Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

it works for me, maybe you're just not pressing it at the exact right location. Try using the stylus or your fingernail. Don't you love resistive touch screens? :)

OK well i got my 5800. and i am surprisingly liking it so far. i guess i knew what to expect a bit. but i see the scrolling/touch input problem, where it doesnt register your touch completely. i'm trying to figure it out, cause i have enormous thumbs. my fingernail or stylus works fine.

anyway, i heard about the speaker distortion when playing music at max volume. it seems my phone has this problem as well. can you guys explain to me exactly how bad this is on your 5800? i am only playing the music that came with the memory card, if that helps to reduce the variables here. this is DEFINITELY a defect. anyone who says otherwise has not used all the other Nseries and nokia phones. because my n95 speakers did not distort at max volume AT ALL. even my trusty nokia 6131 with its mono speaker blasts music at max volume with no distortion. do i have a defect, or are all 5800's bad like this?

otherwise, i'm really liking the browser and google maps. and i'm loving t9 again. let's see how i feel after a full day of using this phone. i'm kinda disappointed in the speaker, cause all i wanted was a good quality MUSIC phone with speaker quality like my n95.

Let's wait till Android marketshare is close to Symbian.
Nokia does not communicate?Well, may be.Does Apple communicate?
P.S. Sorry for the 1-liner and try not to get personal and rude.

The answer is that there isn't one available online. You have to have it from an original back up of your phone (which, obviously, you don't have...).

You might try asking them at Quickoffice.com if they will pretty-please send you a copy, but do note that it will be tied to the IMEI of your phone, which you will have to enter as part of the process. I've used the product since my Handspring days, and they are very easy people to deal with.

yea, by custom we mean the latter points that you pointed out. we're only able to do small changes and not completely rewrite everything. however those changes significantly increase the phones performance as well as lets the user customize the phone to their tastes.

you can find more info at dailymobile.se

Weird, skomes. I OTAed my Dell-purchased 5800 the other day no problem. Well, the first time around it didn't install (apparently) because of a corrupted download, but when I tried it again it worked fine.

Group--Im not sure if this is an app upcoming (s60v5) but im looking for a video editor for the 5800. Ive made a few vids in camcorder mode and wanted to create transitions with title screen, fade in/out, etc....Are we still waiting or is there something that works from s60v3?? Just askin...Tom

When using the Contacts Bar home screen theme go to, Menu, Settings, Personal, Home screen, Home screen, then check both Contacts bar & Shortcuts.

This only works with v40 firmware.

@ tolechka12,

I'm not clear on what you meant by "PC Internet" connection?

If you mean connect the phone to the net using the same connection your PC uses (Cable modem, DSL) so you can avoid carrier data charges, then you can use WiFi, provided you have a wireless router (or get one).

If you mean using your phone as an internet gateway for your PC, then you can do that with Nokia's PC Suite. However, the 5800 does not fully support T-Mobile's 3G frequencies, so you will likely be limited to Edge speeds (slow).

You don't know that. All you know is it works ok for you. You don't know what you're missing until you do a hard reset after flashing. The only way to get 100% of the new function of new firmware is to hard reset.

oh ok, cause on your screenshot it recommended to do a higher test. usually when i do the 1mb test, it doesn't show that at the end.

my ram now without turning off the phone dropped a little bit to 40 mb, which is still tons better than the original firmware (it would have been like 34 or something by now lol). i'm using the v.40 cfw since there's no v.50 for the nam's yet

Yes the screen scratches is very annoying. I'm very careful yet the scratches still show up.

Then i did some research and read that this is normal for most resistive touch screens. But it still worries me when it comes time to sell the phone for the n97. N97 will prob have the same problem.

You can also use Nokia maps; one is able to download the maps to a computer and then transfer them to a device, thus negating any need to use data.

One question. When I am charging the phone, there is no led indicator that it's charging. I have to turn the screen on to see the bars moving. Is there any way to enable it? Thanks.
