Don't bother.

You will just get a Smart Card Error.

Nothing you can do but wait the 7 tto 10 days, sorry.

Thanks for the response dosborne.

I've tried resetting it numerous times as well as calling tech support. This issue also happened with my 3 previous 3100 after approx 3 years - I don't think equipment should be made so poorly that they need to be replaced that often. So I was hoping when I purchased the 4100 my problems would be solved - but after some time the same thing happened. I understand it takes a few seconds, and most of the channels do show up after a few seconds, but when the problem occurs it's black for approx 30 seconds. This may be nitpicking to some, but it does get irritating. I'm just wondering if this happens to other people and if there is an easy fix for it other then calling tech support again and requesting another replacement.

I'm not certain about the 4100 but most of the other models featuring screensavers have an option in the menu called "inactivity standby" which can set the amount of time the receiver sits idle before going into the screensaver. you may also be able to disable it altogether in this menu. As far as I know most of the current selling models except the 6100 feature a screensaver.

I looked, but found nothing like an "inactivity timer" in the menu.

It occurred to me that dishnet customers in the US had likely encountered this, so I searched at tivocommunity.com. I found a workaround posted there - in the receiver, set up a timer to go off around 4AM everynight and set it to last 23 hours. I set this up last night, so I'll see how well it works.

The downside to this is that the receiver will change the channel at 4AM, so if the tivo is recording then, you'll get the wrong show. I typically don't record things at 4AM, so shouldn't be a big problem for me.

Unfortunately, a screen saver kicks in at 8-12 hrs of inactivity.

to record a future program with a vcr, create an event timer on a different channel, set it for 3 minutes prior to your planned recordings. that should work

Gd luck

Most sound problems (if well connected)----no sound---unsync sound etc. are solved by pressing the POWER button ON the receiver AND HELD for 8 seconds (NOT THE REMOTE)---this will reset the receiver.

It's not cheesy. It makes perfect sense. The remote controls your television channel and sound. If you want it to control the volume on your surround system then you will need to program the correct code on Aux.

If the same thing is happening to 4 receivers it is way beyond a coincidence. There is another reason for this happening.

I know of people using 3100's for many many years without any problems. I even know people using receivers that are from the "Dish Network Canada" era, so it is not an age issue at all.

What setup do you have.?

hello,
i purchased a defective (Brand New) 4100 from BEV )and yes i did pay the $50 for it. i already own a 5920 pvr that warks flawlessly) and i live in a MDU building.. most people said they wont work in my building (from this forum) and BEV offered me
a 3100 (refurbished) to relace it. does anyone have have any experiences with this model and or advice? i went back to the store and got a replacement 4100 (new and shocking) came home and it worked fine for an hour. after i called them to update my account and 10 minutes later the box went offline.. programming was gone.. what i did though later on was to remove the down converter and the box(4100) started to work again. deeper checking revealed that transponders 2,4,6,and 8 were not locking a signal but all others were. most of my programming is there (60%) but i opted for the the switch and wanted to let you guys know. most of the csrs dont know about any of this including the technicians who come to the house to do the install. there will be( so they say) an upgrade to most of the MDU builings by years end for those that do not have 82/hd ... who knows

None of the current or previous generation of Bell receivers have/had that ability, it was limited to some of the very early ones, the 2700, 4700 and maybe the 1000.

As I said, just program the remote correctly for the Surround Sound System using the AUX button and you should be fine.

Does anybody know why a wireless phone jack won't work with a 4100 receiver? The caller ID feature works the dial tone works but when you try to update the smart card it doesn't seem to work. I am using a DTX dual jack. The 3100 receivers lets you select a wireless jack but the 4100 receivers doesn't seem to have that selection on the menu under phone connection.

Do you use the Dolby Digital feature of the 4100? I think only the Movie Network channels broadcast in DD... do you experience momentary random audio dropouts (less than a second)?

Snoopy,

The 4100 only has one tuner so you can't tune to two channels at once. (i.e./ you can't watch one show and record another)

The use of a VCR with BEV is well documented in the Bev manuals and in existing threads in this forum so please reviewing the manual and then searching the forums for additional details..

Unit is activated, using my old 18" dish with dual lnb set up. Signal on both sats are 80-90 %. Haxe already tried the check switch. For some reason the time will not correct itself . Now I can't watch centre ice hockey because the clock at 7:00pm reads 12:00am on the 4100 ! My other unit set up perfectly clock fixed itself automatically after 12 hrs or so from original set up.
I see no mention of setting clock in the manual. Is there some time shift feature I accidentally enabled ? Must I call skydish to re set something on that specific unit ?

I think that is garbage. They don't send the audio and video out in separate streams, as far as I know.

You either get it or you don't.

Sorry, I can't help you.

Yup, just plug the receiver(s) into your phone line. I keep mine plugged in all of the time but you can plug in for a few hours as well.

The phone connection will never update the Smart Card.

If you are referring to the software on the 4100 receiver itself, just turn off the receiver, within a few minutes you will see an on screen message saying that important software is being downloaded. If you see nothing, then maybe the software is already up to date...

I agree with Pinza ... I have an old 2700 from 1999 that still works fine. My parents also have two 2700's from 2001 that are working fine as well. There must be something in your set-up causing the issue. What type of cable are you using? Is the cabling in the house (behind the walls) RG6 or RG59? That could be causing an issue.

I'm a new user having just switched from Rogers. I have a 2700 and two new 4100 receivers ($47 ea at Future Shop) that I installed. Signal strength is 90% on all receivers. When I connect using a 4 way switch (Sat Switch from Radio Shack) and only connect one receiver, all is well. When I connect a second receiver I suddenly lose all the odd number transponders. Could the switch be faulty or do I have another problem ? Cable run from the dish to the switch is 100' and then another 25' to each receiver.
Also, would grounding the cable from the dish help the problem. Currently its not.

thanks for any help
