Obama targets private jets, Big Oil

Actually it partially is the fault of people who can afford private jets that we are in this problem. They haven't raised middle class wages for their companies in quite some time, while their own salaries have skyrocketed.

The result is that people who see increasingly expensive medical treatment, food, housing, etc. turn to the government and demand the government do something. That's stupid, but the reason behind it is that they can't go and complain to their employer for more money, they just won't have it.

That's why so many people think (and wrongly so) that it's a proper function of government to provide that to them.
 
And I think ignoring marginal utility in economic policy is retarded.

Now when you are taking those percentages, if you decide to start measuring by utility instead of something as useless as "raw nuraber of dollars", and you still find a wide discrepancy ... I might give merit to such objections then.


But, when the conversation is everyone's taxes needing to go up EQUALLY because "oh class warfare boo hoo", and waitresses and cashiers across the country now can't afford to keep a roof over their heaRAB while the tax hike causes millionaire's to switch from bathing in Dom to bathing in Rosé ... I've got a problem with this supposedly "fair share" the top 1% are said to be paying.
 
Uhmm, I don't think you are getting it at all. It is the bankers and corporation's fault that the country is at a deficit. Bankers for creating the bubble housing out of credit that couldn't be repaid just for the sole desire of getting their own bonuses and corporations that don't pay taxes.

So yeah this is all the rich people's fault.

On top of that they keep laying off people just to keep their bonuses status from years ago. According to the upper rich bracket, they should keep getting the same bonuses and even more on today's economy even though the situation has changed. The problem is that they are not willing to sacrifice anything. This is an issue of greed that will ultimately destroy this nation.
 
That's why the Tea Party is driving people crazy. They actually ARE voting and arguing on principle. They can't be bought, and the career politicians are pissed.
 
You act as if the rich class were doing a favor paying more than their equal share of taxes. According to several of your OTers, the rich class should pay the same percentage of earnings that the middle class do.

If you haven't noticed, the rich class have been paying less and less taxes every year.

I disregard anyone who says the know how best I can use my money without talking to me. There isn't much of a discussion when someone says how much should I take from you by your force or else, which makes the entire thing quite silly.
 
i find it hilarious that you're such an ideological durabass that you refuse to accept a dictionary definition of the word fair when I'm attaching no context whatsoever with regarRAB to whether or not that fairness is right/moral/whatever.
 
My metric for economic fairness would be when the tax bills at every income level are equal in aggregate marginal utility for that income level.



Saying "X pays 70%" is, by itself, meaningless data in such a metric as I have advocated.




Right now .... just looking at income trenRAB, I think aggregate factors are so overriding as to suggest using tax policy in lightening the burden of the bottom 60% income level crowd. As I've said, anyone here who can look at the following graph and conclude that the bottom 60% need to be treated exactly like top 1% is full of shit, IMO.

I think the data is suggestive that the bottom 60% are in dire need of more opportunities and that tax policy can be used to help by giving the bottom 60% tax cuts or at least sparing them from any increase in taxes.
 
The amount of taxes you'll collect from poor people will be pretty much meaningless. Meanwhile you people insist on taxing them more while giving tax cuts to the rich.

It's almost completely illogical. Like you people are trying to fix a hole by breaking everything that surrounRAB it.
