Official Pretty Cure English Dub airs today! (with promo link)

On paper it doesn't sound horrible. They Americanized the names but kept everything else, like the test SGT. Frog dub FUNi was showing off some time ago.

Hey guys! I've actually wanted to post here too, but I've been in the moderation que for about a week, haha. Anyway, I just wanted to see what you guys are thinking of the dub so far, chat with the community, and maybe answer some questions you may have (within reason).

So yeah, I'm here if anyone wants to chat.

By the way, for those of you who don't know, I play Ferguson (Fujimura) as well as various other small roles in Pretty Cure.

What exactly are you talking about? Other than the name changes there's almost nothing you could call a "hack" dub. There aren't any edits outside of the OP and ED either.

Nice to meet you.

Anyway, I'm extremely disappointed with the decision to change the characters names. To me that just destroys the believability and realism, since they are in Japan. And the opening is kind of durab too.

But the voice acting isn't bad, and keeping the original music is always a plus.

I'm curious, why did they decide to change the names?

The thing is, if they Americanize the names they're going to Americanize other things as well. There's a lot of Japanese references and historical facts that are big parts of the story. How exactly are they going to handle it now?

On a Canadian children's cable channel. Not going to get a whole lot of the North American market there, unless they are hoping that it catches on in Canada and then someone in the States picks up.

Beggers can't be chosers, the only channel Toei found to air this was a Canadian children's cable channel, Canada's version of Nick, so its not like its hot title that's in demand. YTV can just show more Spongebob eps and get more ratings, the fact they bought this show is a bit of a risk.

Well, they kept the dog's name. But I think the only way Toei was able to sell this was to change the names. YTV is dumping all of their anime too, just like CN is. The only anime that isn't in the graveyard slots is heavily Americanized on CN, and YTV is fast approaching that point. So I think Toei did what they had to do to sell it.

Tell me how exactly the names of the main characters effect the story.

Heck they even kept the references in the last names, with "Natalie Blackstone". That's some pretty careful renaming if you ask me.

Well, I fansubbed the entire show and I approve of the dub so far.

The only other official dub I've been on is "Hunter x Hunter", which came out last Deceraber, and was released on DVD only. There are still a couple more box sets coming out. I play the characters of Nicholas (ep. 6-7), as well as Imori (throughout) and several other small characters (throughout).

I hope you guys all enjoy Pretty Cure episode 2!!

I am leaving for Jasper this morning for a ski trip all weekend, and probably won't be around to post until sometime Sunday evening. So I'll see you guys later!
