Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

Doh! The heat made me slow today. The version I posted was Google maps. I apologize, I don't have the gmail app which sucks btw, the icon comes across as very ugly as well.

Does anyone notice that the phone gets rather got when using mobbler? After 30 mins of playing it gets rather warm, after an hour its a lot hotter. You can feel the heat dissipating through the sides of the phone

There are people that have successfully flashed NAM to Euro FW.
You'll have to search around for what to do.

I dont recommend doing crap like this of course.

Guys, I wanted to share a quick fyi for those that got the amazon video $50 credit in the box. I set up the download program and ran the program. Searched thru the video on demand catalog (on the amazon website)to find a movie I wouldnt mind having and downloaded it. The movie is 90min long and took almost 500mb on my mem card. When I connected the tv out cable, it says "mobile version only..tv out not supported" Bogus !! Well, on the bright side..a movie on 3.2" screen is pretty good. The amazon/nokia 5800 video on demand program is a neat idea. The redeemable $50 credit was easy also. Just sharing !.......Tom :2thumbs:

You can have both Contacts and Shortcuts on the home screen at the same time, but only 3 contacts are visible at once (instead of 4) because the icons are larger now (of course the new Contacts bar can be scrolled through many more contacts now).

App Update has been renamed to SW Update, and there is no Download app any longer.

Both the older Contacts app and Ovi Contacts are included.

So far I'm NOT liking the v40 FW. The new contacts bar SUCKS. It used to only take 2 taps to call my 5 most used contacts. I put 4 on the contacts home screen, and put a "1" in front of the name of the 5th. So it was either tap the contact's icon, then hit the green button, or tap Contacts and then the green button.

Now I only have 3 on the screen, and when I hit the icon and then the green button it makes me choose a number, so that's an extra step. And since only 3 are visible, I have to scroll to get to more for even more steps.

And messaging is even more aggravating...

v31 Contacts Home Screen: Hit the contact's icon and then the message icon to start a new message.

v40 Contacts Home Screen: Hit the contact's icon, then the message icon, then you have to choose between "Message", "Audio message" and "E-Mail" (so I choose message), and then I have to pick a number! ARGHH!!

This pretty much negates the usefulness of the contacts bar since the number of steps is similar to just opening up the contacts app and going from there. I thought I would get used to it, but the more I use it the more it pisses me off. It's really annoying!

Just installed PC Suite, and tethering works like a charm!!
Coming from the WinMo world, it was a pleasant surprise to see this work so smoothly....awesome!

Okay, just updated. Download was 132MB and it went fast (much faster than when I updated to v31). Phone did the usual, screen blanks, then all white screen and disconnect warning from computer, then after a while another white screen that said V 40.2.005, Local Mode, Nokia, then reboot and done.

Software version: V 40.2.005
Software version date: 31-12-09
Custom version: 40.2.005.465.03
Custom version date: 29-01-2010
Language set: 17
Model: 5800 XpressMusic (guess they don't officially call it Navigation Edition)
Type: RM-428

Hard reset and file manager shows 73.7 MB available on C:

Memory info shows:
12 MB Memory in use
74 MB Free memory
411 B Calendar
19 kB Contacts
0 B Messages
0 B Images
0 B Sound files
0 B Video clips
0 B Documents
0 B MIDP applications
737 kB SIS applications
12 MB Other files

Application manager shows:
Client Platform 257 kB
Ovi Store Client 461 kB
Ovi Store Launcher 17 kB

Ovi Maps is not the new v3.03 with free navigation (it's 3.01) :(

Which brings us to SW update (application update) that shows:
Ovi Maps - with free navigation 3.3 - Important (7988 MB)
Nokia Messaging 10.2 (which is NOT selected by default)

Ovi Store won't open, and doesn't prompt for any updates. It just launches to the Ovi Nokia logo screen and sits there with Exit as the only option. As indicated above, there is no Ovi Store update listed in SW Update either. Fortunately I had saved the installer for the latest v1.05(611) Ovi store on my memory card. Installing that version fixed it.

One other thing I've noticed as I use it, is that the screen while nice and big, is too narrow compared to the E71. With the 5800 there is a lot more information on the page, but I find myself scrolling a lot with my eyes because u can't fit that much on each line.

i wanna know what happened to this keypad
