Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

For some reason, just today my phone developed a new quirk.

Right below the red button, where the top part (screen, buttons, bezel) meet the lower half of the phone, it now makes a cracking sound when I push on it.

So most times when I push on the red button it makes this annoying sound, unless I take care to push only the button and not the areas near it.

Anybody had a similar issue?

I have no clue what you are saying.

As I have said, there's this line of what looks like greyed out pixels from left to right just. I was trying to describe which part of the screen and it's right on that dialer and contacts icons.

I'll probably bring it to the flagship store when I receive my N97 in the next couple of weeks.

is that the 100kb test? you should try the 1mb test. people have stated that you may only be using only one of the 3g bands without realizing. not sure how you would know which band you are on though.

ram sounds good. hopefully it stays around that though the next coming days. mines been settling at 42.8 mb. been 5 days since flashing to this cfw.

I would try deleting the Maps and Voice data on the phone via map loader, then try just loading maps from map loader on the PC, then try the voice selection again on the phone.
Loading the voice through the map loader might block it somehow.
Maybe a re-install is the only option you have left, I just didn't understand what you had tried.

hey guys, i've been using my 5800 for a while and recently just yesterday I couldnt recieve text unless I restarting my phone by turning it off and on, then I would recieve all the text at once.
i've read a couple things of turning the log off and it would fix the problem however it hasnt worked for me.
does anyone know what should be done?
thanks

i've had the problem before, but it was usually because i was using another brand like motorola and they save it weird or something.

just use opera mini, provides a better browsing experience imo

So I'm really liking my 5800 so far, just one odd thing - when I'm typing in QWERTY mode, every 30 seconds or so, the QWERTY disappears and I can see what's "under" it, as in the screen it came from. It's really distracting, and I wanted to know if this is a known issue with a fix or what.

When you guys speak about T9, you're always implying predictive text right? I'm French so English predictive text is useless to me (and the French dictionary is useless). When using T9, I must press X times per keys to get the wanted letter and if the next letter is on the same key, I must WAIT until the letter "registers".

I guess that must be why you guys are used to T9 whereas I see it as a HUGE PAIN in the butt.

I had to get a new sim card when my work forced me to get an iphone. I'm experiencing two small problems when I pop the sim into my Nokia 5800.

1. The new email icon gets stuck after the first boot up. I usually have to reboot the phone to get the new email icon to go away properly.

2. After checking voice mail and deleting a message, I get some weird text message from 1-000-000-0000, with a bunch of text that doesn't make much sense. I just simply delete the text, but it's annoying. There must be something different with how the iphone 3GS handles voice mail.

I did, but everytime, the flashing goes all the way to the end when it says:
Write result 27: 1701
Processing C:\Documents and Settings\Me\Desktop\7th CFW\RM-356_40.0.005_C01_prd.rofs3.fpsx...
Sending CMT HASH for SOS+ROFS3
Write result 27: 1701
Rebooting...
Finishing CMT session...
Restarting CMT...
Pooling phone...
Phone not found...
Done!

Before it gets to done, a dialog box opens up and says
Phone didn't respond, if the phone is not started yet please wait for the phone to start and connect to usb, then press YES to continue. If phone is not responding press NO.

Then nothing  :befuddled

Way to get defensive.

You stated that when you had tried using flick scrolling you either overshot or had to flick quite a few times.

As I said earlier, you just aren't using it properly.

Flicking too often means you should be flicking harder so that it moves more quickly.

If you are overshooting it, well, you are supposed to stop a flick by simply putting your finger on the screen, so either it is too close and you don't need to flick or you aren't fast enough.

I've had just a few freeze ups (so far) and it's a real booger trying to get the battery out to reset the beyoch, but it seems to be getting easier to do each time. Now to hope it doesn't start popping off on its own!

RE: RAM. I've found that HandyTaskman is worth every penny since I just hold the menu button and it invokes, showing me everything that is currently active. What I've found is this - right after a reboot the following programs are open by default:

Log
Contacts
Messaging
Clock

Selecting "Close All" sent my RAM from 50.5M to 54.4M. I've also found that extensive use without rebooting with nibble at my RAM till, after a day or so, it's down in the range of 45M. Since I use my phone as a modem for my PC, this makes a difference!

I still haven't been able to get my Bluetooth modem to work again on the home PC, so I've been using the USB connection, which seems to actually be faster than Bluetooth in terms of download speeds. Haven't had time yet to check with an online bandwith test.

what double click issue? the phone was designed to have that. it's great when you want to highlight something. what they need to implement more is having sub menus popup when you hold your finger on an item. makes it easier to mark and do things.
