Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

Yup, an actual "NAM" US product code now.

0592207: 5800 RM-428 NAM Region US Black FREE NAVI V2

I re-flashed with the new code and all seems well. This phone has really improved with all the firmware updates. The browser in v50 with auto-fullscreen and kinetic scrolling is sweet.

Kinda wish the kinetic behavior was consistent, though. On the contacts bar you have to touch and hold briefly before swiping to scroll, and that's how it should be everywhere. But on the icon menus, and in the browser you can just swipe. The problem with that is, when you are just trying to click-launch something, if you move even a pixel while clicking it thinks you want to scroll and doesn't launch.

I find I sometimes have to click on things multiple times to launch them. I'm getting used to it, but it's an un-needed learning curve. If the behavior was consistent with the contacts bar this wouldn't be an issue.

nope it's not there. i also miss from se the recent people u sent texts to and the call log showing all calls (dialed, received and missed) together with different icons instead of the same one.

Please help, can't tether via usb with this phone. I have the Navigation Ed. using ATT. Pc suite connects then disconnects and ovi suite does the same. My e71 used to work just fine.

Is there a way to choose Applications (not a particular application, but the entire folder that shows up in the Menu) as one of the Homescreen shortcuts?

It's a shame that they didn't give this kind of firmware support to the N97 which arguably needed/needs it more. Hopefully they support the N8 and N9 as much as they have with this phone.

anyone flashed their firmware with the C6 that's out? i just did last night. so far it's working pretty good. homescreen works just like the n97/c6 with widgets and everything.

Hold middle key, which brings up the list of icons of open apps. With your finger or stylus, press and hold on the app you want to close. A menu will pop up and you choose exit.

It's wierd. I can't find any google results. Only mentions are about the first firmware update that fixed the intermittent 3G issues. One thing I noticed about the breathing light though, It activates when the phone is in standby. My 6265i has a thin light bar under the screen that blinks every 15 seconds to let you know the phone is on but idle with the screen off.

Correct. I had some emails that were unread and it started to blink twice.

Ok so battery life really sucks on my phone right now. Wondering if others have noticed less than great battery life. I have profimail on, polling for imap as I have on all my past Nokia phones (N85, E71, etc) and starting with a full charge in the am i can only go about 8-9 hours before the battery's nearly dead. The E71 was good for almost 2 days. I assume given the screen size it uses a lot more juice than other models??

I'm assuming you went through and reinstalled everything on the memory card? Maybe you've always done it that way? Aside from what MOST LIKELY is the reason, what's your secret?

I stopped installing stuff on my memory card and started installing EVERYTHING on the phone memory because it seems to make the phones run so much faster. I know it's probably not necessary but that's just how i've been doing it lately.

I WILL say that I've never had a problem with PHONE MEMORY space with any other phone other than this one. It always seems lie S60 5th has poor memory management. I shouldn't have to clear my cache everytime I close my browser just to make space. I wonder if the "Phone Memory Optimizer" that the N97 got will be out for this phone someday.

I did, and thats why I am confused. What I read and understand is that kinetic scrolling is when you flick up to scroll down. The 5800 browser does that, albeit not as efficiently as the iPhone, and I guess thats due to the resistive screen. \So if its already on the 5800, why the discussion? Is it for other lists like the Contacts etc that we are hoping the new firmware will fix?
