Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

I agree with you. Where I live there is no E72 and only 3 Blackberrys available and they are all sky high. So I bought the 5800 and am trying to live with it. Turns out I will buy a Blackberry over the net anyway because I need a keyboard.

Ovi Suite can slow down even the fastest PC.Also, it hangs and gives you an error messages.Pc Suite is lighter and faster and basically the same thing as Ovi.To use NSU you dont need any of those programs. It can be installed as a standalone.

I don't know. I'm willing to give the iphone a shot (since I'm not paying for it).

I'm used to Nokia, and the 5800 XM is doing everything I need right now. I'm not expecting to get converted, but it will be fun to try out the iconic iphone. I'm guessing the only thing I will like better about it is the more sensitive finger friendly touchscreen.

Anyway, back to the 5800 XM. Anymore news about an official update to the NAM version (v40)? I would rather not change my product code if I don't have to.

You can do the 3 finger salute. This is always the last ditch attempt and it usually works just about every time. Just keep trying it if it doesn't work on the first attempt. It often takes a few tries. Search the forum cause i forget which 3 buttons are needed for the 5800 three finger salute. But you hold down 3 buttons and then turn on the phone and continue holding the buttons until it kicks you into hard reset mode. Its a little tricky to hold all these buttons and then hitting the power button, but it will work.

You are a whiner. You must not say anything bad about Nokia or its products. Nokia and its fanboys do not care about anything you have to say that could be used to improve future iterations of the product.

In fact Nokia and its fanboys could not give a shiit about your thoughts or suggestions. You must either take it or leave it.

If you can't hang with us Nokia fanboys GET THE **** OUT!!!!!

You have no place here telling us what Nokia could do better.

There is nothing Nokia could do better. That is fact. If you do not have faith then you are a worthless evolution theory believing dog. Nokia created the 5800 on day 6 and it is perfect.

Let me explain this to you. Nokia is our lord and savior. If you have problem with our God, you go to hell and buy Apple phone like all the heathen do. You stupid devil worshiper.

You are a useless whiner and if you don't drink our kool-aid you don't deserve to have it. Don't waste our kool-aid. Just sell it on Ebay so someone else can drink the kool-aid you have no appreciation for.

Your thoughts are not welcome here. You stupid whiner. ;)

Yes, I also just tried the 5800 camera today. Without flash it is one hair above the iPhone camera. Not kidding.

Also remember only N-series phones deserve support. As in the NAM getting a FW update 1.5 years after the Euro. See N95-4 for details. For 5800, after 20 lifetimes you will not get support. As a Nokia fanboy you must believe in reincarnation. That's the only way you might see support for Xpressmusic phones. In one of your reincarnated lifetimes you might see a FW fix for the 5800XM. If you have an N-series then chances are you might see FW update in the same lifetime.

If you don't understand our religion: GET THE **** OUT!!!!!

i'm still undecided on the browsing experience. there seems to be an issue with using my big fat thumb to move around the page. when i use my fingernail its pretty good. and opera mini is pretty good too, except with opera its hard to press some links like a page number of a thread. and opera mini seems to have a bug where the click just doesnt register, no matter what. its very strange because i will sit there for 20 seconds trying to click a link. then out of nowhere the click just works fine after all that hard work.

the regular browser doenst have this problem. but the regular browser does not scroll very well.

i thought i read that the firmware update improved the browser scrolling sensitivity. but i dont know if that was firmware for the euro version or the NAM. i'm so confused and undecided. i'm loving the screen though...but its very mind boggling that nokia lets these issues happen. is it hardware limitation or poor software design?

1. check your message settings. it could just be that it's not set to maximum time or something like that.

2. i haven't tried recording anything yet, so i'll try that. how long were your clips?

Got my wife the Nav Edition for Christmas and so far, she really likes it.

Is there any way to copy all of the contacts from the sim to the phone memory? Right now, she has all her contacts on the SIM. I saw a way to do it one at a time, but not all in one go.

She just registered for Ovi and will try some other apps. I keep rubbing my superior cam and vast amount of storage in her face, but both phones appear to run identical (which they should, since they have the exact same CPU and memory). Kinda hard to get used to the lack of kinetic, though. Is v31 the latest firmware still?

Dang, well hopefully it is an isolated case. You sent yours in already im assuming?

Oh ya also, does anyone know any nice quality reviews (video prefered :) ) that I can check out while I wait for mine to ship, lol.

Wait, wait, wait, there's an ebook reader for Symbian? Last I heard Nook and Kindle were only offered on Android/iPhone/Blackberry. I couldn't even find an epub (standard used by public libraries) reader.

Yeah I scroll everything in the phone by pressing the scroll bar area to get a page up/page down effect.

It is the only effective way of doing it.

I like capacitive screens, but I have some issues with them as well. Mostly when reading books or browsing I may touch the screen without realizing it, and capacitive screens pick that up right away, whereas my 5800 doesn't.

Still, the 5800's sensitivity could stand to be a bit higher. Resistive can be nearly as sensitive as capacitive. In that regard, the gold standard is the HTC Diamond2. I was able to use one, and it works great with fingertips, pretty much no pressure needed.

I just got my new 5800 from Dell yesterday. All is well except: whenever I go to device update and check for firmware updates it says, "create new server profile". When I called Nokia customer care, the guy told me to call up Roadrunner or ATT to get server name, server id, server password, host address, user id. LOL. I never had this problem with my N79 or N78. I suppose I could update via USB on my laptop. But why is this happening and what is the solution. Other than that, the phone seems nice.

Thanks guys. I did try to search first for a solution.

I have firmware version 21.2.025.263.04

Is it worth upgrading?
