Nokia N76 Announced!!!!

I had an interesting conversation with some of the Nokia guys RE: the N75. They had generic firmware/branded phones on display which they say have tested for the last couple of months with none of these problems the Cingular testers are experiencing (like lockups, etc.). It seems to be the Cingular versions that are having all problems. There is a definite frustration with Cingular from most all the guys I talked too. When I first started talking with them, they were very diplomatic. But as we started to build a rapor, their true feelings came out. Most are tired of the way Cingular constantly drags their feet with every S60 release. They pointed out the 6620 as an example.....ATTWS and Rogers had no problems during the testing but Cingular did.

I have a feeling that they are adding 2100 UMTS in addition to 850/1900. I know it doesn't say that in the Phonescoop release, but I'll wait until tomorrow to get the official specs. Hopefully I'm right.

Give it up Rcadden, the U.S. is chump change for Nokia since they only have two carriers to play with, compared to the countless other GSM/UMTS networks everywhere else in the world. I've accepted that the U.S. market must take crumbs from Nokia USA and say "thank you". That's why 98% of us in this forum have imported phones since we don't "listen to the man".

I definitely like the feel and look of the N75 compared to the N76 when I played around with them side by side.

The phone will be showing up in the UK and Australia by the end of the month or early next month. They wouldn't confirm the provider, but hinted at Vodafone.

well let's cut nokia some slack. Cingular's 3G isn't up across the boards and is still being developed. Tmobile's is pretty much non existant, and there is a lot of year left. I think Nokia kept trying to make carrier specials for Cingular and simply got frustrated.

SE doesn't really make an american phone that they can't push through the carriers as they know the american market wont buy it (in bulk) if it doesn't have some sort of branding on it. Nokia is at least trying to get some of their phones through the carriers, but it's not looking that great. Maybe they will eventually give up and go the way of HTC, they would get more product out .

From what I have read, it looks like this phone will be a Vodafone model.

I wonder why they didn't up the specs to be equal with the 6290 (FP3, standard USB port, etc.)

I was totally thinking there'd be no way the N76 would have 7 bands, and it's for sure now:

WCDMA 2100
EGSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

Hope that N75 shows up quick...

Aren't Tmobile and Nokia teaming together to deploy tmobile's 3G solution? I wonder how much back office politics are involved? Tmobile hasn't released a S60 device (they should), but maybe Nokia figures it has an out if they get too frustrated?

Previous S60 Devices in order from Tmobile....

N-Gage
3650
N-Gage QD
3660
6620

ALL extinct so its pretty safe to hope Tmobile will again have another S60 device.

Blazer, even though you've held both and me nothing, I still doubt your info. I know of the press release for Autrailia's network going 3G with GSM and having Nokia on board. But is the Moto V6Maxx is any hint (having 3G on 1900Mhz only as that network only has that) its likely teh N75 is more suited with QuadBand GSM/GPRS/EDGE with Dualband 3G 850/1900Mhz when the N76 has NIETHER 3G bands for North America its just for a European release much like its 6290 forefather.

Remember kids the 6290 & N76 have the same OS Symbian 9.2!
N75 is still based on Symbian OS 9.1a. 9.2 was meant to be controlled from external screen while OS 9.1a their doing patch work.

What else would you expect them to say? But facts is facts. And the facts is, T-Mobile also has no Series 60 devices, so it ain't just cingularIf Nokia had Series 60 together, such problems from adding hard-links shouldn't be possibleNokia couldn't even get CDMA working, despite TWO technology partnerships to try to; they have a recent history of failure.Oh, but sure, go ahead and blame Cingular, because it could never be that the bug is in the actual hardware or software, when one can blame a carrier instead!

If their was a hardware problem it would show up for the unbranded versions as well as the Cingular versions. Cingular has always dragged their feet with Nokia S60 going back to the 3650 which was quickly dumped for the 3660. They were the last carrier to finally release the 6620. And when the 6682 was released, they had to recall them. Did they recall the 6680 and 6681? No. It's always Cingular.

Blazer, that post strikes me as very misleading. Would you mind terribly responding to these point-by-point?Does T-Mobile have any current Series 60 phones in their line-up (on their website)? (Answer:NO. Three Series 40 and lower phones.)Does Sprint PCS have any Nokia Series 60 Phones? (Answer: NO. Wrong technology of course. No Nokia phones at all!)Does Verizon have any Nokia Series 60 phones on their CDMA plans? (Answer: NO. Nokia failed in last year's attempt to enter the CDMA market. They only have the older 6215 made by Pantech.)Does Alltel have any Series 60 phones, or indeed coverage, in the major U.S. metro areas? Answer: NO. They only have the 2865i, an older low-end phone.Does that make Cingular the only U.S. carrier with a Series 60 Nokia phone (in the E62)? (Answer: Yes)Is Cingular tied for most Nokia phones including below Series 60 on U.S. Carriers? (Answer: Yes, 3 each for Cingular and T-Mobile)So by what metric are you declaring that only Cingular has Nokia/Series 60 problems? Nobody else even attempts it!
None of that proves the problem is with Nokia rather than Cingular. The reason I believe Nokia is at fault is that Cingular doesn't have these troubles with LG, Samsung, etc., because the testers I heard from in December didn't mention any branding but instead indicated the phone simply locked up randomly which indicates to me a stability problem rather than an added-software issue, and because if Series 60 and the phone were half as good as Nokia claims, Cingular adding their "Mall" links couldn't possible hose it.

T-Mobile USA is pretty much non-existent, but T-Mobile is a huge company outside of the US. I remember reading an article that said Nokia will be working with T-Mobile USA more closely this year in regards to their marketing and development of phones, which means we will probably see s60's with 1700 UMTS for T-Mobile USA (with luck).

And I found the article. http://www.infoworld.com/article/06/11/27/HNtmobile3g_1.html
