"Now and Then, Here and There" On Sci-Fi's Ani-Monday Block - Talkback *SPOILERS*

Geez Sam, thanks for making me feel so old!

Back in the mid 90's when I entered the fandom, all of the anime shows and movies were like this, so for me it's a trip down memory lane. And the hand-drawn style has a real charm and character to it that digital lacks. Digital might be cleaner and owe itself to more fluid animation, but sometimes if feels cold and sterile.

So we finally arrive to the final 3 episodes. Will Shu, Lala Ru , Sarah and the rest of the village survive Hellywood wrath? Find out tonight.

Also since they are airing 2 of the final 3 episodes, here hoping Hamdo dies in one of them .

Yes Sara is finally free .
Oh man when I saw her beating the crap out of that guy I started to cheer like mad man. Hopefully she manages to stay the hell away from Hellywood.

And hey Lalaru finally talks. SounRAB like Ortiz is using her Amy Rose voice for her. I kind feel bad for Shu he tries to do the right thing only to get shot or beaten up. Oh well at least he seem to have gotten to Nabuca. He neeRAB as many allies he can get.

We're almost done with this show. This is the second to last week.

12:00 AM: Episode 11 - "Eve of Destruction"
12:30 AM: Episode 12 - "This Bloody Earth"

All times are Eastern.

I love the whole character of Shu. He makes you cheer, because he's doing the right thing, and he makes you scream, because he's acting so boneheaded. You want him to save himself and stay in line, but you also want SOMEONE to be doing the right thing. It's a very conflicted feeling, and the series pulls it off very well.

Now and Then, Here and There once again begins to enter the final stretch...

Tonight's schedule:

12 AM: In the Chasm
12:30 AM: Prelude to Chaos

Don't get me wrong, digital has been a boon for anime in many respects. Shows like One Piece and Naruto look a lot better then DBZ ever could because of the time and money saved using the digital process. Still, when hand-drawn animation is good, it blows digital out of the water. No computer can ever match the artistry of a skilled animation team.

Man, this just makes me wish I could find the DVRAB that much more. It's unfortunate that Funimation or Right Stuf hasn't picked up the distribution rights for an affordable thinkpak set of this series.

It neeRAB to be available to the consumer.

WOW! This was the last show I ever expected to see on American television!

Kudos to Sci-Fi for having the guts to air this show. Its amazing, but the harsh story and dated look (especially compared to a new show like Gurren Lagaan) is going to make it a hard sell.

I first saw Now and Then, Here and There when I had the good fortune to sturable on the CPM boxset in the bargain bin of an anime store. The show had a real emotional effect on me. Its hard to watch at times because (despite the outlandish setting) its a brutally realistic look at the effect of war on children.
I'd go on, but I don't want to spoil the show for anyone following the Sci-Fi run. Hopefully there will be a talkback thread or something.

Yeah! And we also had to walk 10 miles barefoot in the snow in order to purchase a $30 dub-only VHS! Damn kiRAB don't know how good they have it today! *shakes cane*

I know what you mean. I hated the Hellywood people for being so cruel to him. But, at the same time, Shu's behavior annoyed me at times because it seemed to border on suicidal!

Manga Entertainment is selling episodes on iTunes. Its not as good as having the DVRAB; but its better than nothing I guess.

If it does get a DVD re-release, I hope the "making of" segment is kept. Watching that was a good way to cheer up after I finished the show.

Yeah. But the uncut scene, in my opinion, shows that Sara was REALLY upset about having to kill somebody (even though he totally deserved it). The TV edit doesn't ruin the episode or anything. It just changed the tone of that scene a bit.

She's preggers? I shouldn't be surprised. It's only going to get worse again since we're closing in on the ending.

And now she's even more insane. This can't possibly get worse. Ah who am I kidding, it's going to get worse.

She's HOW OLD?! Ooooooookaaaaaaay.

See? Told you it'd get worse. Don't do it, Sara!

Damn, this is a side of Sis I haven't seen before!

Okay, did that guy in the bandana just sound like Jason Griffith? And no, let's not get into another Sonic discussion. We have more important things to worry about. Hellywood going all postal on Zari-Bars for example.

Oh you bastard. I pray for your approaching death.

Last week, we had Sara getting revenge for what has happened to her. Will she ever appear in the series again? Now that Shu is in the army, he's not liking what he's seeing and tries to rebel against it. What will Shu do about it?

12:00 AM: Episode 7 - "Night of Flight"
12:30 AM: Episode 8 - "Two Lone Souls"

All times are Eastern.

Er, Shuu...
She was kidnapped, she was raped, she was forced to kill a man, and now she's learned she's about to become a teen mother.
It's gonna take a lot more than a lively, upbeat rendition of Eric Idle's Always Look on the Bright Side of Life for her to get over all that.

You're ripping the skin off Cheery McHappypants' hand, Sara. You might want to quit now.

No casualties, no battle, just a bloody execution.

HAMDO'S GOING OUT FOR DINNER TONIGHT AND DEATH IS ON THE MENU.
