Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

I'm running the latest jjdoctor rm-428 c6 CFW from the pnht site. It may not be perfect but its a hell of a lot better than stock 5800 v51, and has kept me from buying a new phone for a little longer :)

I'm wondering if nokia will fix the double click issue in a new version, for example that new touch phone coming out with kinetic scrolling.

Anyway i appreciate the green call to send function cause 99% of my texting is one click reply from a previous text, then start typing, then press green send key. Its relatively simple with the green hard key. And i really like the reply shortcut key on the bottom when viewing your inbox, this wasn't available on dpad phones.

Even better is the text shortcut in your call log. This did not exist either. Highlight a recent call and click the text icon at the bottom. Right to a text reply. Some nice thought out things that make things very efficient for certain tasks. Its a nice touch.

Here's another really useful tip. Say you're opening google in the browser and you want to search. When you type your search word, rather than press the ok check mark and then pressing search, just add a return key at the end of your word (press zero 3 times), and this automatically runs your google search for you! Try it out it really works!

i only got the one with "English (us)" that's it, when i connected my phone with ovi suite it will show up the english with street name for me to download, but after i downloaded it just won't show up on the voice guidance section, it's so weird. do you think i should uninstall everything and reinstall to see what happens? thanks for your help anyways.

Is it something like the lines on my homescreen??

Cause sometimes I notice these lines and sometimes I swear they are not there. They go away when I am in different programs though. Are your blanked out lines always blanked out??

Your Ovi Maps says street names? How do you turn that on? Mine only says "turn left in 400 yards", "turn left now", but no street names. What voice are you using?

Guys, I bit the bullet and changed the NAM product code to update to v40....No issue at all. Even the data preservation held up..no issue with any app previous to v31. I say the new homescreen and scrolling is worth it.

Hi, I have a NAM, RM-428, product code 577454, currently running v40.2. I am trying to find a way to change it so that I can read(or input?) traditional chinese. Can anyone help me?

from googling I found that people have successfully changed their product code to a HK version and then somehow cut and paste the language pack in the firmware so they get the chinese support, but I also saw people saying that this does not work for v40. and unfortunately it's not possible to downgrading to an earlier firmware either.

can anyone help please?

Pachi,
What do you mean by slow CPU? My 5800 is just as fast as the iPhone 3GS that I have through my work. I will admit that the iPhone screen is smoother and more finger friendly. I have compared the two phones side by side doing similar operations.

I haven't removed the battery cover yet, which I am glad for since it was a ***** to put on :). I have had some programs crash like the AP widget which also took forever to load, so I removed it. I also noticed some slowed operations when I used another theme but overall it has been really solid for the 3 weeks I have used it. Even the camera is not that bad if you use it under light conditions. I have had one dropped call but I don't know if it was the phone or the network. Coming from 3 previous E series phones I also think this phone nicely built as well. MFE works great I just wish it could do html, I also run Seven which is decent.

Yea, I also verified that by looking at the meta data from some photos I took with my 5800. It confirms that the lens is 3.7mm f/2.8. I stand corrected.

So the new mystery model will have a 12% longer focal length than our model, and no stylus? I wonder what those odd changes will accomplish? Maybe the camera is an improved model that doesn't suck? :p And maybe the marketing department decided the stylus was too misunderstood (the fact that the 5800 has a stylus is often criticized) and just decided to remove it? :disappoin

Interesting thoughts. Doesn't really explain the lack of stylus and longer lens (not sure those could be categorized as improvements), but I suppose a T-mobile compatible, or maybe even carrier branded and subsidized model is a possibility. Considering the huge popularity of this phone, if T-Mobile does get a branded, subsidized version it could be a real kick in the nuts to AT&T.

Alright, keep 'em coming gang. Anyone else have any thoughts on this new 5800i mystery model.

I need some help, did a search but couldn't find answer. My 5800 does some funky screen transitions when scrolling through the menus. It looks like slide effects in a powerpoint presentation ie: fade left/right. How do i turn off and just go through menus w/o the slide effects? Thanks in advance
