+ Nokia N95; Carl Zeiss; Tessar Optic; 5 MPX - Video and Image Samples

I agree with the reviewer about the N90. Full screen on a PC the Pictures from my N73 look better, but when you print them out on photo paper or reduce the size to say 800X600 the N90s look better. They just have better colour balance and are more even.

Because Photoshop clearly shows how the N73 obtains the false sense of 'sharpness'. I was never comparing ready to print pictures, why do you continue to pick at things I never said or mentioned?

That's great. I'm not concerned about the LG/SE's images. I've never used them in any comparison for the N73's image quality.

Who knows? I'm not concerned about the K800 and LG's images. I never was. I dont' even know why they were ever brought into this conversation. I never once commented on cross comparison. Frankly, I don't care what the SE and LG images look like.

Who knows? Who cares? I don't care. I don't even think LG and SE image tests should be in this thread. Heck, I don't even know why the N73 was even brought up. From the thread title, we were talking about the N95, and someone had to go post images and comment on the N73 and whatever this and that about a blueish haze.

Show me these good N90 images you speak of...

There you go again by putting words in my mouth. I never said I was a pro photographer. No you didn't insult me at all.

Sure that makes sense.

If you would recall, the original discussion was about the N95. The SE and LG have nothing to do with this. My original point was, if Nokia couldn't perfect 3.2mpixels, why go to 5mpixels? Answer that. Don't sidestep the question by comparing the N73 images to the SE and LG.

What do you want to hear from me? Yes, the LG image is blurry, yes the SE image is greyish and dark. But I don't care about that. If we were doing a real comparison, we'd friggin compare the N73 to EVERY ******* CAMERA PHONE ON THE PLANET, not limiting ourselves to just two, wouldn't you agree? If we were doing a real comparison, Phil Askey would be doing it, not some cellular review website.

------------------------------------

What it boils down to is this.

The 5mpixel N95 was not needed. There are many drawbacks to going 5mpixel, without improved image quality (as seen from the N95 samples from the OP). I believed someone mentioned that you can go to a lower resolution, and yes, he/she is right, but most of the time you're not given that many settings (anyone care to share how many are on the N95?)

Bottom line, N73 has flaws in it's images. What _I_ think Nokia should've done was improve on the N73's 3.2mpixel, before stepping upto the large 5mpixel.

I suspect the reasoning Nokia did this was to tout that they had a 5mpixel camera phone more than anything, which is the wrong way to approach things. Playing into the consumer's minds that more megapixels is better, which it absolutely is not.

I am an amateur/pro photographer & have many cameras that are, of course, MUCH better than the quality of the N95 or any camera phone. But, they are too large to carry with me ALL the time. Have you ever heard the saying "The best camera is the one that you have with you"? It's true. So I like having a high quality camera phone so I'll never miss any once-in-a-lifetime shots (i've got an N73). The quality of the N95's photos may not be much better than the N73, but those 2 extra megapixels give me just that much more information that I can use to fix a photo in Photoshop. My wife's 2 megapixel SE W810 technically takes better pictures than my N73, but I can't blow them up like I can with the N73. I can't wait for the N95 & it's 5 megapixels + VGA video (I can't believe SE is still putting QCIF in all theirs).

indeed, who really brings their digicam out like everyday? i m not saying that no one does, but not alot i m sure. digicams are really only good for trips and "special events".

Anyways ORK, if you wanted to compare the N73 with the K800i, I can tell you that they are pretty different in terms of image quality. If you wanted overprocessing and seemingly "better" pictures with richer colour, then the N73 wins hands down. I used to own the N73 and I actually thought that the pics were quite good, but I am one of those people that can't stand overprocessing of pictures since it removes detail and sacrifices colour reproduction. Others don't think this way, so in that case you would prefer the N73. That is personal opinion.

As for a "pinkish" haze on the K800i, you are actually the first person that I have heard from to mention that, or to even point it out. I've heard criticisms of the K800i producing "washed out" photos in comparison to the N73, and to that I don't disagree, but you gain better colour reproduction and less image processing inherent in the N73, so that's something again that's personal preference.

Going back to the pinkish haze, I see what you mean from that Mini picture, but it seems more of the fact that there is not enough lighting (possibly a hazy day) as opposed to there actually being pinkish haze in the actual photo. The fact that this "pinkish" haze is not seen in other K800i photos seem to support this theory. On the other hand, the bluish haze on the N73 is pronounced in just about every single picture that the N73 produces.

And I agree with B00rt about the 5 MP camera. They should've just tried to perfect their 3.2 MP camera, improve their image processing algorithm and remove the bluish haze before moving on. But then again, the average consumer just looks at 5 MP and expect there to be a 2 MP improvement. Unfortuantely, it just doesn't work that way.

My point is, why go with a 5mpixel sensor then? Why not perfect a 3.2mpixel image before moving on?

Judging from the samples, the 5mpixel does not bring the following to the table:
1) More clairty
2) Less noise
3) Less file space for the actual image
4) Less processing time after shutter release (I only speculate)

There could be other reasons behind the higher resolution sensor (possibly because the CMOS sensor producers only offers a 5mpixel that can do 30fps VGA) I'm sure it's not the sensor's fault for such bad pictures!

I was just reiterating what the OP was talking about :P

We can debate the other merits of the phone in another thread!

I am impressed with the pics with N95 & glad that the pics are not same as N73's. N95 pics are bit detailed than N73.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I am in the exact same boat as you. I only bring my prosumer camera out to a special event or if actually am going out with the intent to shoot photos. It's too big to take out/carry around on a daily basis. Meanwhile my N73 goes with me everywhere except the shower, and therefore is always ready. The photos I take with it are never going on my wall, like some of my other shots, but they are good enough for regular 4x6 or 5x7 prints (daylight), and decent enough to capture the memory of something going on (hanging out with friends, partying, etc.,) for night shots.

Thanks for the link OP, however, I wonder if the numeric key pad has light grow when it's open/dial? I saw the grow light on the mp3 bottons on the top, but didn't see the light on the number keys... can someone verify this?

I think this goes back to the thread jonny created about never being satisfied, i mean geez we named 2 phone that might take better pics or do take better pics, then how do the sharp phones and lg compare overall to the n95 as a phone, i have the n73 and i dont see a blueish haze maype im color blind lol.

these are from the n73 various pics , where is the blueish haze

I find such statements absurdish, so that means that Sony Ericsson must try to perfect and improve their 3.2 before they release 5 mpixels or more? I gues that will take ages. And do you think that LG's 3 mpixels was so perfect that now they started to make 5 mpixels? Why such lame statements aply only to Nokia? I told you guys, try to take your Sony Ericsson glasses of, i guess it's impossible..
As for mini pictures, haha,'not enough lighting', see, now you are making up excuses for K800, then why N73 did better then competition?
And why don't you make those excuses for Nokia too?

As for pink (actually, it's more red) in K800, take a look here, at trees
