Yes you are probably right. I seem to recall that T9 was available while typing an URL. Now it is just like in Opera Mini. Not a big deal for me though, I usually turn it off while typing things like that.
My X6 16GB NAM model doesn't show any update for Ovi Maps - still on v3.04 10wk17 b07. I've checked for updates using the phone's SW Update app and by going through Ovi Suite - no luck either way.
Can anyone with an X6 discuss how smooth browsing works? In this video, around the 6:20-6:30 mark, the guy tries to browse but even though he slides his finger across the screen, the response is terrible. Is this common or maybe this kid's just got greasy fingers? Thanks.
Btw, it has a gorgeous screen. Battery last the longest on any of the Nokias that I have owned. It has the typical S60V5 memory leakage but not as bad as the 5800 when I used that phone. So with future FW it will only get better. Now if Hava only could make a S60V5 player everything would be hunky dory. I am using my N86 today so I can watch Champions League football at work (Manu v Bayer Munich)
Internal hardware-wise, it's the same phone as the N97. Same ARM 11 434 MHz processor, same 128 MB of RAM, same 5 megapixel camera, same S60v5. You lose the keyboard and the better build quality, and you gain the capacitive screen and the cheaper plastics.
There is nothing wrong with the build quality and regardless if the hardware is the same the N97 the experience is not the same, I have not been able to get the phone to choke due to low ram. I was having a live text feed from Manchester United v Bayer Munich using Opera Mini and at the same time I installed the ESPN Soccernet widget from the Ovi Store while receiving emails and texts and posting to the 606 forum on BBC.
well put, this is the exact reason why I am disappointed by my n900, it doesn't do enough of what I need it to do but looks great on paper. Fanboys, haters and 'know it alls' make for good conversation but owners please tell if the x6 is any better or worse than the current crop of v5 handsets.
Sounds like an updated WebKit browser. Any app or widget that depends on Webkit would also inherit the performance improvements of the new browser version.
You Can dl the new ovi maps yourself from nokia blog they're in beta still with a few bugs but it is an improvement. I'm not updating my fw since they say there is no mini qwerty with swype in the latest update and that's the only way I've been inputting since i got swype because it's way better than a virtual keyboard.
After 2 weeks of hard use of the X6, its easily the best S50V5 phone out. I had the 5800 NAM, have the N97, returned the N97 Mini and now the X6. My buddy had the OmniaHD and returned it so I only got to use it for a little so I can't really comment on it.
Touch experience is much better & accurate than N97 due to capacitive screen. 5MP cam takes same quality pics as in N97. But, speakers are much better than N97.. they are as good as 5800/N95 speakers. Low RAM issue is same as in N97. Feels cheap in hand due to cheap material used. However build quality is good. I was disappointed to see that Nokia used the 2 yeard old AC adaptor(used in N95 & pre models) on this phone. I am not sure why they didn't make use of that micro USB for charging?
If you're on v 20.2.005 and like Swype, don't upgrade. I did, and wish I could downgrade back. v21 brought some tiny changes, but nothing worth the loss of the mini-QWERTY keyboard. I've e-mailed Nokia asking them to add it back into the next X6 firmware, but I doubt they will do it. If you like mini-QWERTY, please e-mail Nokia to ask them to add it back to the next firmware. Thanks.
