I purchased a 4100 December 2005; the optical audio suffers from rather frequent audio dropouts, once every 5-10 minutes, although very short in nature, they are very annoying. I will switch from optical to analog and see if the problem persists.
Do any other ExpressVu units suffer the same optical audio glitch?

haven't scanned surround yet, what rec has ability to do both. that seems cheesy that you can't do both through one rem otherwise you have to keep changing sources to have true control?

Hi Everyone,

I purchased a 4100 receiver for my grandfather because he likes to get local Weather network reports via I t.v. and other features he enjoys. It has only been about 3 weeks old and already twice as he changed the channel, the screen went black, no picture no sound. I went over, because I thought he might of just hit tv/video but when I got there I tried the guide button, the guide came up o.k. but no sound or picture. I tried changing the channels, still nothing and this was a clear gorgeous day. Checked the signal, locked on Bell 91 and 89% strength.

I tried unplugging the receiver for a minute and tada... it worked! Both times, all it took was unplugging the receiver and it worked fine... the picture and sound came back!

Does this sound like a dud? Should I exchange it for another?

mine had the same problem. The 4100 is the model with thus when the audio is Dolby digital. It may be from interference from other electronics it is sitting close to (like sitting on top of a tv for example).

Changing channels via satellite takes a few seconds as the units have to switch transponders, satellites, etc.

Have you tried a reset to see if it helps? Push and hold the power button on the front of the receiver until it resets (about 10 seconds).

Switching over such a small issue without having tried much? You shouldn't be so wuick to give up, but the choice is yours.

The only thing I can think of that might have made the biggest difference is the picture "mode" I was in. I have Normal, Movie, Pro, and one other I can't think of right now.

I put it into PRO mode, which gave me much more saturated color, and then I worked with that for brightness, contrast, color, tint, etc.

In the end, I had a better picture. I can't really tell you why in a technical sense, but I'm satisfied with the picture now.

P.S. Sorry to take so long to answer you. :-(

As a follow-up to my previous post (optical audio suffers from audio dropouts): this does not happen with analog audio. As to the location of the unit, it sits in a rack all by itself.

Thanks Gouie: Do I just plug the 4100 into the phone line,or do I have to do something else? I just really noticed it yesterday, so maybe I will keep an eye on it in future! Should I have each of my receivers plugged into a phone line to obtain newer software updates, or just when I have trouble or order pay per view? I'm new to satellite! Thanks, Huck

Some times my 4100 loses audio, usally when i take the receiver out of the screen saver. Anyone else experienced this problem? It only seeems to happen with analogue audio - the optical is fine. I have contacted Bell and they tell me to reset the box. They did ask what channel i was watching last, but i could not remember - maybe its channel related?? They also asked if left the box where it could get hot (nope) of if i was doing things such as hiting the standby button a lot (nope). Does this activity sound familiar to anyone with a 4100 audio problem?

can i record a program using a regular vcr, and watch another program @ the same time. i have a 4100 receiver. i tried phoning bev, they having got a clue???? what his going on. vcr is working fine am able to record with no problem:confused:

It comes and goes. It happens so infrequently that I hardly notice it when just watching without looking for it.

For you, I'd get a new box.

I'm having problems with my new 4100 except I'm not convinced it's related directly to the 4100. I currently have a 3100, single LNB with dual outputs, ran two cables (RG6) to the units. Both cables, when tested on my 3100 show a signal strength of 83 on 91, but niether cable gives me a signal on the 4100, it just says 0 (all red bars). I have tried all transponders but there is nothing. Do I have to use a different satellite on my second receiver?

thx

Ya, but its happening on 3 boxes. Only one of them is new. Just called expressvu and they want me to check my signal to make sure its over 75%. I'l do that later tonight when i get home. They say the dish may have moved and they want $75 to come out and fix it. I say if the dish moved I would have no signal period and it was a bad install in the first place.

You would think with all of us having this problem they would have worked out the bugs. Then, sent out an update to fix the issue .

Plenty of stock in Winnipeg and they are actually selling them to existing customers at $49.99. In the past they have sold them to new subs at that price while existing had to pay the $99.99 price. There was no commitment on the pricing.

Wonder if BB made a mistake on the promo?

Hey folsk - I have 2 4100 series receivers. Recently I purchased one from a liquidator and hooked everything up to my home theater. Turns out it's older stock and requires the new smart card which will take 7-10 biz days to come in. I was wondering if removing the smart card from my older 4100 receiver and putting it into my newer one would cause any issue? Any experience from anyone?

Man! My t.v. really freeks out when they play that commercial for Hinterland-'Who's who". The picture jerks around so much, it's hard to watch! It is on channel 389 Wild T.V.. Anyone else seen it! Thanks, Huck
