Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

like collegea said, just run the setup wizard again and select the internet option and it should set up the access point for you. Then set every thing to use the internet destination and you should be good.

so far after installing everything i need (well i think i'm missing some stuff) my C: is at 62.5 mb (this is after the 3.04 maps w/o share location). and my ram sits at 47 mb even after heavy use. best firmware i've had so far. sometimes it takes a little while to open the menu, like waiting an extra second. but that's it. seems like he has something running that boosts ram by closing the menu and other stuff like i had to do in my n97 all the time.

Yes of course you can. Why wouldn't you?

Can someone suggest how the bloody heck, do I teach the vocabulary to use NORMAL suggestions instead of STUPID ones???

Everytime I type you, I get yot???
Everytime I type she, I get phd???

Just as an example. There are about a dozen other words I routinely txt that come up as alternative meaningless suggestions.

I've never see a dictionary ever be as stupid as this 5800's. It suggests thee DUMBEST words I've ever seen in a cell. Frankly it's so insultingly delicious I'm besides myself.

Nokia blows chunks.

Camera sucks. No Macro. Texting sucks. 1-touch dialing is silly...Oii vei...Oh and no VOIP/SIP built-in client...Sigh....eventhough it supports a SIP Stack. How STUPID.

The lack of arrows in the 'insert new word to vocabulary' is annoying also because if you're entering a long word, you have to fiddle with your finger tip or fat finger pads before you can position the cursor in the right spot LOL. Sigh...so annoying LOL.

it's like that for almost all touch screens. just gotta deal with it. if you use a white background. it helps a lot. but i think it drains your battery faster as well

Ok I finally decided to download the Ovi Maps update with free navigation from the auto updates app. I have always used google maps in the past, but a friend of mine who owns the nav edition said that ovi maps is really good.

I simple went to the "App. update", unchecked the other updates that I didn't want right now, and started the update for Ovi Maps (I believe it's v3.03)

The download and installation went fine, and I opened up the app and went to my location and everything seems fine. Before I installed Ovi Maps, I got a message that said something like "your maps are not compatible with this new version of Ovi Maps" and asked me if I wanted to delete them. I said yes, and the installation continued. I'm not sure if I made the right call then.

Here are a few questions:

1. Did I do the installation right by having old maps deleted?
2. What maps were included in the download? (I only need the US and maybe Mexico)
3. Before the install I had 42.8 MB in C: and now I have 28.5 MB. Is that right? Why does it take up so much memory?
4. What did it install on my memory card?

Oh and a general question is ...

How much memory do you have in your C:? How much free space is good to have in C:?

i just tried it. with the new opera mini that makes the kinetic scrolling even faster. took like 30 seconds to scroll to half the page. iono wasn't that bad to me.

maybe it's your OTA settings. mine shows up. and if i use navifirm, it shows it as well. so it's available for sure.

i just haven't upgraded since i'm running cfw. gonna have to look for another one for the update

cool, glad to hear. i had to change the equalizer settings as most of my songs have a lot of bass. but i don't use the speakers that often. i have the bt headphones, and they are absolutely great with this phone.

Question to the 5800 owners.. Did the latest FW improve camera quality? When I tried with the initial FW I found it to be the worst. 3+ year old N73 used to take better pics than this. Surprisingly X6 pics are as good as any N series 5MP cam phones.

Yes it also does that. But it may add features that are in the new firmware that don't get used until you do a hard reset.

You can backup your defaults and contacts and restore them after the hard reset. Only reinstalling all the apps and their settings is a PITA.

yea i'd just dl it. you can get anything from the net nowadays. but if you were looking, it's on a mini-dvd disc. might have missed that if you were looking for the full size one
