Nokia X6

Well I think I have decided to get an HTC Hero instead of the X6. I just don't have very much love left for Symbian anymore... I hope I am not making a decision I will regret.

Wirelessly posted (nokia n97: Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.4; Series60/5.0 NokiaN97-3/21.2.045; Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1) AppleWebKit/525 (KHTML, like Gecko) BrowserNG/7.1.4)

That bug with the battery and time is a bugger, and I get it often since I swap the SIM witth my N97 a bunch.

I'm in agreement that T9 typing is a lot bettert than the landscape keyboard. It seems to slip letters in the landscape keyboard, which really sucks when inserting passwords.

I dig the speakers moreso now than when I originally pulled it out of the box. The lower volume levels are especially nice when I do my nightly Mobbler/last.fm streaming.

Compared to my N97 it feels more phone than smartphone. I'd love to have Nokia Bots for it, and give the contacts carousel to my N97. Its really solid, and I'm becoming more and more comfortable with using it for outings after my work day - its not a workday mobile for me at this point.

been using it since yesterday and I'm neither disappointed nor impressed. In coming from an n95 and an n900, the touch keyboard definitely has a learning curve. Having both the portrait t9 and landscape keyboard is very helpful. I'll post more after a weekend of using the handset.

less stable than other 5th edition devices?so you're using on with whatever the latest firmware is and it's slower than the other 5th edition devices?

That browser problem in the Youtube video I have no encounter myself when using it. My fiance runs Facebook on there and she does a lot of browsing and she seems to have no problems either. Just need to let the browser fully load before you start doing anything to the screen.

that Nokia X6 on Newegg is sold out!!!! I wanted to buy another one for myself. If I can't jump on a good deal with the X6, I'll wait for the N8 to come out...hopefully soon cause I'm itching. Using my Fiance's BB 9700 is no fun.

The Ovi Maps on v20 firmware is really nice and the menu is easy to use. Nokia took away Contacts routing on the map, but I read on Nokia forums that they will bring it back in the next version. But that's ok, I can search my Contacts address and just type it in. Not a big deal for me.

BTW, I've been using SPB Shell 3.5 for over a week and seems the Nokia X6 is lacking from memory running that program. At most I can only open two programs, mostly ThreadSMS and Nokia Messaging. If I run a third application, it would probably kick me out or give me that Low Memory Error. SPB Mobile Shell is a great add on to the X6, but if the low error can get annoying at times. Skyfire will definately not run at all with Mobile Shell running and sometimes when I activate the Camera, all I get is a big black screen. I have to reboot the phone and it would work. So be careful if you're planning to get SPB Mobile Shell installed.

No doubt a nice phone. However, I prefer the black one. I also wonder why they are still selling the black at the $350 or so price. I guess they must have a lot of yellow. I also read somewhere that Nokia has discontinued this phone. if true, that is kind of quick!

Never noticed, but will have to push it more to see those. Its been quite a bit faster and stable for me compared to the N97 at v12; and definitely better compared to N97's current FW.

i don't believe that i did, what is the 300 deal?

I like the phone a lot so far, still not perfect but I'm just happy to have a larger screen than my n95. the screen goes dim in sunlight which does make it nearly impossible to see.

Not many changes, Ovi maps updated, Web now full screen by default and some fix in the music player. Thats all we got on unbranded Uk product code anyway.

They discontinued the N85 and the N86 less than a year after they released it, at least the X6 is still on the Nokia USA web site inventory.

As for black I am sick of all black phones, I am so glad that the N8 has some colored versions to it, can not wait to get my hands on a orange phone, even the N1 I had was boring and lacked any kind of zip at all!!!!:wow:

Hi guys,

this is my first post here.

I am going to buy one from Nokia 5800 and X6(16Gb).

But I never used touchscreen mobile before and I have a fancy for using stylus(specially for surfing and scrolling those tiny scroll bars in browser).

My inclination was initially towards 5800 based on a few things I read here -

- Full QWERTY view in 5800 allows you to type in more than 2 text lines at same time. This is important for sending long SMS text, which spans more than 5 lines. X6 lacks this and Qwerty in X6 allows only 2 lines on screen at a time and hides sms text view during typing in text.

- 5800 has firmware updates which solves hanging issues, also brings Arm processor to same speed as in X6, by overclocking.

But now after reading about X6 on this thread, I am having a double mind.

- Nice 16Gb Internal storage in X6, scores better because it will be accessed faster than micro-SD card(8gb) in 5800?

- Better quality headset(WH-700) compared to those given in 5800 box.

Guys, I have two questions.

1. Which is more stable and solid in multitasking, web browsing. For me, its important that I can surf net in Opera mini as well as attend calls and send, receive SMS during that. This would be enough but must not crash.

2. Which is better? Stylus or finger touch? I have doubts about X6 because it leaves me with no other option.

thanks, I would be running on monday to get one.

That's right. 128MB RAM is not good for S60v5. If you do multi tasking & keen on having S60v5, then I suggest i8910 or Satio.

The FW I tried was V12.

I never owned an all-touch phone before, and i bought a Nokia X6 last week (got it thursday) and i've been using it since. I'm coming from a Nokia N85 and i LOVE the X6.

One of my biggest thing on the X6 is the touch screen. I live in NYC and i'm one to visit the Nokia store at least once a month and check out all the phones they have. Well i could NEVER use the 5800 because of it's touch screen. You have to literally press down (kind of pretty hard) on the 5800's screen for it to recognize a touch. With the X6 i sometimes don't even feel that i touched the screen - but the phone actually registers a touch, so i love the screen.
Another thing that i realized from playing with the phones in the store is that the 5800's overall system just seems much slower than going through menus on the X6.

Browsing on the X6 seems faster to me than on the N85. Even though - the reason i came to this thread right now is, i was going to ask, since the update V20 a few days ago, i noticed that when i start the browser it's blank and the loading bar doesn't show up at all up until the page is almost loaded completely.

I've read that people say multitasking on the X6 is not as good because it runs out of memory? Never ran into the problem i can run the music player the browser and messaging and photo gallery at the same time and it's fast to me..
I was also thinking of getting a stylus for the X6, but while browsing, even if i'm zoomed out all the way in facebook or mail and i go for a certain very small link on the screen - i never get taken to the wrong link - well very rarely but if you click on it again you'll be fine..

Camera seems nice - my youtube link, i took the X6 to a club and took some videos - ludacris was performing, there's 3 different vids of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctUh6Q4lYBo
I think that's a pretty f'in amazing camera for a phone.

This phone is currently on sale at Dell for $280 (plus tax and shipping).

Personally I'm going to pass, but just passing the info along for anyone that has been waiting for a price drop on this phone... :)
