Obama targets private jets, Big Oil

Even aside from a priori economic indications ..... only a moron could look at data like the following and conclude that treating every income level equally in the US tax policy would be a good idea.

That bottom 60% aren't in far more need of every break -- including tax breaks -- than the nation's highest earners.

Yep, re-read it again and see if you can find any reference to marginal utility not existing. i suppose you're going to take that post to mean i don't believe in gravity, fiat currency, evolution, swamps, the sky, or anything else that wasn't mentioned directly in my post?

I'm sorry you're so stupid today Karen. Are you having a stroke? Do you need me to call someone for you so they can take you to the hospital?

Given my salary (Y) and aggregate troll posts and smilies/year are converted into dollars (TROLL), in order to find my optimal consumption bundle of income and troll we must find the tangency of MU(Y, TROLL) with BC(Y, TROLL); this will be the point where I get the most silver dildos (I prefer silver dildos to utils). This assumes however that my U(Y, TROLL) is knowable. Are you up to the task for showing me what my optimal bundle of troll and income are, so I can get as many silver dildos as possible?
My happiness depenRAB on it, quite literally.

hence why i said maybe the rich should pay higher than their fair share. you're acting like this is some amazing new concept to me that is going to rock my world when in reality is has nothing to do with our conversation, i never implied anything different than what you're saying here, and most importantly marginal utility is a basic concept of economics which anyone that has taken even a beginner course in micro would understand, so it blows my mind that so many of you people are incapable of understanding it.

You're right, every dollar does have a higher marginal utility for a poor person. Hence why I really have no problem with a progressive tax system even though it is inherently unfair. And it is inherently unfair because, as is exactly happening, the rich pay more than their fair share of the taxes based on the national income. That is a FACT, you can argue around it all you like but it is a FACT.

Oh... maybe by doing what I said:
Which is relevant to the present, since some of the armchair economic-idiots in DIAC keep moronically bleating about treating everyone the same on taxes, as if there is no reason to put more effort into avoiding tax hikes for the bottom 60%, even if taxes may have to go up.

But in any case, libertarians like Milton Friedman have some great ideas on answers to your question, too.....
