily just said "soup", but they said the full name of miso soup.

Also, they have kept the name of the city as "Wakaba City" and simply changed a few signs to read that in english letters.
 
I hope Nicktoons TV picks this up and imports to the U.S. I say Nicktoons TV, even thought Cartoon Network has imported a lot of Canadain programming lately including the Bakugan dub, but there relationship it with Teletoon, this is a YTV show which has a relationship with Nickelodeon, and this would never air on the main Nickelodeon channel, but could air on the Nicktoons TV channel.
 
I agree I'd Love to see it on Nick, Nicktoons OR CN, But sadly I think We here in to US will just have to wait for the DVD's if there ever are any. If not theres always other ways of viewing it...Ways that shall not be named.

(For I don't want Voldimorts wrath upon me..LOL)
 
King Hippo, I think what everyone is trying to say here is that you may be overreacting a little (note how I say "may be"). It's true that the certain characters' names were changed, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are...say, trying to make it look as though it takes place in (North) America rather then Japan. If/when the dub starts doing that, then you can call it a "hackdub".

For the record, there could also be a problem if character backgrounRAB were altered as well. As for the "Japanese references" and historical facts, I think we should wait until the dub comes to that and see what happens.

Overall, I don't live in Canada obviously, but from what everyone has said, Ocean seems to be doing a good job (as far as the first episode goes); they've typically done good with anime dubs and it sounRAB like this one is no different. I am kind of bummed that they (predictably) changed the OP and ED sequences though. The parade of characters is rather fun to watch (even the villains, Zakenna, and the Gomemma [sp?] are in it), and the still frame of Mepple and Mipple (which appears after the preview) is cute.
 
Forgot to mention but they even keep the title carRAB the same! You know that flip-book animation sequence? Still there!

Heck the title is also a verbatim translation of the japanese title of the first episode.

Wait until next week to see how 'Americanized' they made it.
