Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

I just did last night, seems to be a lot smoother, are you using v11? and I have 20 megs more memory than before with the same stuff installed, still thinking whether I should try one of the custom firmwares out

So we got #4 and #2 out of the way.

Remainder please?

I wanted to use google maps today, but couldn't. Stupid can't get gps working with it. I had to use telnav. I prefer google because it has higher resolution satellite imagery than telnav in my neckuvdawoods.

i don't believe that is what he's asking. rather he wants to know if he can enter the server addresses required for OTA for the NAM. which i believe is not possible due to us not even having the profile for that in the first place.

I'm just checking in with this thread, glad to see the v40 is released. I had spoken with my Nokia NAM contacts the other day and mentioned it wasn't out yet for NAM, and they seemed surprised, said it should be within a week or so for unbranded.

OK, just got mine yesterday.
I'm digg'n it so far.
Never had a touchscreen before, but I am having no trouble typing with the qwerty keyboard with my fingers.
I use AT&T's 3G for internet, but how can I browse non Wap websites? For example, I got to ESPN.com and it takes me to their mobile version website.

I'm using the stock phnt c6 for 5800 as well. Its way faster than 5800 v51 firmware as far as the accelerometer sensitivity goes, and I generally like it better than the stock firmware. The MAIN reason I went for it in the first place was native SIP - it works great and they should've included it on the 5800 in the first place.

However the battery life is HORRIBLE! I went from charging every 5 days on stock firmware to every other day. I wonder if the c6 firmware has the processor fully clocked all the time or something.

The battery life is so bad that I'm thinking of switching back. The main function of a cell phone is A CELL PHONE, and it can't make an emergency call if the battery is dead all the time.

The wife and I are thinking about switching back to dumb phones with qwerty keypads and getting Ipod touches for everything else now.

eh, different for each person i guess. i hated the e71 when i had it. Everything about it was just...boring. Probably being a 18 year old and having a business phone was the cause lol. I just didnt like the straight forwardness of the e71, didnt have many fun traits to it. Same reason why i left the blackberry. Like roger said, once i got used to what links i have to click twice this phone became alot more funner. Browsing is actually pretty good for me. Alot better than the n95 i had (bigger screen is a def plus). The biggest thing is, which i stress repeatedly, using your finger tips is the best way to go. Accurate and fluid. I paid 280 for mine, i find it the best investment i ever bought at 280.

I'll throw out a tip! The free MIQ application from Best Buy Mobile. I have been using it for a while now and its awesome. Backs up your phone data in push manner to a private online account. You can also go online and easily load contacts or other things to your phone. This is a must have app!

jettie--Yes--I have messed around with quite a few settings, and the battery life debacle. If I leave the phone on 3g, and check email frequently and have several apps running in background AND use for calls, and 2 hrs of music..the phone (at least mine) was dead daily. So...I close all apps all the time..Im about mid-way on the screen brightness, shut off bluetooth, wlan scanning and do not auto check email, lastly, put phone in GSM mode...now Im getting 2.5 days life of calling/talking and music. light web use. If Im going on the web- I change the connectivity to 3g and then change it back..All the above seems to help from daily charging. ..Tom

After playing with the phone for 2 days I think I'm going to return it to Amazon.com and get the e71. I found it to be a bit sluggish and unresponsive at times. Also, the qwerty keyboard is very difficult to use, you have to really concentrate when typing. I hate to compare it to the iphone but I hate that fact that I doesn't correct your mis typed keys, something I feel like all touch screens should have.

I'll give it another few days but I don't think this phone is for me.

Honestly, if you see that an upgrade for your product is ready, and Nokia simply refuse to release it for no apparent reason, and they refuse to communicate with customers regarding this issue, and you are still a happy customer then you are a fool, and a dumb customer to boot.

I can't really imagine many situations where people would be happy to find that somebody else is getting something, but they are not. And laziness+customers who don't give a damn are why Nokia is losing customers.

There is a pretty good reason that Nokia has been losing marketshare. They are still on top of their game when it comes to most of the hardware in phones, but they are sorely lacking and quite pathetic when it comes to software. When people think of smartphones they don't think of specific models or of hardware, they think Android, iPhone, WinMo.

Nokia's inability to manage software properly has been its downfall, and complacent company+complacent customers = loss of market share when better competitors come to market, and they have.

But then ALL of your posts are just 1-liners, and you don't really add much to the forums so I won't bother replying to your stupid comments/simple minded trolling any further.

i got a question about the bulit in gps on 5800xm, how can i get a route direction from point a to point b without using data? i only activated the intergrated gps but it seems like it can't find my position, since i don't have a data plan so i only need a text direction.....
