Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

didnt i warn you, i had mine 3 weeks still annoying.
I think the screen size is what makes people go ga ga but to me navigating is a chore compared to e and n series devices even when you learn it.

damn, weird. it's just stuck on that part forever. tried cancelling and restarting and it just does that every time. when i check the connection stats, it shows that it's transferring, but small bytes.

I can scroll and read at the same time, so it's not a problem. And I know how to use kinetic scrolling just fine, thanks. Obviously if the item is on the same page or very nearby, there'd be no point in the 'flick.' For longer distances, the 'flick' is equally useless. It's only marginally useful for intermediate distances, at least in my experience.

Just because kinetic scrolling works for you doesn't mean I'm doing it wrong, it just means we have differing opinions on what works the best for us.

If it's 2 days old, send it back to the seller, it was defective when you got it and they should replace it as soon as you do, with no waiting for Nokia to potentially send you a refurb or not fix it.

v40 now shows two RM-428 product codes in NaviFirm.

0591814: 5800 RM-428 NAM Region US Sangalo Black NAVI
0577305: 5800 RM-428 TIM Brasil BR Silver Black V3_COLOR

So it looks like Nokia is working on getting more RM-428 phones covered.

Still nothing via FOTA for either the NAM RM-428 Navi (0581914) or XM (0577454). :(
Also tried the other NAM code (0592207) and the "NA" code (0574994) and got nada. :(

Also, I can't get the new email notification to go away on mail for exchange.. any ideas? I don't want to have to read 39 messages and have no unread messages for that to go away. Also - LOVE having a stylus. Web browsing is superb on this device to the n95.

Nevermind - I had a new email come through while I was checking the others and it blended in... One other thing, has anyone noticed the speakers are not that loud? My n95 is considerably louder.

I don't agree. I did change my product code, but I can well understand that others don't want to. As you say, look at those iPhone owners who jail-broke their phone and are having all sorts of problems now (e.g. not getting notifications). Changing the product code as being discussed here is safe, but it is hard for people to know that and not the sort of thing that you should have to do.

On the other hand, let's not act like Nokia is forcing you to change your product code (yet). I don't think it is so strange that they are staggering the release of this firmware update. Maybe they encountered some problems when they released it to the first batch of phones? It's only been a couple of weeks.

The real culprit here is Rogers - they put a badly customized version of an early Nokia firmware on their phones and haven't updated it yet. If Nokia is at fault here it is for allowing Rogers to mess up their phones.

Okay, that was weird. I finally found a FOTA update using the built-in function. This was for my RM-428 5800 Navigation Edition. I thought, cool, let's do it! Wow, so much faster and easier than using NSU (which I have always had to use in the past because my phone NEVER found any FOTA updates when it checked).

Only problem was, when it rebooted it was the XM version of the firmware, not the Navi version (Waves default theme). Hmmm... could it be my product code? Nope, checked it and it was the proper PC for the phone. So then I tried NSU and a re-flash and got the correct 5800 Navigation Edition firmware.

I wonder why FOTA gave me the wrong one? Yea, I know it's mainly a cosmetic difference (the default theme). Still seems odd, though.

ok thanks. one more question (feel like such a noob!), but i have been having HORRENDOUS problems with the built in web browser. it literally crashes every single time. i cant get past a google search. it just locks up no matter which site i go to. is this common? should i update the firmware? its very frustrating...

oh and the wifi refuses to stay connected. i connect, and a few seconds later the icon is suddenly gone. so i go connect again, load up a web page, then brower freezes. then wifi is gone. wtf?

i dunno. there's an omnia HD video on youtube loading mobile-review and my 5800 matches it stride for stride. there's really zero difference hardware-wise between the 5800 and the Nseries models at this point. same RAM, CPU, etc.
