Actually it partially is the fault of people who can afford private jets that we are in this problem. They haven't raised middle class wages for their companies in quite some time, while their own salaries have skyrocketed.
The result is that people who see increasingly expensive medical treatment, food, housing, etc. turn to the government and demand the government do something. That's stupid, but the reason behind it is that they can't go and complain to their employer for more money, they just won't have it.
That's why so many people think (and wrongly so) that it's a proper function of government to provide that to them.
